Gravel in tail gate gap?

Any suggestions solving the problem of small rocks stuck in the gap at the bottom of tailgate making it difficult to open and close?
Also the handles to open gate are too small and I have to use a rock to open the driver side handle?
At present I am driving with tail gate down while hauling gravel..

Reduces the Volume of gravel getting into the gap and the best part no more shoveling the gravel off the truck.

Maybe some heavy belting or some 1/8" poly laid over the gap bolted down on the box side, when you close the gate the heavy belting or poly will bend up the gate and when you put it down it should lay flat again.

That's easy. Get a tailgate gap cover. Google the phrase "tailgate gap cover" for many links. I've used one for five years now on my f150 and am happy with it. My cover uses self tapping screws to hold it in place and I notice that a lot of designs use glue!

Comments a caleba's site for a glue on model range from works great to don't waste your money.

I don't have a gravel problem but when I slid chairs and the like forwards and a leg would drop in the gap, it would drive me up a wall.
