Brother had a Dual, and bought an Accutrac (sp?) that had a laser to detect the gaps between tracks. Almost as good as a CD player.

A good turntable/arm/cartridge will sound better than any CD.
There is a lot to be said about avoiding D/A conversion, not to mention the missing data, even with a 44k sampling rate.
However….
The cost is a whole lot more for an audiophile grade turntable set up, and vinyl is a lot less convenient. And the gap in fidelity is small.
I still have “vintage” setup, a Thorens turntable, an SME tone arm and an Ortofon cartridge, but I didn’t move it to the old folks home, and all my vinyl is in storage in the shop.

The other misnomer is with “linear”tracking turntables. The tone arm actually rocks back and forth with the drive system continuously adjusting the angle as the record plays.
They do not track in an absolute linear fashion, as the groove spacing on LP’s is neither standard or consistent.

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 11C and it's presently 16.1C, overcast with a mild breeze. There was 1.7mm in the gauge @ 0900 with some rain since then.

Off'n'on rain showers for today so I'll putter around today, although I did spot a simple roof repair that I can do on the Church's entrance. Yeah, the forecast 'says' I can get at that.

That's about it, take care all.

Good worship this morning, my younger son was song leader so I did the streaming which he normally does. Good lunch at the usual Italian place. My wife had headache, did not go this morning. found out this morning the guy to teach this evening was in the ER, so I volunteered to teach his class, so this afternoon threw together a quick lesson which was delivered successfully tonight.
Tomorrow we pre bake the turkey for later in the week.

have BB in the house tonight, he and Tiger have been having fun chasing each other around the house. Snagglepuss is in the garage sleeping after getting a belly full. BB wasn't interested in eating, just wanted company and to play.

those linear track turntables were quite a revolution when they came out.
not the easiest to repair or live with when older
Thorens with SME arm is a beautiful piece of modern machine art
Ortofon or Shure cartridge
I look at what is in Crutchfield catalog, some odd new names like Project.
nice walnut case AR turntable would be fine, once renovated
many of those original clear plastic covers are messed up
wonder if that really could "buff out" ?
Technics makes a ton of record players, some very high end

I bet a few of us went off to school lugging a KLH portable stereo
including a Garard changer. Trying to find out if you played that Beatles record backwards
would you unlock the secrets of the universe

Always found it easier to double clutch going round corner.
That is a no, no. Shifting gears going around corners or crossing railroad tracks.

Did enough to keep the dust bunnies off me 2 nap day :oops:body sore also head from coughing early pillow time again tonight.
Drink lots of fluids. Beer counts, it is almost like water anyway. ;)

Drinking hot cup of coffee. 23° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 50° with cloudy skies. Plans for yesterday got canceled. Neighbor, wife and 2 kids came down with some kind of stomach illness. So I looked on to-do list and found a couple of little items that need to be done. Today I will make sure all gutters and downspouts are clear.
Yesterday's sunset out kitchen window.
