Good morning, the low is 49 and going to a high of 77°F. Wind E 3 mph. Sunny!

Might get outside and do some piddly little jobs today. We aren't going to do anything with the tractor shed roof until after next weekend. Waiting on new string for the whipper snipper. We ran totally out.

Ron, my furnace is on all year long. I set the thermostat at 76° and leave it there. When the thermostat calls for heat, we get heat. When the temperature in the house gets into the 80s, then we turn on the fan only. It sucks cooler air from the basement and sends it upstairs. Cheap mans A/C. It might be cheap but it is nicer on the wallet than buying real A/C and then shelling out for the power to run it.

Our little uh darlins go back to school tomorrow. School busses, yuk. It used to be that school started on my Uncles' birthday. 4 Sept. but they moved it up a couple of days.

Time for breakfast, have a safe day all

48 outside this AM, heading to upper 70's.

Busy at the airport yesterday. So far all my trips into Dulles this year required hunting for a daily parking space. I followed one person after I asked him if I could have his spot. LOL. Just busy. B u s y.

MIL back in Florida, yippie.

Today I'll be working on the back fence lines. Should be an all day job. May run out and get a PowerBall ticket. Why not?

Hope all in the US have a good holiday. Be safe.

two of my favorite paintings are small scenes of the Washington NC marina area along the Pamlico River.
One of them allegedly was of Jimmy Buffet's sailboat but I wasn't sure if that was true. Well, along comes this youtube video
about Jimmy Buffet's boats and bingo there is the Pacifica Seacraft, a fine boat, as shown in the painting.
I really miss the water.

yes buy a powerball today

Good Morning,
Vt, 48 to start going to 74 or so. Some muted cloud cover this Morans the gang will be leaving before 10 or 11. Kathleen and I will do some cleaning and head to the lake for one last ride for the weekend.

Had a nice trip around the lake yesterday, and then came back to mow the lawn. Everything is pretty dry, so shouldn’t need to be mowed again for awhile.

Drew, I enjoyed listening to the organ music this morning while sitting on the can, it bluetooths right to my hearing aids 😉

Hope all have a good Labor Day 🙏

that's a lot of nice nuts

I find Google's AI very helpful, despite the fact it's probably going to take over the world some day...

why is today a holiday?
  • Late 1800s: The holiday originated during a period of industrialization when many Americans, including children, worked 12-hour days, seven days a week, for low wages and under unsafe conditions. Labor unions and activists began advocating for better treatment and workers' rights.
  • First Labor Day parade (1882): On September 5, 1882, approximately 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to participate in the first Labor Day parade in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union.
  • Federal recognition (1894): Following unrest among workers, most notably the fatal Pullman Strike in Chicago, President Grover Cleveland signed a law on June 28, 1894, making the first Monday of September a national legal holiday.

47 earlier...so quiet out since it's a holiday...even the birds were sleeping late...only sounds were the hum of the hummingbirds...then a hawk welcomed sunrise. Rare to wear a long sleeve flannel out every morning for the last few days of August.

My wife says Happy Meteorological Autumn! Heading to 78.

Ken, you inspired me to spray the softball sized wasp nest under my shelter...I was hoping to leave it alone until after the first freeze, but it is directly above and only 4 feet above my log splitter...and I think I'll need to use that sooner. They were all snuggled up together this morning before sunrise since it was so cold, and all fell on the tarp over the splitter, so I might be tempted to count them when I clean up later.

Took my Weber grill apart yesterday and gave it a good cleaning...when I removed the front panel there was a mouse nest stuffed between two valves, on the manifold and wind deflector...just don't see how those guys get in such tight places...cleaned the burners real well, reassembled, tested, then grilled some delicious jerk chicken breasts.
BEF if I remember you liked The Old Home Place well it’s reopening next spring 2026 new owners will keep same format. Mowed grass yesterday still sneezing. Yuk
I was just by there Wednesday, and wishing it was still open. Heard great things about it.

The cans of wasp spray work quite well and it just takes a day or two for them to all have died.

Glad you made it back safe Arly. Just woke up for second time. One foot out of covers precious licking my toes that will wake you up. Her duties done breakfast for her complete now ready to start the day. Holly will have everything bagel from NY Bagel me not sure.

Mother Nature knows things we do not Ron so it might be rough in winter.

My Crystal ball is not clear yet but indications for your area are cold and colder

Morning all, 65 going to 78 and sunny, dry
Got the towel rack in the apartment sanded and the anchors worked great.
Out to diner last night. Wife has had to work most of the weekend.

Pool cleaned of leaves, no mowing since it's so dry grass has not been growing.

Found a weird mushroom out front, heard they are bioluminescent, went out last night and slight green glow.

Dog got a bath, she is nice and puffy now.

Need to get gas in sons Jeep and fill one of the cans.

Arly - sounds of freedom when you don't have to drive stuff back/forth for a while.

Be well,

Good Morning
52° this morning, high in the upper 70’s under a mostly clear sky.
It’s getting dry out there, looks like I’m getting a break from mowing, but have to water the new arborvitae.

