52F cloudy.

Got little surprise before dark last evening,Mrs. made mad dash to the store as she was coming up driveway she stop sent text...Look under maple tree than go downstairs look out window see what's under deck  mother bear and her 2 cubs lofting under maple as usual,I slowly approach basement window there laid mother bear with single cub  Ms. Scooter kitten decided she wanted look jump on window cell, cub bear got up walk to window raise paw,Scooter trying to make tracks couldn't get traction but when she did GONE broke 2 flower pots...must be some kind family reunion neither mother bears were nervous and cubs didn't care less than 100' a part.

Good day at work, plans for the afternoon take backpack blower for hike but mother nature decided other wise,3 quick heavy down power and swirling winds. :(

Plans for the evening just going to numb until pillow time.

Enjoy your day all.

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 7.8C and it's presently 20.1C, mostly clear with a fairly steady breeze.
in front of "Wagtail Park". Upon close-up inspection of the trunk/branch of the Council road tree that came down over my fence into Paddock #5; it's a multi-trunk type of evergreen and too much for me to handle. The trunk is split and the next big blow or two is going to bring it down on the road. So I went over to the Council Depot and let them know, giving them permission to enter the property. It's not a 'priority' but needs to be done soon-ish.
Yesterday arvo a couple of Council workers came and took care of 'their' trunk/branch that was over the fence onto Paddock #5. They agreed that the tree was split and a future hazard. They would put a work order in to have a contracted arborist team to have it removed.

I'm glad that I made the correct 'call' by involving the Council.

I carried on with my property clean-up = more piles of leaves/twigs and piles of broken branches.

This morning I received a call @0800 from the arborist to ask permission to come onto "Wagtail Park"! Wow, that was quick and, I guess, it was serious enough for the Council to prioritise it to "NOW!" :D They've been 'at it' since 0815 and are almost done... just the multi-trunk to be removed by the look of things.

Anyway, it's 'into town' day for groceries, with a quick stop at the PO and the Chemist. I'll continue with the property clean-up later on.

That's about it, take care all.

came home feeling pretty wiped out. Have been up since 2am
BUTTTTTTTTT
yippee
no cancer
no growths

I think you may all be stuck with me awhile...
Awesome news Drew, glad to hear it!

Scotty, I'm in awe of you passing those tests and learning Morse code.

Muhammad, thanks for explaining. Can we use the g/u^n word in the Front Porch arena?

Glad motorcycles aren't ruled out. ;)

PopG, I believe most of us are similar in thoughts.

Welded on the pond rake some. Picked up and moved it out of the barn to park the SUV in there.

Bought a like new, but flimsy Global metal cabinet with doors for $10 off of work. I don't have any cabinets to close the doors and keep the dust and debris off of stuff. No where near as strong as the old school Made in USA stuff. Heck, it cost more in fuel to go get it. LOL. Also brought home 2 bolt bins, one has 12 drawers and the other 16. Will take some work to mount them under my barn's C channel.

Thomas, you be careful with them thar beers, I mean bears. Da Bears.

Been an easy Monday and Tuesday. The students had a fall break. They were piling back to school as I was leaving this afternoon.

Kid has a homecoming parade float to ride on tomorrow in a parade that attracts a lot more people than I would imagine. It must be all the candy they throw out.

52F and clear @ 21:30, heading down to around 49F for the overnight low.

Got the 4 x 4 post for the 2nd H-brace on the northeast corner post set and braced.

Took a break during that and went up to the shop and welded up a tamping rod for the hammer drill using a 1/4" thick 2" round plate and the old (1" ?) round pipe from my SSQA. Took maybe all of 10 minutes.

Way lighter than the digging bar ... (y)

That actually worked pretty well with the HFT hammer drill ... until the weld broke on the cup bit that goes in the hammer drill ... 🤬 Will need to re-weld that tomorrow.

Anyways, the northwest corner post and that post both got filled and tamped to about 3/4 of the way with a combination of the digging bar and the hammer drill.

After that I set the staple on the northeast corner post for the brace wire.

Then drilled the hole in the northeast corner post for the spike for the crossbar and got that driven in.

Might actually be able to squeeze a 4 x 4 x 8 in on that without having to trim it.

Woman worked on cutting down weeds.

She wanted to light the pile on fire and burn them.

I suggested She might want to wait ... you know: until She was pretty much done working ... so She (we) wouldn't be breathing the smoke.

