beautiful dog Buppies, sorry not easier at home, special prayers sent your way

Ken, lot of damage, holler next time if you need help. I'm useless, have no equipment,
can't pick up anything, but I'm sure I can help! ;)

picked the last of the romaine lettuce, two gallon ziplocks full, then dug the rest up.
Went to TSC and picked up two cucumbers to plant in that area.
very cloudy out, looks like a system from the North wanting to send precip down this way, we may dodge it

fine haul of beans, dinner tonight
tomatoes in that raised garden growing like mad, rather see more tomatoes than vines

/ Good morning!!!! #208,104
82F and Sunny @ 10:15, HI 86F, DP 71F, calling for a high of 92F for the day.

Neither The Woman or I slept all that well last night. I was probably up until 03:00 and woke up by 09:00 this morning same time as She did.

I did get up to the shop and finished up coating the t posts before I hit the rack.

Woman already talking about what needs to be done outside. Think that might change once She steps outside.

First item on my agenda will be to head around back and water the plants in pots on the shelves.

Plants in the garden probably could stand to be watered as well.

Cub is getting low on fuel so a trip down to the corner is on the list.

Beyond that lawn needs mowed so that’s potentially on the list as well.

Have more glyphosate spraying to do … so that could be done … assuming I can find some shade.

Beyond that see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday.

69°F and .19 inches rain

God Bless the USA

Laupahoehoe end basically mowed, some trimming around the coconut palms

Hope to start Hilo end but may get rain delay. Another 8 hours should pretty much do it.

RSVPs for 4th of July coming in

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

92F, steamy, with abundant sunshine @ 14:15. Dew point is 73F.

Plants on back shelving all watered.

1 gallon of glyphosate sprayed where I had weeded in the garden plus all along the new fence we put up on the southern edge.

Made the run down to the corner for fuel but before I stopped there I had to venture into Dunkin’ in Coventry for an iced brew.

Took that opportunity to slide into Ace Hardware and pick up a can of orange fluorescent making paint.

Refueled Cub when I got home and then started mowing the front and got that half done.

Decided to take a little cooling break.

Heading back out shortly to finish the front.

I checked CT online and in the North Bay store they have 26x1.95 tires that we need for the manual trike. $35.95 ea. + 13% tax = $122.40 (for all three)
The trike is 7 years old and those are the original tires. They are bald, but there is still rubber present. Not down to the cords, yet.

Front lawn finished.

Neighbor stopped by for a little chat.

The two of us finally got smart and took 10 steps to get out of the sun and into the shade.

Brought down the short t posts to bake in the sun.

Woman just headed out to the store for cat food and groceries, left me on duty minding the meatloaf that’s in the oven.

Still a sweltering 92F out there.

Taking the opportunity to cool off before any more outdoor fun and games.

Learned years ago securing plastic in truck body can be tricky. Bought a number of those 1x6 pvc boards for some finish work. Drove all the way home, 20 miles from HD, no hurry to unload. Next morning Sophie went for her walk, came home and announced, “ you know one of your boards is in middle of the lower driveway” had worked itself out from middle of stack. fortunately, it was home not on the highway. Try to use that saran wrap stuff ever since.

just ate my fresh picked green beans along with a bit of left over meat loaf.
interesting that the burgundy beans almost immediately turn green outside when cooking.
a little salted butter and ground pepper, very tender and good.

going to be even hotter tomorrow, so headed outside in a bit to ride the lawn mower.
I don't need to trim this time so easy to do in the heat.
going to drink some extra water before I go out

Good Evening
I started a post this morning, but never got it sent.
Just as well, the weather was nothing like the forecast.
It stayed overcast, hot and humid, but we had multiple rounds of passing showers, even some power outages. The generator started, but only ran for 25 minutes or so.

I did get out with the Lazer and finished the mowing all the way to the street. While mowing between the pastures and the pond, I noticed that there were 3 fawns inside the large pasture, and the gates were closed. Wife opened the gates and I herded them with the Lazer from outside the fence. They were slow to figure it out, but eventually found their way out.

Took advantage of the rain delays to clean up and organize in the shop. Got the M18 battery holders wired up as well.

This is the view through the Optrel welding helmet.
The auto darkening function is interesting as it has the ability to darken to a sensed intensity rather than a fixed shade. (It can also work in fixed shade mode if you wished).

IMG_6830.jpg

I have never seen a welding helmet with this level of transparency. I’ll report back after I’ve used it on a few projects, but I have great expectations.

Tomorrow is another trip to Sarasota in the morning, not likely I will accomplish anything else when I get back, it will be close to 100°.

If I could poke our TBN brain trust.
In Jun 2014 we redid our lower driveway. Base in an old cane road, topped with 1” minus stone.
11 years has taken its toll. While tempted to just bring in more rock, I think some prep in order. A bit wash boardy in places.

IMG_0838.jpeg

Years before the redo, I attempted using Box Blade, but did more damage than good. I had better luck with my land rake, especially when just topping with rock.

Too compacted this time for just the rake.
Any thoughts on using a disc harrow, just to break surface an inch or two, then the land rake, probably adding more 1” as neccessary.

/ Good morning!!!! #208,120
I suspect that the tool you want is a land plane in some form or another. If you are handy with a welder, you can probably make one quickly. I would not use a harrow.

You want to get the bigger pieces into your low spots and then drag the fines over top and compact them. If you find it recurring, I'd be tempted to get a little red clay to help bind the fines. 1"- is great, but I think that clay probably helps, especially where you are.

I think that you live in a wonderful corner of the world.

All the best,

Peter