Yesterday followed the plan pretty closely. A few chores in the morning took the little plane to lunch, wait was to long at the sky cafe in Pittstown,NJ, so we went back to PA to vansant airport in Erwinna. Grass airport with lots of antiques and gliders, and a food trailer with a limited, but excellent menu.

Got all the fence work done that I planned to, maybe a little more than that. Next outing will be to replace a 100’ section of fabric.

About the only thing on the agenda is to sort through a very cluttered section of the second floor in the shop and make room for the record cabinets from the house. My son and DIL would really like to see them leave. And he is willing to help make room for them.

bought my powerball ticket so I can buy all of you guys a new tractor.
that offers still stands.
boy would that be fun

on this day years ago I was helping my neighboring farmer disc his fields when his ancient JD broke down in the field.
Basically weed control, he then rented it out to someone else who planted beans there. But for while cleaned up a mess and was
really good seat time. I needed more weight on the disc than I had. Had some disc cleanup when I got home

I also that day apparently was mowing the public roadsides on the way down to far side of my farm that I couldn't get to because of a swamp
in the middle. Landpride finishing mower with very sharp blades, I left those roadways looking like postcards. Then county mowers come along and scalp them terribly, leave giant lumps out there I now don't want to run over with my mower and dull the blades. Pretty sandy there and not
conducive to sharp blades.

did have one part of the roadway where the banks were steep and fell away from the road. I never liked those steep parts.
was happy to let road crew mow them. There was one part where the farmer had planted beans right up to the road so when I mowed it looked really nice from the road. I saw him once and got a big wave from him.
particularly if I was driving the big Massey.
Kubota said I was a homeowner. Big Massey said I might know something about farming
or was serious about something, and local farmers always slowed down to look. Always checking out what was going
on out in the fields.

   / Good morning!!!! #210,858
Good morning fellas. Had a pretty relaxing holiday weekend for the most part.

Mowed the yard Saturday. Everything was going great until the belt for the deck broke. ordered a new belt. Should be here next Monday.

Ended up brush hogging the rest of the lawn to get it knocked down to something semi presentable

Had a good church service yesterday. Then came home and took care of some small maintenance projects after a lunch at jersey Mike's.

Slept in and relaxing today. Took the pooches for a decent walk this morning.

Fired up the smoker, put on a couple racks of ribs.

Got a couple more hours smoking, then I'll doctor them up with some apple butter, apple juice, and some sweet baby rays, wrap them loosely, and bring them up to about 220° so they fall off the bone

76F and sunny @ 12:00, calling for a high of 78F for the day. Nearby LWS reports 47.2F was the morning's low temp.

Fairly productive day yesterday.

Got Water Buffalo refilled first thing.

Then all 10 arbs watered, 2 gallons each. Also watered the spruce tree in that line, 4 or 6 gallons IIRC.

Got planting hole up by shop re-drilled. Went smooth like butter after wetting it down the previous day.

Put forks on Kubota and got old washing machine moved over to barn.

After that checked gear oil in Kubota front axle and hydraulic fluid, did not require adding any, levels adequate.

Woman came out and got after cleaning up in front of the garage, made very good progress on that.

Put the four PT 2 x 12's on the forks and took them around back by the garden and got those scrubbed down and hosed off. Brought back around front and put them on hay wagon to dry.

Swapped forks for the Light Material bucket and hauled down 6 bucket loads of wood chips to mulch the east side of garden.

Refilled hopper and both tube feeders, also both suet feeders. Plus scattered some seed for the ground feeders.

Took Kubota around back and gather up trimmings from the 2 Japanese crab apple trees. Then headed up front to collect more trimmings from the pine.

Woman volunteered to cut down the weeds on the east side next to the house. Her little B&D battery-powered string trimmer wasn't quite up to the task so I volunteered my services with the Stihl FS66. Verified that was still in good working condition after getting it back from young neighbor.

Got that area sprayed with glyphosate after raking out the debris, finished spraying the north end of the east side of the expanded garden area.

Woman said something about cutting down the last volunteer ash tree growing at the northeast corner of the house so I told her to go get me Her B&D battery-operated chainsaw.

Got that cut down ... which should improve the Wi-Fi signal out front and up at the shop ... since the tree was directly in front of the antenna.

Loaded up the ash trimmings on the Kubota and the weed trimmings into the dump cart and took both up and dumped them.

Started gathering up the stuff that needed to come inside and got that stuff put away.

Suggested that we head down to the local creamery for a treat after that.

Put on a fresh shirt and was washing my hands at the kitchen sink when I noticed Rocky Jr. was out snacking on the seed I had scattered at the feeders.

Couldn't let that opportunity pass, so I grabbed the 12 gauge and snuck outside. Managed to nail him with my last No. 4 shot shell ... and was about to go put him out of his misery when he stopped twitching.

He was still there this morning ... so disposing of him is the first item on today's agenda.

Beyond that not sure ... never any shortage of things that need done though.

Hope everyone is having a decent Labor Day ... (y)