She saw the wisdom of that and held off ... but finally got to burn something and so was a Happy Camper.

Until She went inside and found there was no hot water ... a fact She came out and announced.

"Mmmmm ... did you go back and look at the water heater ... you know: to see if it was leaking ?"

Evidently that thought didn't occur to Her ...

Yup ... it's leaking ... 🤬

So it looks like there will be a trip to Menards tomorrow.

Time to go see what I can rustle up for desert.

Hope everyone had a decent day ... (y)

good morning all
up way too early but sleep patterns a little off lately

Buckeye, great song, thanks.

enjoying an early cup of coffee, lots of projects for today including mowing and trimming the whole place, then washing my rv.
That should wear me out.

since my wife died of rectal cancer at age 55, importance of colonoscopy sure clear to me...as miserable a process as it is.
Now I did not do three days of clear, which apparently I should have. Geez, three days of jello? That's mighty hard to take.
if you bleed or things hurt down there, please please get it checked out.
prep is miserable but the procedure (thank you propofol) is easy.

really looking forward to getting outside today. Should be a nice Fall day in the 60's just getting into low 70's.
need to clean out the veggie gardens too, tomatoes are done and a viney mess. Will pull them all up and chuck in woods.
that probably will wait til tomorrow.

RS, sorry about your hot water heater. Does anyone here replace the anodes or otherwise do maintenance on electric
hot water heater? With my acidic water I'm amazed I have any elements left.

hope you all have a good day.

Poured cup of fresh brewed coffee. 49° with rain this morning. Heading to 62° with partly cloudy skies. Cleaned up mailbox post, sanded, cleaned and the primed and painted. Been putting off this for many years. Built it over 40 years ago. Had not been painted again until yesterday. Need to do some barn cleanup and putting things where they belong today.

RS, sorry about your hot water heater.

LOL ... you and me both ... ;)

Does anyone here replace the anodes or otherwise do maintenance on electric
hot water heater? With my acidic water I'm amazed I have any elements left.

Ours is natural gas ... so I'm afraid I can't provide any real insights on electric units.

I can tell ya I sure wish I had checked the relief valve and drained the sediment every month ... and replaced the anode on ours though.

Having said that I can't really complain too much - I replaced ours back in 2012 and it had a 12 year warranty ... so it made it into its 13th year with no issues.

OTOH, had I done what I should have, when it needed done, I might have managed to get out of replacing it a second time.

Can't say that I'm looking forward to wrestling a 180 lb. water heater into the utility room ... or wrestling the old one out.

Glad to hear things turned out well on your colo ... (y)

They've been pestering me to get scheduled for one ... ain't gonna happen until it get real chilly though.

47 going to 74...digits flipped. Skies cleared late yesterday, so beautiful glow after sunset.

Thomas, I sure enjoy the stories about your bears.

Kyle, glad to hear your mom is doing well.

Remember that Barred Owl on the ground photo I posted recently...that same bird had been back sitting on the same branch of a tree 20 feet from the house for 3 mornings...probably more, but I've seen it around 5am each time. There are some vole holes nearby due to the bird feeders...hope it is catching them.

I had a "tractor experience" yesterday. Decided that since the highway department had cleared so much of the tree limbs and sapling/brush on their right of way this summer, that it was a good time for me to clear my side along the old horse pasture fence. So, tractor, chain saw, loppers and grapple were employed. I had 5 big piles on my side to grapple, but once cleared, I noticed that they had missed some saplings on their side...mostly loblollies and cedars. So, I climbed the fence and tackled that side...one big pile to grapple.

Drove down the highway but had to cross a small dry ditch to get to the pile...got across it, but couldn't get back...tried every angle, but always ended with a back wheel off the ground, and therefore high pucker factor. So, my tractor is parked across the ditch on our side of the road as my wife comes home from 3 days of babysitting our DIL and wondering what's up. Meanwhile I've walked up to the barn and retrieved a 3 foot cedar log/9 inch diameter to place in the ditch and she sees me walking back toward the road. Finally, success.

I know there are gizmos to tell you your tilt angle, and I probably would have been in the red. No more ditch crossing for me. I still have more to clear, though.

Good morning tbn folks. Its about 44 here this am with a predicted high of 56 today in Houghton MI. Rain is moving in on Thursday afternoon and we are still watching the weekends forecast which might be overly wet for us to be at camp.. Picked up wrench sets yesterday on sale at HF for camp and just a 3/8 drive socket set remains to get from amazonie. Got in a hike with mutts after dearest got home for her job, but we do that pretty much every day.

