Here's something interesting: I saw a female pheasant in our yard yesterday afternoon. It is the first one I've seen in roughly 15 years of living here, and honestly, the first female I've seen since 1988.

I used to hunt pheasant on a family farm that happened to be right across the street (I think?) from @kenmbz's place, and I remember when they all disappeared right around 1987/88. That last year, I only saw two.

In the decade and a half I've been at our current address, I've seen a male twice, but this was the first female. Maybe there's hope for them, yet!
(y)...Been good 30+ years since I've seen wild pheasant :( but the turkeys many and strong every year.

The Ring Neck Pheasant of old was a Korean Ring Neck as I recall. Very few of them ever survived over the winters around here. Many of the 4H and Grange projects involved hatching and raising them for release in the early fall before hunting season. In much of the Midwest they have an establishing hunting population.
In NYS they are still a raised and released animal;https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/small-game/pheasant

Greenwich is a good 15F cooler than here, so I guess that's not a huge surprise. They were wild and common here, at least thru the 1970's, as I remember my father always bringing home his allotment every year when I was a kid. The flocks started thinning by 1980, and were really suffering by the time I started hunting myself in the late 1980's.
