BEF - glad you found some pictures. Make sure your family knows where they are and it's great you can scan them for everyone.

My Dad many years ago asked my brother to send our pictures to him so he could annotate them.
We have looked at his house multiple times and they are nowhere to be found.
Always wondered if his GF just threw them out.
So no pictures from when I was about 4, him 8, until late high school. No vacation pictures, nothing.

I told my family i took them to scan. I usually return them, but now, might just hold onto them. I asked the family who would want the very old pics from my Great Grandmother, taken late 1800's into early 1900's. I have scanned those, but would like someone interested in family history to take them, as I doubt my boys will be interested.
Most of the pics from the 70's were taken with very bad cameras, but in the 80s they got better.

The water line company at the farm brought in equipment today to put in another water line crossing for us. I took tractor down tuesday, saw it wasn't done yet. They bury a culvert and put the pipe through the culvert so we can get over it. This pipe is like a big garden hose, if they don't pump, it will lay flat and you can drive over it. In this pic the orange is the end of one of the crossings, the new crossing is further down this line.

on this day nine years ago I was seriously pissed at a big black bear in Washington NC.
wrecked front of my truck night before after dinner with friend, luckily able to drive home and did a little temporary
fender repair with the Kubota
hopefully never do that again.
that was most expensive dinner yet with a 1000 deductible
this gen Ram has frame rails all the way up to the front, just bunted that bear off with a loud metallic twang
of that metal bumper getting rung pretty well

69°F and .65 inches rain

Another good day mowing yesterday, just not as much as anticipated. Went out as soon as dry enough and made progress A couple hours. Took a break for lunch. Just as we were sat down to eat got a txt from LA friends asking to meet them for early dinner, and their treat. Would have been impolite to refuse. Do lunch turned into just a break as I figured I could get another couple hours mowing. Except I didn’t. Mowing back out by the road and one of my neighbors pulls up. Not a short visit. Dwayne is pretty excited he just pulled the switch on a new Silverado EV. Should get it next week.
Then I decided I need to leave earlier in order to refill diesel. Factor in time for a shower, mowing over for the day.

Strange day ahead as we pickup Canadian friends for airport later this morning. Maybe I’ll squeeze an hour this morning.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

73.5F and cloudy @ 13:45, calling for a high of around 73F. Sun may make an appearance later today.

Headed out yesterday to go work in the garden and as soon as I got out there it started drizzling ... 🤬

Hung around long enough to collect up a 5 gallon bucket of produce that needed to be picked … including a couple of monster zucchinis:

IMG_3842 copy.jpg

Then came on back inside and worked on moving frozen produce out of the freezer in the refrigerator into the chest freezer and getting that organized.

Made some interesting discoveries in the refrigerator freezer once it was unpacked enough to actually find things.

Got a bill paid after that.

Then moved into trying to troubleshoot the vacuum sealer. Not much luck there … the unit occasionally indicates it’s at least getting power by beeping … it’s kind of random … but doesn’t go into normal operating mode and cannot be used.

IIRC, the deal on the acquisition of this unit was kinda screwy: at the time we were considering picking one up (but hadn't researched them) Woman was talking to Her neighbor lady friend. She ended up going over a visit and when She came back She announced that a vacuum sealer had been ordered from Amazon and would be here shortly.

Supposedly it was “just like” the neighbor lady’s (... but a different no-name Chinese brand … 🙄) … and it had been ordered on the neighbor lady’s Amazon account … 🤬

So now we have a non-working product … which should still be under warranty … which we have no purchase record for.

Neighbor lady friend was just trying to be “helpful” … but just waaay too complicated.

So I ordered a Nesco unit which was about triple the cost but very well-rated, from a US-based company with a 1 year warranty and which will be here tomorrow.

I ended up prepping all the okra (including the previously picked older stuff), digging out the Presto Fry Baby and cleaning that up (somewhat), and locating a cord for it.

Deep fried the okra after breading it, along with 2 Shrimp cakes and 2 Crab cakes for dinner.

Left the fresh, just-harvested okra for The Woman which She had along with the leftovers of the last Hello Fresh meal She had made the day before. The okra got Her seal of approval and She ate all of it ... (y)

The drizzle continued on and off throughout the evening. Not enough to be significant but it will keep the grass green.

Agenda for today:

Back to watering in the garden.

Then get Water Buffalo refilled.

Some maintenance along the back fence line.

One of the smaller Rose of Sharon's is now blooming:

... different color than the largest one, which is still going strong:

Hope everyone is having a decent Thursday ... (y)

Dump/town run done. Left my license at home.

Swapped buckets and put some more dead grass on the compost pile along with the peach pits. Turned the wood pile for the last time this year.

Got the medical form for my class 'A' license in the mail. It felt really good to crumple it up and chuck it in the garbage. IF I don't do the medical my license will be downgraded to a 'G'. Boo, hoo. LOL
Last January, I got the notification that if I didn't do the written and road test in a class "'A' vehicle my license would be downgraded to a 'G'. I didn't do it. So I have been driving around with a class 'A' license that has already been downgraded to a 'G'. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
I went on the MTO website, punch in my license number and it comes back as a valid 'G' license.

I have digitized a lot of the still pictures my g-mother & I took from 1955 and up to 1970. G-mother took 35mm slides and I did 35mm pictures. I started with a Kodac Brownie box camera with 127 film then upgraded to G-Mothers Argus twin lense reflex with 620 film. After she died I inherited her Ziess-Ikon Contaflex S (U.S. model)
and I bought a Contaflex S (European model), mainly for the extra lenses. Today you can get these cameras for less than $500.oo, but back in the 50s & 60s they were worth a couple of grand.

Back down the youtube rabbit hole for the rest of today.

I've been thinking about my memorial talk tomorrow morning about my MIL.
Her son said he cannot speak, too emotional. So I'm the leadoff speaker.
Other daughter decided not to come, creating huge upset
with brother. Other daughter, my late wife, will be with me in spirit.
this is the end of a promise I made twelve years ago to wife on her death bed, look out after her Mother.
And I have, and I will, all the way to getting her buried in national cemetery not far from Ken's home, in a beautiful
area that likely used to be a big farm.

and then, most likely, I will never hear from these folks again.
but meanwhile it makes me wonder what will be written about me.
How will I get described in two paragraphs or less?

actually simply think I'd like to be remembered as a good man.
guess I'd better live each day trying to be one.
not hard to do if one can be kind.
most bad stuff comes from a lack of kindness

part of what I'm reading tomorrow is a passage from the Book of Solomon, which my late MIL wanted read.
I find it a little dark and hard to read, refers to "he" but doesn't capitalize it, so I 'm trying
to emphasize the right meaning. DIL gave me the tough reading for sure.
I also have my own thoughts, all of which have been run by their family so no surprises and
no overlap with DIL. And then a chicken lunch at the Plumsteadville Inn. Haven't been there in 30 years.
Hydrangeas from my front bushes will be decorating the luncheon tables.

and then I'm done, really done
