good morning, 30 and high of 37, snowy conditions expected around 6 PM

Nice relaxing day yesterday. All had a good time

Got a set of SDS drill bits. A useful gift and timely for some work on the stone walls at the 200 year old barn

Watching this mornings show "Cycle Around Japan on NHK Japan" Always enjoy the visits to small businesses and seeing the skills and patience
Have had long association with japan through business that developed into personal relationships. Started more than 40 years ago with the purchase of a Desalination plant

May pick up a couple of the grandkids and take them out

have a pound of Hortons columbian coffee to enjoy
is Horton's like a high class Maxwell house? Perhaps more like Starbucks. I know it's Canadian.
with new tariffs, wonder what my friend paid for this.
Interestingly, Horton's has had a roasting facility in Rochester, New York since 2001. Some Horton's Coffee is actually exported to Canada from that facility. Although the majority of coffee for their Canadian restaurants is roasted at their facility in Ancaster, Ontario.

There were several Horton's stores in Houston that I visited a couple years ago. Their coffee was OK, but nothing to go out of the way to get, in my opinion. I've just been drinking coffee with chicory for too long.

The lady with the fall is doing ok but sore. Sadly she is alone and have no-one to help with daughter living several hours away. She walks poorly and is not able to negotiate the stairs without difficulty. D is checking in on her and try to help out

65°F and .10 inches rain.

My prime rib roast a big hit. A bit more medium than medium rare, but tolerable. Christmas dinner a hit.

Sophie has ophthalmologist appointment this morning. Hard to believe he didn’t give his staff a long weekend.

Otherwise, rest of day will be weather dependent.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

Text messages and Email Christmas Greetings are overwhelming the traditional Christmas Cards nowadays. I'm not at all sure it's a good thing. As a traditionalist I like to send and receive hand signed Christmas Cards. Although I have contributed to the 'electronic onslaught' myself.
We narrowed down our hand signed cards, still sent 50 or so.

Christmas cards I believe we got one. Holly always sent them out and have no clue where list is.

Sad people we knew thru the years once she got sick disappeared never to be heard from again

Nice picture Ken thanks for sharing

If the goal is to wish someone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year or whatever cheer you want to send, Email, Text and Social Media is the new way of commumicating today, so I'm not opposed to it at all.

radar shows freezing rain about here. little sleet earlier. Son went to work out, but should be home soon.

Christmas eve service was good.
Wifey decided after service was over at 7:30, that she wanted to go out to eat. Well, we live in a small town. Ended up the only fast food place open was MacDonalds. There we ate.

We had many kinds of tamales for Christmas day late lunch. Pork, chicken, salsa verde chicken, red salsa pork, beef. I bought 10 dozen, but we still have about 4 dozen left over. Maybe 15 people. 2 of which were very rambunctious 3 year olds ! They were the entertainment.

I got a costco membership, a Milwaukee portable air compressor (very nice), and some cash.

Need to repair my wooden walkway between back patio and barn. Have to do this about as often as anyone needs to refinish a deck.

Expected to hit 80F today. Haven't seen this warm of Christmas since 1968.

Son shot his first wild boar last night using a night vision scope. Not at our place but about 15 miles away. Maybe around 250 lbs. Not worth eating for us.

Gotta get going.

Prayers for our team, our nation, and for peace around the world.

We have some thief in our mail's routing system. They tear open many of the envelopes and even packages. Could be local, or Austin mail. USPS is delivering for amazon too here. I wish they could be caught and prosecuted.

home finally
picked up zerk at Popgadgets and offered to help him in his xmas bakery deliveries
so on way home went a little further and dropped a small cake off at Ken's, and wished Holly and
son merry christmas. Son has really grown since I met him, tall very handsome young man.

Ken's santa present was very impressive, a new oscilloscope that was winking and blinking away.
remarkable how small they have become

zerk screwed in fine under light pressure, got both sides of snowblower well lubed and that's
a wrap for today. Radar says it's snowing, but it isn't, just grey out

made a pot of that columbian coffee, will see if it tastes like Burger King coffee...

now I hope to do less than nothing.

37F and very moist and foggy @ 14:15, calling for a high of 52F for the day ... but that will not happen until late this evening.

Got some more unfaced fiberglass insulation cut to length yesterday and placed in stud cavities.

Also cut some polyiso foam board and got it placed behind the last stud on the east wall on the southern end for some support. The top of that stud is under some HVAC ducting ... so there was really nothing to secure it to at the top ... need to do a bit more thinking on that to come up with a solution to make it solid.

Got cleaned up and shaved after that plus The Woman gave me a haircut ... which was very badly needed as the hair was totally out of control.

Headed over to relatives a little before 17:00 (it's less than a 10 minute trip)

Think there were around 14 of us total so not the entire clan but a decent turnout nonetheless.

