Very nice to say the least. How long did it take you and whats your lift Cap?

Thanks for the compliment! It didn't take too long really. Designing it took longer than anything. Once that was done It took about thirty hours mostly because it was the first one.

2600 lift capacity.

Very nice job. Waht is lift cap.and how long did it take you to build it?

Enterprise I had answered you previously, maybe I did something wrong?? Anyway, it took about 30 hrs not counting design work. The lift capacity of tractor is 2600lbs.

Chisum, you sir, have some seriously wicked fabbing skills! That grapple is an industrial work of art. Enjoy trying to beat the cr@p out of it!

You have a hundred thousand dollar water jet cutter in your garage at home?

Thanks, I have a Water Jet Machine. Makes things considerably easier on projects like this.

Very, very nice. I would be afraid to scratch it. What thickness are the upper and lower tines? Also, the sheet steel on the lids? Interesting looking hinges.

Thanks for the compliment. The tines are 3/8" on the upper and lower. Made the hinges using 1" hard alloy dowel pins and enclosed them with 1/4" plate and Grease Cert in the middle. Seems to work flawlessly. Picked up thirty foot trees from the end with one lid and didn't have any problems.

The metal on lid is 10 gauge.

Great job. I do not have your skills or the time. First attachment I bought for my ASV RC100 skid steer and I could not live without it! Had to put some guarding on the hydraulic hoses because I was a little rougher on the machine being a newbie but my gosh there is very little you cannot do with that attachment. You are the man!

View attachment 348417Built this Grapple for my tractor. Can do so much more than ever imagined. What do you think? View attachment 348414View attachment 348415View attachment 348416

Nice build. Couple of questions: Why did you use a solid back plate? Doesn't that interfere with seeing where your tine tips are when pointed down at an object? Also, why did you use what appears to be 2x2 square tube for the frame? Most grapples are built on 4x4 or similar square tube.

Thanks, It hasnt looked anything like it did since two days after completion. I have used it more than I ever thought I could. Nothing it cant do, "So Far". I thought about the guarding and have watched it pretty close when using it. I built the lid covers the way I did in hopes it would protect the hoses and cylinder. So far its done its job.

Thanks! The solid back plate which I think you are referring is the quick connect for my tractor. The Tractor quick connect is also solid so it has no effect on being able to see. I would assume that the ones you are comparing are for lower weight. The 2" square tubing is plenty strong the way I built the grapple. Notice I have eight inside tines, two outside tines, the uprights are the same. This give me 3 1/4" spacing on the bottom 2" SQ tubing on the connection points. On most I have seen they are spaced 7 to 9 inches. My uprights and tines are two different pieces. All in the way its built. Bigger is not always better. Note: the backing plate is also welded to the uprights. When designing this, I had my tractor in mind which has 45 horsepower and 2600lb lift capacity. I don't think my tractor could hurt this on its best day.