Good morning, the low is 39 and only going up to 52°F. Wind N 3 mph. Sunny!

The Kioti is due back today, then I can get after the other stuff I am too cheap to pay the shop to do. Gotta put the side panel back on, (it is a real p.i.t.a. to do with the loader on). Anti-freeze already checked...good for -53°F. Gotta fit the winterfront. If I had a second dust screen I would fiberglass one and just change them out, one for winter and the other for summer. Check all the coolant connections and make sure they are tight, just a whole bunch of nit picky stuff that is easier to do with the loader off in above freezing weather.

I change the anode in my hot water tank every three or four years. It is due next year.

That is my day planned out.

Have a safe day all

Good Tractor Morning,
They don't necessarily do things sensibly like understand the context between guys identifying old guns and guys talking about planning crimes
Muhammad, thanks for taking the time to explain the situation to us as a group. On your quote, it is unfortunate of where we have gone as a society, unfortunately I don’t see it returning any time in the future 🥲
If only advertisers would focus against hate, and not on a tool that's used for good or bad
Absolutely
Muhammad, thank you
now about my free tractor... ;)
😉😂
Scotty, I'm in awe of you passing those tests and learning Morse code.
Thanks Kyle, I was always good at Morse code going back to my teenage years. I guess that’s my “ claim to fame “ 😁

Drew, I replace mine at the Ct home every other year. After 2 years it’s pretty well shot 🥲

Good Tractor Morning,
Ct, 46 to start going to 61. Looks like today will be a bit warmer with hints of sunshine for a change.

Yesterday the grandsons were happy to see their Opa at their school. I was happy to be there, as well.

Today looks like more junk removal and possibly a trip to the dump.

Thomas, how about that big win by the Giants over Philly ? Yes, I know it was a few days ago but let’s see what happens now. I think we play Denver, not an easy schedule for the Giants, but maybe we have some momentum 😉

Hope all have a splendid day 🙏

Drew, I replace mine at the Ct home every other year. After 2 years it’s pretty well shot 🥲
I have an electric water heater installed in our 4th floor, which serves only one bathroom up there. It was already a few years old when we moved in 15 years ago, I suspect it's a 2005'ish model. Installer set it into a pan with the drain completely inaccessible, and also failed to install a boiler drain on the cold water valve in the basement that feeds that heater. So despite wanting to regularly drain it and replace anodes, it's not possible without draining the whole house down, which is a fairly major undertaking here.

I put a water sensor in the bottom of the pan under the water heater, which ties into our monitored whole-house alarm and automation system, and this also controls the whole-house shutoff valve. I've been waiting for the damn thing to kick off, so I could redo that whole situation, but probably close to 20 years in... still going strong. :ROFLMAO:

good morning, 49 going to 69 mostly sunshine today

Helped wife with icing swelling. Hope for improvements soon
Infusion went well, good for another month

Replaced our propane water heater not long ago with a Rheem unit with double anodes

Good morning TBN!!
49 this morning with a high of mid 70s this afternoon. Going to be a really nice day under sunny skys.

Worked on the back up 4x2 yesterday. I had sprayed it off in anticipation of electric work. Couldn't even see the wire colors. I thought maybe something was wet and it could still be. I have some electronis spray coming today and will disassemble and clean connections. I did take the battery out and cleaned the posts and went through the main grounds. Had a new coil in stock so I put that in and a new plug. I am getting good spark.
Got the wiring harness in and laid it out on a table to hook up. Chinese crap. Even the individual connections don't color code match. Hopefully it goes a bit better this time. I will certainly take my time and test each connection I make to be sure it's doing what it should.
Two projects at once. Pick and choose as the mood hits :)
Got out to walk the dog our usual morning mile. I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't sore from the previous 5 mile hike with my son. Not sore but my muscles seemed "tired".
Todays agenda will be to tackle the buggy again. Or 4x2. Or nothing.
Wife would like to go away tonight to see the stars. She wanted to go to Mt Mitchell but that is more then an hour each way. Did convincer that Linville Gorge would be just as good and only 30 minutes away.
I don't quite understand this ask as we live on a mountain with little to no light pollution. But happy wife happy life!

Time for a second cup
Everyone have a great and safe day!!
