Grand L3X30 Questions ???

I checked with another Kubota dealer today, who is also a JD dealer. He said he was almost positive the mid-PTO on the Grand L3X30 tractors is similar to the JD 4X10 mid and large chassis tractors. That is, the mid-PTO requires the rear-PTO to be engaged.

The problem is these dealers rarely install a mid-PTO on the L3X30 tractors and there are never any on the lot with mid-PTO to test this theory on.

By the way, I was able to test the brake steering with the cruise control lever and I thought it worked well, at least well enough for as much as I will need it.

I was really impressed with the cruise control lever as opposed to electronic buttons. It allowed for "on-the-fly" adjustments and also allowed for creeper-like speeds.

As a side note, I also tried a new (less than 1 hour) JD 4310 while I was there and the electronic cruise control was not working and the Onboard Electronic Diagnostic System light was blinking. I don't mention this to imply anything bad about JD tractors as a whole but it did not help with my concern regarding the electronics on this machine.

The dealer did have some interesting comments about the turf tires and the MMM. He said he was fairly certain that the MMM could only be used with the turf tires. I have attached a picture out of the catalog that someone made reference to earlier. It shows a MMM being used with turf tires.

He also said that they need to modify the shields on the front axle when using turf tires on the L3X30. He said that the turf tires rub against the shield. Actually, if you look on page 14 of the Grand L catalog, you can see where the tires have been rubbing on the shields. He said that they need to cut the shields back to make it work.

In regards to the MMM, he said that they have had issues with the MMM on L3X30 tractors with a loader installed. He said that the flat reinforcing bar that connects the loader frame to the rear of the machine, needs to be cut to fit. He said that the MMM can not raise fully into a locked position without making this modification. He said that Kubota told them they never tested this scenario and they would need to cut the large notch into the flat bar.

Anyone else have these sorts of experiences?

Here is the page 14 picture in the Grand L catalog. It shows a L3430 with turf tires and MMM framework. I have highlighted the shields where it looks like the paint has worn off due to rubbing.

Here is a picture of the front axle with shields out of the catalog. The dealer was saying that they need to cut the shields as outlined in blue. Take note that the right shield is installed incorrectly for the catalog picture ... oops. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Here is a picture of a Grand L tractor with the loader framework. I have highlighted the dealer proposed cut-out in blue. This seems like a significant modification for a MMM. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyone else have any experience with this issue or have they fixed it since?

I could definitely see where the MMM could only be installed with the turf tires. In this picture you can see there seems to be a significant size difference between the turfs and the R4s. The turf tires seem to be much smaller in this case. I guess the rear R4s might actually hit or rub on the MMM or is the problem with the front tires or both???

I happen to be a Kubota guy but I must say that offering a MMM option and not testing the fit with turfs or loader is a bit weak. I don't believe I would be happy with the loader support bracket cut to allow the mower to work. The front shields I might could live with. In this case I would look at different brands if I was set on a MMM.

"Anyone else have these sorts of experiences"

regarding cutting a notch in the rear loader support. I would be curious if others have had to do it. Realize the L30's that accept the MMM use a different mower then the L10 models. Could there be a difference here that the dealer is not familiar with?

I was mentioning that I don't know how you could make a cruise control any simplier or easier to operate.

Next time your at the dealer ask to see the owners manual p. 47 tells you how the pto operates. I do have turf tires I think you might be talking about the over grown turf tires that do not work with MMM. Yes the MMM does not raise up to the hole for pinning it in the locked postion about a half of hole off, just have to put a bar under front of mower and lift a little to get the pin in, not the best design but it is a tractor.

Poco,

Thanks for the manual info. I will definitely ask to read it the next time I'm at a Kubota dealer.

The dealer said they were the standard turf tires that come as an option on the L3X30. It was not the galaxy tires. Do you find that the inside of your front tires rub on the shields when you take sharp turns or did they remove these shields on your machine?

In regards to the hole for pinning, would their fix that I have described remedy the problem you are experiencing? I should mention that I don't think they had to make a large cut since they did it with a grinder. They probably took about 1/2" off or so from what he made it sound like.

On another note, I saw an L3130 with Galaxy tires and a LA723 loader. I asked the mechanic about it because I have always heard the galaxy's were not rated for loader use. He said that Galaxy has stated otherwise and it is now allowing for loader use, at least on this set.

We have an L4610 equiped with what I call "Super Turfs" These are not same tire as the Galaxy Turf, but I believe they are the same size.

The rear tires have a deeper lug,a little over 1",they will still get a good bite, but are wide enough the distribute the tractors weight better than a standard size Turf Tire.

The rears are a Firestone 6-ply,"Turf & Field" 21.5 x 16.1

The fronts tires are a Goodyear 29 x 12.50-NHS. The front axle on the new L-Series is "similar" to the axle on our 4610,but the shields do appear to be a different.

I've never had a problem with the front tires making contact with the shields...See attachments...Good luck on your tractor buying experience...I have researched more on a tractor purchase than I have when buying a house /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