In addition to the turkey with gravy and pumpkin bread we brought, our hostess had prepared hot Hungarian smoked sausage with sauerkraut, pulled pork, her homemade mac and cheese, stuffing to go with the turkey, her homemade corn souffle, scalloped potatoes, mashed potatoes, Kings Hawaiian rolls, a tray of cookies and brownies, homemade apple crisp, and some sort of cranberry salad dish ... which got missed and was never taken out of the refrigerator ...

The Mystery Gag Gift Drawing went well, probably 4 or 5 go rounds ... the deal is you pick a present and open it (could be a gag or something decent) and then you can swap with someone for something they have that you'd like. M&M's (perennial favorite) and a hot sauce sampler were heavily fought over. There were 3 young ones there this year (youngest was 5 and a real firecracker) and watching them open and then trade gifts was a real hoot.

The Woman scored a wall calendar, some new kitchen towels, and another amaryllis. I got a $10 Menards gift card, a carton of Slim Jims, and a 3 pak of waterless hand soap.

We did our duty and took a bunch of the leftovers and left our hosts with a full loaf of pumpkin bread.

Had a great time, got back home a little after 22:00.

On the agenda for today:

Quick run down to NAPA to pick up another gallon of anti-freeze for the van then top the coolant off.

Woman mentioned yesterday that a bunch of flagged stakes placed up by the shop. Saw those on the way out yesterday, probably 20 to 30 of them.

From the looks of it I have a sneaking suspicion that it's marking the 6" gas transmission line that crosses our property. Not sure what's going on with that, could be that they are considering replacing and/or relocating the line ... since some of the stakes are in an area where there is no line presently. Will need to do some further checking into that.

Probably get that order placed for the drywall while it's still on sale. Menards in Massillon had over 100 sheets in stock when I checked the other day but are now out. Kent and Cuyahoga Falls stores still have inventory though.

Beyond that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas ... (y)

Same here, gift cards I mailed to kids 2 yrs ago were stolen from cards, so we don’t mail those now.

And that's why it becomes more like threadlock in time. Vegetable oils are a poor lubricant and become tacky in short other.
The only thing the PAM needs to do is make the back blade so the snow doesn't stick to it. It does it perfect for me at $2.oo/can.
I can beat the bucket against the curl stops to empty it IF I have to, but I cannot do that with the BB.
42.4 and that’s about it rain showers off and on Canada is very cold it’s going to come down sooner than later

Enjoy your day Thomas

Bird looks cold Ron

Prayers for all our Country
We were supposed to get up to 12 today, but it is +4°F now. Snow in the forecast.
One would think.

FWIW: We, and most of our neighbors, switched to Fort Knox mailboxes, and the theft problem for the area disappeared. Given that conviction rate for mail theft is close to zero, I'm under no illusions that the various miscreants were caught. My neighbor got a hilarious video of a thief ransacking my neighbor's mailbox, while parked in the middle of the road. Helpful, a female accomplice turned on the hazard flashers as it is a blind hairpin, nicely illuminating everyone. 🙄🤣

What model night scope does your son have? Given our local pig population boom, we clearly have to gear up for pigs for next year.

We had a great Christmas with family, catching up, cooking, eating and having fun. My relatives introduced me to a new board game, "Ticket to Ride", whereupon I lost spectacularly, having a great time. I tried a new recipe for candied walnuts, honey and rosemary flavor. I'm not sold on the flavor combination, but it seemed to go over well.

There is lots of storm debris in the roadway, including some widowmakers across the road. My spouse drove out to run some errands, and I think some of the debris tore out an ABS sensor, as the dash lit up with warning lights. Tomorrow's job when it stops raining. I've had this problem before and IIRC there is an annoying glitch in that the code will only clear after both a) the issue is fixed, cleared via the OBD controller, and then the vehicle needs to be driven something like 5-15 miles before it clears.

All the best,

Peter

A way to eliminate the annoying light is to put a piece of duct tape over it. The tape wont clear the code, but it will stop the light from shining in your face. ;)

Peter, be careful of the rain and being near slopes where stuff can wash down

snow has finally started, 26 out now so whatever is coming down is either ice or snow
and likely both
glad to be inside and warm
enjoying that Columbian coffee from Hortons. I set the drip machine on bold setting, and
it has some flavor. Just not a lot.
I am reminded I liked the coffee with a little chicory in it.

anyone have a recommendation for coffee with only a little chicory in it?
I've had some that were pretty strong but liked the Cafe du Monde in cans

   / Good morning!!!! #216,359
When I want a coffee, I go to McDonalds. Tims coffee sux to me. Boston Pizza coffee isn't bad, but Mandarin all you can eat buffet coffee is THE best restaurant coffee in Ontario.
If I have coffee at home then it is a dark french roast ground on the Turkish setting (extra fine) and brewed in a french press. I don't care for chicory at all.
