Grand L series cruise?

I forgot to test the cruise control in my recent ride on an L4740. Is
there a "resume" function? Separate on-off switch, or is that also
handled by the lever?

There is no RESUME BUTTON.
All operated by the lever on your left.

Correct, it not really cruise control. It stays at whatever setting you choose and is completley manual in operation. Think of it as the foot pedal without auto return to neutral.

So, how is it set when you turn the tractor on (and off)? I saw the lever
and the only thing I can think of is you have to move the lever back to
0 to slow down and stop first, then move it up the next time you get up
to the ground speed you want to go. Correct?

Unfortunately, the JD 4720 did not have the CC option on it when I saw it,
so I do not know how that works to compare.

If you hit the brake, the cruise control is disabled. To "resume" you move lever back to zero, then back to where you want it.

Also, the cruise control is really a transmission setting, not a throttle setting. It works fine, but doesn't control the ground speed up and down hills perfectly.

That is pretty much it. Anytime it is interupted you return the lever to zero and reengage the control.

Thx for all the helpful responses, guys. It certainly is not obvious
how it works and the dealer rep was no help. You don't get to see an
owner's manual in a test drive.
