Gotta Ask--Tuner

As long as the tune is in the truck then you will be on your own and have no GM factory warranty. I'd find out what tune it is and who installed it then have it removed and put back to stock. Some Chevy dealers may even refuse to work on it with a non factory tune.

That's my concern. I'd never mess with a 65-70k new truck like that--Some do, I guess

They are asking $53k for that one that you are skeptical about.

What about this one:https://www.yourhometownchevy.com/new/Chevrolet/2019-Chevrolet-Silverado+2500HD-5fea59ce0a0e0aea71497ba77d4e221a.htm

It is a 2019 2500HD LTZ Duramax. They are asking $55k for it. Wish they were having those kind of incentives when I bought mine, I would have bought new. I couldn't get any body to move more than a couple grand.

Wow!! Best discounts around here are 4-6k. I have a mental block at 60+. Can't do it. Wife calls me cheap.

You could drive a few hours and have a new truck for the same price. I'm sure Jeremy (the store manager) would negotiate on that price as well. Probably not a ton, but maybe a little.

When I was looking and bought my truck. I was also looking at 2013 3500HD w/ Duramax. It had 63k miles. It was 36k and I got them down to 34k. It had a cracked headlight mount, after market grill (that was also cracked), and a rust spot on the fender and rust running down the passenger door. It also needed tires. It also only had a limited 30 day warranty. So by the time I figured everything it needed, I was about $41k for it. I figured for $5k, I would go 4 years newer, 50k less miles, and get factory warranty.

Kinda my thought process too. :drink:

Not close enough with any dealers to get away with a tuner but I feel the same way about gassers vs diesels...Seen people get pummeled in all brands when injectors etc go south. Stupid money. The 10k premium up front is stupid money too, unless you just gotta have it. No disrespect to the diesel lovers. I've had them and love them but the new stuff is a little scary.

Its all scary when/if you rely on someone else to do the repair work and pay too much attention to popular opinion. A set of standard injectors for a 6.6 run about 1300, a set of igniters for a 6.0 run about 1200. Seems like a fair share of the bad news stuff can be traced back to BS because somebody was running beyond factory specs and got POd when the motor or tranny went south on them. (Ford 6.0, dodge trannies, Chevy 6.5, etc)

There's truth to that, I know people who tried to get 700hp with aggressive tuners and other mods only to cost them dearly later...I also know people who left their trucks stock and still had problems before their time--Not everyone, but enough for me to take note. I do most of my own work and yeah, 1300 isn't necessarily horrible but it better happen around 300k on the clock, not 125-150.

I would avoid it - even if they remove the tuner it leaves a mark on the ECM. When the GM dealer connects it will show and powertrain will be voided.

Keep looking, with the new HD on the way there should be some decent rebates on the current trucks.

Lightly looking at a 2017 Chevy LTZ 2500 Duramax. Since it has aftermarket tail lights (why?) and some other stuff, I asked if it had a tuner. Dealer (honestly) said yes for MPG (What all people say)...Anyway..It has 21k on it and I certainly don't want to have a voided 100k warranty due to it having been tuned .

I think the warranty is shot--Opinions?

They are asking market for it, so no great deal although there might be some room on it--The truck is mint though. Thinking I should look elsewhere--Not sure I even need/want a diesel anyway since the 6.0 and the 6.6 have similar towing capacity and that's really what I'm after.

Again, with the 2017 L5P, the "tuner" is inline after the ECM. Zero foot print to the ECM as it isn't actually touching it like traditionally done in the past. Doesn't mean I wouldn't keep looking for something - like the ones I posted above.

Thanks for all of the feedback--I passed on that truck--Too many unknowns beyond the tuner..Fuel tank in the bed, aftermarket tail lights etc. Nice looking truck, no visible damage or signs of abuse but too risky in my opinion.
