2005 BX23
Well the dealer brought my BX23 saturday morning.
I didn't waste any time getting it in the dirt. Boy do I have a lot to learn about operating a backhoe. here is a pic with my daughter on the seat and me behind her. You can see that I had to buy a kubota to go with her hair /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I din't waste any time doing some mods to my new tractor.
I looked in several place but could not come up with bucket hooks so I modified a standard hook. That's chevy engine orange btw.

Saturday while driving through the field I got some weeds wrapped around the power shaft that goes from the engine to the trans. That along with the stories about busted cases and broken fans made me decide to make a skid plate. It goes from the front of the mower deck lift arms underneath the trans case and under the two front nuts for the hitch.

Thanks everyone for all the great information. With all your help I think I made the right decision.

Welcome to the Kubota club! I'm sure you will enjoy it. I know I do mine. I like the idea of the skid plate, but then I would have
trouble putting on the mid mount mower if I did. Be careful about letting your wife learn to drive the tractor; she may want to take it away from you. Better to tell her that it's much too complicated to explain, dear!

Look'n good. I like that skid plate.
Since I use mine primarily for finish mowing I haven't had the need for a skid plate but one never knows what the future holds /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I've been seriously considering a career change which would be involving the BX23 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A nice shiney BX23 & a pretty daughter, again look'n good /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow, nice lawn! You actually let the tractor touch it? Congratulations on the new BX. You will really enjoy it.

BERNIE,
I got 2 daughters, one about her age,im guessing 7? I let the 7 year old set on my lap,and run the hoe,she loves it!T MY 9 year old i let drive the tractor a little moving snow with the felwith me walking along side [low gear, low throttle]with the controls at hands reach.shes rather good at it.Both girls ride adult atvs and adult snow mobiles also on their own, under close supervision.Sure their arefolks out there who say this is awful, and they will surely get hurt, and the sky is falling and so on and so on.MY kids have been taught from day 1 to respect machines and the dos and donts and are closely supervised.I was driving hay trucks at 10,running chainsaws and working steers in the woods at 15.We didnt have seat belts in cars or carseats,we either rode on dads lap while driving,or took turns riding in the rear window of the car or in the back of the truck.
my point of all this, teach her not to come near the rig while your running it,but let her use it a little..they gotta start sometime, but use close supervision of course.NICE TRACTOR,CUTE KID

Nice, but where did you find the mud, don't look like to much in that nice yard. If its like mine, that must me the front yard, and the muds in the back.

I got my new BX 23 on Saturday also, 5 hrs and counting the days till I get back home. On the road again for two more weeks. Any way, the rain held off until around 4pm where I live, and even after raining all night, still played a little after church, just a few minutes, and found the ground only wet down to 3 to 4 inches, dry after that, as I dug a six foot hole just for the fun of it. Seams we had been in kinda of a dry spell for three or four weeks, of course the weekend I get home to my new tractor, I bring the much needed rain, everybody thank me now /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Any way enjoy, and keep it safe. An just think our tractors have the same delivery date. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow thanks for all the comments.
If I knew how these forum things worked I might be able to quote from each of you and in pretty colors too. I will try and reply to each here.

My wife just figures its a guy thing and lets me do the tractor stuff.
I do keep asking her when my daughter Becky will be old enough to mow the yard /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a Dixon zero turn mower already so I didn't get the deck so thats not a problem. I have daydreamed about the odd job with the BX to make a little diesel money but at my current skill level it would be a "Very" odd job.

That lawn is not that good. Especially since it sits right next to the neighbors that looks like a golf course green.

The mud IS back behind the barn in the woods. I haven't found six feet of dirt yet. Up there by the house is mostly 4 feet and the rest is mostly one or two feet to bedrock. One of the neighbors had to blast to put in a pole barn. Another neighbor had a contractor spend 10 hours on a bobcat with a jackhammer attchment to get his septic tank in. All the houses set fairly close to the creek. Right behind the house is a fairly good hill with rock sticking through the topsoil right down to the creek

I am hoping to get her in the seat of that Dixon in a few years.

She is actually 4 years old but very tall for her age they tell me.
I was driving the old VAC Case when I was just able to reach the pedals and the oliver when I had enough weight to push in the clutch. I won't start her that young but she does show promise with the little electric Gator that we got her. They (the neighbor kids and her) are already picking up trash from the yard and putting it in the bed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe we will have to have a birthday party for our BXs next year /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And to everyone, thanks for the comments on my daughter.
I have a saying:
Everyone thinks their kid is the cutest, they are WRONG, mine is.
