Got my new EA Box Blade

It was a long wait, but I think it was worth it! I ordered my XTreme Duty 78" box blade from Everything Attachments on 4/16/19. At the time, I understood the wait time for the build and shipment would be 8 weeks or more. I had watched the video on the EA website about how they were made, and I was convinced that the EA box blade was of superior quality.

I had considered buying a 6 ft County Line box blade that was in stock at my local Tractor Supply. It was about 2/3 of EA's price, but it was definitely not as well built.

Also, I had looked at some EA attachments that my son's neighbor has. (Rear Blade, Grapple, Land Plane) They were all good.

My EA box blade was shipped out on July 3. Based on the tracking, the freight company gave it some extra miles up and down the eastern states before it finally got to the destination terminal in Lewiston, Maine. (I don't know if they really shipped it around so much or if the tracking data was screwed up.) I had inquired with the freight company and was just starting to look into how I could escalate my inquiry when I got the email on 7/10 that it was at the destination terminal. I had another commitment that day, so I picked it up on 7/11.

My first box blade learning project was to regrade the parking area beside my garden shed. I originally made this last fall with some "recycled" sandy gravel that I had a contractor take out when reworking my driveway and main parking area. I had spread and leveled it with my loader, but I had left it too high in the center and too low next to the shed. This material stays a bit loose and I found that I had to be careful not to set the angle of the box blade for a too aggressive cut. I experimented with the teeth a bit. There were a few rocks in this stuff and the teeth brought them up. If you want the rocks to stay buried, don't use the teeth!

The second project was a bit of correcting on my driveway and parking area. My contractor had left the edge low on the side next to the lawn. (It was low before, he just didn't build it up enough to suit me.) There were a couple of minor bumps and dips about halfway up the 300 ft drive that he didn't get smoothed out enough, in my opinion. Meanwhile, he had put in extra material alongside the garage, building it up more than I wanted for drainage.

Using the box blade, with the teeth down, I was able to scrape up stone from the high area, then transport it with my bucket to the areas that needed more. I will probably have another session or two before I am totally satisfied, but I made a big improvement so far:

I have a rough tractor road out back of my place. I have added some of that recycled sandy gravel to the worst areas, but don't have enough on hand to really do it right. So far, I've only taken one "dragging" pass on that with the box blade. I may show a pic or two of that later, but it is not as pretty.

I also have a rough, formerly wooded, area that we are taming. That one was very wet this spring and early summer. It is just now getting dry enough that I might try to work it a little.

This coming Sunday, I am planning to box blade my daughter's long driveway. She has a new TYM tractor. I'll trailer my box blade to her place and we'll use her tractor to pull it. Should be fun!

I have the same EA box blade. It is a great tool.
Do yourself a huge favor and get a hydraulic top link with restrictors in it. It makes on the fly adjustments precise and easy to make the blade do exactly what you want. It only takes very small adjustments to make a big impact on how it cuts or spreads materials. My land is very flat, so I haven’t bothered with a hydraulic side link yet, but I can see where it would be nice if one is working on unlevel ground.

On Sunday, 7/21, I hauled my box blade to my daughter's place. I hooked it up to her new TYM 494. It was a hot day and I gave her air-conditioned cab a good test. NICE! :cool2:

I had made about five passes with the teeth down, and had made one pass with the teeth up, when the sky opened up and we had a downpour. The cab was nice again!:dance1: I didn't have to run to the house. I waited out the storm in the tractor.

After the rain, I lengthened the top link more and made another pass. It was really too wet at that point and it was time for lunch anyway. After a leisurely lunch, the water had soaked in/dried up a bit and I finished with a couple more dragging passes. I then made a few rolling passes with my pickup and trailer.

Before the shower, the ground was very dry. The shower was helpful, though it was a bit too much, too fast. I am inserting a pic below to show how it came out.
