Those of you with magnetic drills, have any of you used them to countersink large diameter holes, e.g. 3/4 or 1" bolt holes?
Yes, using something like this with a Weldon shank to directly into the quill of the mag drill.

Accusize Industrial Tools 1-1/4'' Hss Countersink for Rota-Cutter, 3/4'' Weldon Shank for Magnetic Drilling Machine, 90 Deg, Ce00-0114 https://a.co/d/3FDFlBT

My best guess is probably not, but maybe there is a magnetic drill strong enough. Don't let me dissuade you.

A 3/4" thread flat head bolt has an 82° angle countersink, and the head is nearly 1.5" diameter. Yes, almost 1.5". It takes a lot of force to push and cut an 1.5" cutter into steel.
I will tell you this, if it was asked of me, I would put the part on the cnc mill and helically interpolate the chamfers. They would look perfect like they were "made at the factory".

Now if you had a big Cincinnati Bickford radial arm drill press....

Now down to 18F with clouds @ 18:30, calling for a low of 16F in the overnight.

Fairly productive afternoon.

Got both sets of shelving fully unloaded.

Initially it looked like there was a potential disaster looming on the horizon with that:

IMG_4013 copy.jpg

But the can was nearly empty, wasn't stuck, and I was able to lift it and move it over to the top of the wood burner ... with none of the remaining contents leaking out.

Once I had the shelving unloaded I moved the first set in front of the second and cleaned off the wall.

Ran across this which was kinda odd, given the location (foundation along the entryway to the front door):

IMG_4014 copy.jpg

Appears to be hole that was cast into the foundation and later plugged. Only thing I can figure is that maybe initially there was some kind of drain being contemplated ... ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Once I got the wall cleaned off I headed over to grab the next panel in the other room and found that feral kitty had showed up to grab some chow:

IMG_4015 copy.jpg

Seems like a good sized cat ... and certainly didn't look like it was starving. Woman says it's been up to the one neighbors who has been feeding it. Supposedly friendly. Neighbor was talking about taking it in and getting it shots + spayed/neutered ... still waiting for Her to get off the dime and give a call and see if he did it.

Then got the next panel cut, glued up, placed, and braced:

Getting the next piece of foam board put up is going to require moving the alarm system and the box it's housed in. Will try and get that unmounted and hung out of the way with some mechanics wire after dinner.

Speaking of which, there should be a hot snausage sandwich and a garlic bun arriving here very shortly from the local pizza joint ...

Woman has plans for dinner over with Her neighbor friend ... so I'll be free to make all the noise I want ... at least until She gets back home and wants to hit the rack ... ;)

Hope everyone had a decent day ... (y)

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 14C and it's presently 28.4C, mostly clear with a bit of a breeze. There was 5.3mm in the gauge @ 0900.

Yesterday's run to the PO was productive as, not only was the expected parcel collected, there was a somewhat unexpected invoice that I was able to pay there. I then went over to the bottle-o, grabbed a case of beer and dropped that off at the neighbour's front door so that they can be put on ice. I'll be spending Christmas luncheon with them as is our tradition ever since I moved here 13 years ago.

I then decided to defy the weatherguessers (a chance of rain, yeah, right  ) and mow around the house/DW.

15 minutes and it started to rain. In my defence, it came from the East, which is an unusual direction.

I did get the string-trimmer 'head' re-strung.

Today I'll finish up the mowing as it's dried up.

That's about it, take care all

Got new tars today! The rims I ordered from AgStates Wheel came in today and they were correct and I'm a happy customer of theirs.

The rims' new yeller paint is a lot more yeller than my old faded pastel yeller.

Oh, and I'm thanking the Good Lord for all of his blessings, especially 1/2" drive cordless impacts!

My tinnitus is horrible right now, having my head between the wheel and the diesel motor while using the noisy impact. I should've used hearing protection.

I took my wifey grocery shopping at 2 stores today. We are having a soup party after church Sunday, with many bringing different type soups. Wifey is making chicken and dumpling.

Oh and it was 41°F this morning, but went up to about 66°

Texas High School football championships are wrapping up yesterday thru Saturday. Normally very competitive, but a few blowouts. Are any of y'alls HS football teams still playing playoff games this late? We start the season in the burning hot of summer, and finish almost in winter.

Alarm system box and associated wiring undone from the wall, box now hanging from a piece of mechanic’s wire. Also switch box for the room lights and the conduit running to it undone and hanging loose.

Joint between the floor and the wall caulked.

About to cut the next piece of foam board and see if I can’t get it stuck up before I knock off for the day.

Much as I would love to have one, for exactly this sort of use, my drill press is a touch smaller. It is a Walker-Turner radial drill press. It has great throat reach, but not the HP or ultra low speed for a 1.5" countersink. I do admit to a soft spot for old iron.

Peter, either tomato juice or peroxide will help to neutralise the skunk stink off the cat.

Kyle, those skins look really good.:)

1°F tonight, snow tonight and tomorrow. Winds haven't been all that bad. 30 mph at the most.
😆 Yes we stock several quarts of peroxide for exactly this reason, because when you need peroxide, you really need it. We use this recipe;

We dilute the peroxide (1qt) and tsp Dawn or baby shampoo, and the 1/4C of baking soda in a gallon of water.

Growing up, we used tomato juice, and in my fortunately limited experience, I think that the peroxide version is more effective.

The cat turned up around dinner time scent free. I'm not sure what magic she used. No, she is not a black cat.

I was picking up wood pieces out of a pile this afternoon and lifted a log off of a pretty bright yellow and white diamondish patterned, shiny skinned snake. I had leapt backwards before my brain registered why I was jumping. Afterwards, it looked like an eastern corn snake, but it would about a thousand miles outside of its range. My spouse thinks it might be an albino variant of the California King snake. It definitely got my heart racing, but it was a very pretty snake. I'll go check during daylight tomorrow with a camera and a long handled tool to see if it is still there. (I had covered it back up.)

All the best,

Peter
