I was just wondering how everyone's grass is growing? Here it is August in Ohio and my grass is as green and lush as back in the spring. I guess with all this humidity and warm nights and all the rain it's just in overdrive!:D
The Cub is getting it's work out this season and the oil guys are getting rich off the extra cash I spend on gas:eek:
I mowed part of my yard on Wednesday and finished the rest today (thursday) and what i cut on Wed. has grown at least an inch!!!!
Ah well, more quality time with the Cub!!!!!:D

I live in the south east and our lawns are burning in my particular area.

Located in Western NY.
Last year from May 15 through Sept 30, I put about 34 hours on my mowers.
This year from May 15 through August 3, I have put 51 hours on my mowers. As I write this, I have about 3 hours of mowing awaiting me tonight after work.

Same here in Kansas... I have areas that I have not mowed in over 6 weeks, and while they need it, it's not unsightly...

We live in southern Illinois near St.louis. What is rain? Not a word that is used here. We are 9 inches below normal and none is sight. Weird weather the last few years.

It's a little better than that up here in Belvidere, IL by Rockford. Last year we were in your boat. Just about zero rain all summer.

This year has been fairly dry (and hot) but the grass isn't totally fried (yet). The corn and soybean crops look great, tho!

With all the heat and then rain, I have held off cutting the lawn until yesterday. Then I had to go take care of a unexpected request yesterday. Lawn is way beyond the normal height that I let it get. Looks like I will have to cut it twice today to make it look good. Like you more seat time.:D

I see that some members are stating that their grass is growing fast with all of the rain we have had in Ohio. Well, if your yard is untreated, crabgrass is starting to show in yards around where I live in northeastern Ohio. It is lime green in color, and very thick in texture. Some of my neighbors yards are completly infested with crabgrass. Crabgrass looks like grass, but it is a annual weed that spreads like wildfire in your grass if untreated.

I know what you are saying about the crabgrass! I don't treat mine because my yard is just too big. The Cub cuts it just fine.
I hope where it has been very dry that you get some rain soon!

Here in Fort Wayne Indiana the grass is greener this time of year than I ever remember seeing it. Still mowing weekly, glad I got the Z-Force this spring.

Here too, WNY... just cut it tonight and glad I did. Haven't used the sprinklers much as we are either getting rain or humid conditions. I'm cutting twice a week but its dark green and lush... lovin' it.

I hope you all get rain soon where it has been so dry. I have been mowing about twice a week! Yikes! I like the seat time but this $3.15per gallon gas is killing me!!!!

Yes here in western New York grass grows well, and usually stays green spring through fall with little burnout. We have about a quarter acre section in the back we used to call the, "back 40," as it was just rough grass and weeds. I dethatched and fertilized it this spring, and it already looks like a golf course now. Weekly mowings are a must to keep it under control. Never thought much about it before, but now one has to actually include lawn mower gas as part of the household budget!

All of the grass seed and work I put in this spring was for nothing, my yard is burnt up!! The weeds keep growing though, I don't know where they get their water from. Very Dry here in NE Kansas. I drove this past week to Omaha, NE and things looked much greener and the crops looked better than in my area.

My grass is finally starting to slow down here in Millersburg, Ohio. I have some parts of my yard browning out now. The weeds are doing well but they are looking thirsty too!

Y'all don't know grass!
Try Bermuda and 95-100 degree days. I HAVE to cut 3 times a week just to keep up. By "keep up" I mean so you can actually cut the grass and not 'keep it good looking'. This is mere survival. If your tractor goes down it is one sumbitch to get caught up. YOu have to cut during the day because that is the only dry time there is in the humid South. Yeah, it's hot.
I swear if you let Bermuda go it would branch out and cover your whole house in a year's time :)

But the nice thing about Bermuda is the fact it goes dormant in the Fall, turns tan and stays one height all Winter. No cutting in the late Fall, Winter or early Spring. It simply does not grow. Your lawn looks manicured all Winter long.

I'd say 99% of people cut during the day -- cutting at night is much more difficult.
