Grapple styles?

I can't see the downside of a long bottom twin lid type rake - grapple other than the possible weight concern with a smaller carrier.
Twin lids gets my vote for either style for clamping ability and by it's design there's more support and strength (for the lids) having double the support at the frame. 👍

My grapple doesn't have the long arm under the grapple. When I was looking, I thought that style would be good for picking stuff up, kind of like pallet forks.

But then I thought that my main goal was picking things up, and not having all that metal sticking out of the bottom would be better for picking up logs, stumps and small branches. I can rake up a pile, clamp it down, and haul it off. For bigger, heavier logs, I get right up to it, sort of tile the grapple to get under it, then clamp it down.

While driving to where I want do dump it, I have the grapple curled so all the weight is on the grapple, and the twin lids are just holding it in place.

To me, having more metal sticking out from the bottom of the grapple would get in the way.

I bought mine well over 20 years ago and up until that point I had never seen anything like it. It was a costly learning "trip" getting there starting with a 4 in 1 bucket, then on to what is generally known as a scrap/ demolishion bucket that was basically a full solid bottom bucket with 2 grapple lids. It had zero visibility and grabbed too much dirt hindering burning. I don't own either of those anymore.
