Gooseneck or bumper pull?

Are these comparing the same width trailers, both deckovers, same crossmembers, tails, ramps, no deck on top of goose, etc? 1,300 lbs sounds like way too much if only difference is hitch.

This sounds about right. GN trailers are on average 1000# heavier in my experience.

Post #27, +600 lbs for PJ gooseneck is more like it. I think someone was comparing an I-Beam deckover GN to a 6" channel lowboy equipment BP to come up with a 1300 lb incresse. If the design and all specs are the same the GN should not even add 1000 lbs.

See my post #38, my 22' BP is actually longer including the knife edge tail. The tongue is another 5-6'.

Normally the advertised length is the usable bed length, and includes the length of the dovetail, if any.

Not on an appalachian bp trailer, there is a narrowed section at the front of the trailer that they count as deck length. Should truly measure over a foot shorter.

GN. Reason being is you can put much more weight on the hitch.

There is no right answer because it depends on the item or items you're trying to load and how the trailer manufacturer laid out the placement of the axles. It would also depend on tow vehicle specs.

If loading pallets of fertilizer you could use the entire length by just placing the pallets appropriately to balance the load, assuming of course that the trailers weren't so long that the trailer GVW rating was exceeded.

If loading some long, awkward, unbalanced machine, who knows, you could luck out with either setup. You could end up with too much or too little tongue weight in either case, BP or GN. With the BP some adjustment might be possible with equalizer hitch but with the GN it is what it is and you can't change it, but could possibly make the argument that a GN is more "forgiving" of an improperly balanced load.
