I started bulding a grapple for my loader bucket. I have things tacked together and tryed to figure out where and how to put a cylinder on it. After too much thought, I do not have enogh room for a cylinder with out getting in the way. My bucket is QT skid steer type. Since I use it agast houses and buildings alot I really can't have any thing over hang the top of the bucket. I think I will srcap this one and build a bucket /grapple combo like some others have done. I have a lot of brahes and rocks to clean up, so this type would be better for the uses I have in store for it.
Pics of the mistake.

Would it be better to use 1" cold rolled square for the bottom teeth or use 3/8" plate on edge. This way I can put cylinders on the out side of the loader frame so I can unhook it easy.
What about tine spaceing? 6" too close?
Thanks for any comments.

I think your grapple could be saved I see alot of room for a center mounted hydrauild cylinder you might have to use and arc on the mount to get it up over your quick tach on the back of the bucket or you could even go with a trunion mounted cylinder.

Can you hang a cylinder on the rear of the bucket? Maybe weld a bar just forward of the hinge pins and run some tube back for the piston. Weld a clevis on the bottom of the bucket.I guess if you HAD to scrap it....paint it purdy and give the wife a nice firewood rack.My wife has a 300lb toilet paper holder,200lb skillet rack and 3 ton rose trellis /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Dana

I am sure you have looked at other post on grapples. Just incase you missed it here is a link to some grapple projects. MossRoad has some drawings that show how he wanted to hook up his cylinder. It is linked within the thread above.
Since I retiring next week one of my projects will be to put a different cylinder mounting on the one I built. I will be interested in how you cylinder will be mounted.

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif good thinking, just how did you come up with a 300 lb toilet paper holder!? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif hahaha

anyhow I was thinking it was saveable too, using an arched cylinder mount off of a lever atached @/near the piviot point as well.... a bit of expermineting but all is not LOST yet;) there is always that fire wood holder stove or no stove! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The toilet paper holder started out as a log splitter but the stroke turned out to be a bit short to be effective. While it wouldn't split some logs, the stroke was just about right for "wipin'". I use an O/A torch to burn off the used paper. The only real problem I have is when the tractor stalls and I gotta go running round backside of the house to restart it!! I can't run with m'drawers down round m'ankles,ya see.Runnin' a '51 Gravely Model L for the pump and ya gotta be real careful when that pull strap comes offa the pulley...don't wanna get caught with your pants down...if ya know what I mean /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
The next project starts today. On the Fourth of July, the wife put a fireworks mortor down the tube upside down (true story) and blew a hole clean through the top of my pot bellied stove!! Fixin' ta weld it on to a dolly so I can wheel it around. Porta-Potty-Belly /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Reckon I outta weld that ash gate shut...just got m' shoes for this year....

That one is possible but, The pin point would be taller that the bucket. So when the bucket in back drag in the side of a house the bracket would hit the house easy. I Have to keep the top of the bucket stock as possible.
I really hate to add any more weight to my HD bucket, it is heavy enough. That is why I am thinking about a diffrent type grapple.

Ron,

Where did that link go? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

it could be made lighter wieght and still have a lower profile Ill have to do some more lookng. I have to same problem on my older TLB but im overcoming it for now just if my fork hooks will work with it. You could make it all bolt onto your machines bucket so it wont be in the way all the time thats how I may do mine till I can build another bucket.

OK I re did it. I found a used 5' bob cat bucket with teeth that does have a even bow in it. $250 for the bucket, so the QT works on my GB loader. I cut all the tacks off the good bucket and went back to the welder.

I did save the grapple. I change some lenths because the bob cat bucket is alittle deeper, which is real nice.
