Sounds like fun scotty glad he wasn’t hurt only pride getting old not fun
Good Afternoon Buppies,

Well Buppies, you did way better than Vermont temp wise ! It never made it to 20, close but no cigar ! My grandson had a ball sliding down the field in the south side of our property ! That is until he went into the briars at the bottom of the field ! 😉. Couple of scratches on his face but he is Ok ! With the cold temps, the snow was ultra fast ! I took one trip down on the tube and couldn’t get my fat butt out of the tube before it was too late ! It was a rough stop ! 😉😂

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 13.6C and it's presently 21.5C, lightly overcast & fairly calm.

Nothing planned for today except for the Dental appointment @ 1450. The antibiotics I've been taking since Friday have certainly 'done the trick'.

That's about it, take care all.

We used to sand the rust off the runners on our sleds, then wax them before sledding.
Did those of you that had all these marvelous sledding experiences ever do much "snow skating"?
Where I grew up in Vermont across the street from us was a farmfield with a wonderful hill that had about a 150 yard downhill run, 100 yards wide, ideal for sledding/tobogganing.
But the "pièce de résistance" was the rare times of late winter when conditions were such that there was thick snow cover, then a slight melt or maybe rain, and a quick freeze. This could result in a layer of ice thick enough for light people to skate on.
We would break out the skates after school and go skating on the hillsides. Hurt like heck if you hit a soft spot and broke through. And of course you could get going like a bat out of Hades. :)
I can only remember doing it about 3 times, but it was like bobsledding without the sled. And just as safe.

   / Good morning!!!! #204,024
Cant say i ever snow skated, but we used to go head first into briers that separated 2 fields, covering our faces, until we made a tunnel thru the briers out the other side, then extended the ride down the next hill. Would sled down onto the frozen pond then shift weight to try to spin in a circle on the ice. One long run, at the bottom we went over the edge into the frozen creek. We tore up some sleds, but we fixed them ourselves.

Good class tonight.

We got 2"-3" snow a couple weeks ago and I found this sled sitting in back of barn 50 years...so I rinsed it off enough so I could sit on it, then took it up to a fairly steep pasture for one last ride.
It has these levers on each side for steering that don't do anything, so downhill you hear me grunting trying to steer with my feet not wanting to drop off into our creek which would of hurt.

Good Evening
17° when I got up 33° now that it is dark, it’s falling quickly.

Yesterday’s gig went well, it was a private party at a winery, we got several inquiries about booking other events, which is usually a good sign.
We did have a guest performer-

IMG_7984.jpg

My grandson crashed the party and stole the show.

IMG_6214.jpg

But that pretty much consumed the day by the time we got loaded in and out. Not to mention I had to free a stuck brake caliper on the guitarist’s car.

Kept the 3D printer busy, it’s been running all day.

Making lots of useful stuff.

Today was back to cleaning up and getting rid of stuff. I watched some PA speakers and rack cases go way, every little bit helps to reduce the clutter.

I had to dig out a wheel chair and some other invalid equipment from the piles of stuff upstairs in the shop. My friends wife fell and broke her leg pretty badly, this is the second time in a few years, she had a stroke in between the falls, was recovering pretty well.

In 1981 I was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and told that if I continued my reckless lifestyle I wouldn't last all that long vertical. NO more sledding, forget skiing and zero skating.
I have always maintained that I might grow older but I will NEVER grow up.
To the guys that can still go sledding/tobogganing and skating, more power to you.
The most skating I did was to skate the 3 miles down and back on a small creek to a bay (Frenchmans Bay) on the north side of Lake Ontario. Come to Hwy 2 (two lanes paved) toe it across the highway and then skate under the 401 to the bay. My girlfriends' Dad wouldn't let her go that way and always gave her a ride down, then she skated home with me. It is a lot more fun skating with your sweetie at the end of your arm.

All these wonderful remembrances. Being a bit removed from today’s kids, granddaughter will be 19 next month, I have to wonder about kids having fun these days. Wintersksting, sledding, tobogganing, winter had as much fun as summer and I’d have to say parental/adult supervision was a rarity, but often greeted with, “Did you have a good time” when finally home. Didn’t fully realize at the time, but I guess by today’s standard we grow up on the poor side, just didn’t know it. Never had a new pair of skates, nor a new sled, but still never did without. Strange I guess. Seems if we needed (wanted) something it would usually appear, even if not new and it was exciting to get it in shape. Rusted sledrunner, sanded and waxed, you better. skates filed to get an edge, yup. Was growing up fun, you better. A funny aside, but I was oldest of 8 kids, next 2 younger brothers were close, but still our experiences varied greatly. Never learned to ski until stationed in Europe when in mid 30’s.

Coffee is brewing. 13° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 43° with cloudy skies. Worked on getting my camera bird feed up and working. Need to mount a solar panel next. Picked up roofing supplies to put a metal roof on my garage. 30 sheets of 12' long roofing and a bunch of trim. Will be my spring project with help from neighbor.
Have to keep a good watch when Sassy is outside.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
mighty cold, 19 out going to 38 in sun today, start of a slow warmup

in this town growing up there were two sledding hills, one the site of the new toll bridge, a place
called magill's hill, which I think kids still sled on, though likely not allowed. The other was a secret hill inside the
wildflower preserve this side of Bowman's Hill, where the hill was very steep, so you went down like a rocket, straight into woods.
if lucky, you made it through the woods and down to the stream there.

last sledding I've done was up at friend's cabin in Catskills. He has a mile long dirt road up to the cabin on side of mountain, and a few times we
could keep moving the entire way. Later on as we got older, the ATV would come out and haul all the kids back to the top with a long rope.
pretty sure one of my friend's kids lost a tooth on that hill, crashed into something.

when they start installing safety features on sleds, ???
nothing like a good old fashioned aluminum saucer, ours had quite a few dents in it.
today the early wooden Flexible Flyers are worth some money

sure is nice the sun is coming up earlier.

18 going to 47.

When the boys were younger, we'd clear the brush out at the bottom of the hill to make a great landing for sledding down our hill...There was one tree that was a problem if you didn't make the turn at the bottom, so I tied an old foam mattress around it...it really helped one time after a flip-over rolling crash...another time my son turned wrong and ended up breaking through the ice on the creek and got soaked and mad...claimed I gave him too fast a push. Our favorite thing was building a ski jump ramp of snow halfway down the trail and riding the sleds over them to get "air."

Good morning, the low is 8 and going up to 27°F. Wind SE 5 mph. 30% chance of flurries.

I guess IF I can get the car going, it will be going to the shop today for a new alternator AND serpentine belt. If you gotta take it half apart for the one, then you might as well do the other at the same time.

Time to get on with 'it'.

Have a safe day all

Good morning TBN!!
22 this morning going to the upper 50s under sun.
Nothing really yesterday. Wife went to do some shopping and the dog and I fended for ourselves.

I remember at about ten yo my neighbor had built a homemade sled outta wood. We had gone to a girl scout camp (I have 4 sisters) that had a fresh coating of snow. I got the sled to the top of the hill and decided I would take it on it's maiden voyage. Jumped on and down the fairly steep hill and was roaring along having a blast. Turns out the steering was nonexistent. Hit a tree head on. My Dad later said my eyes were going in different directions when he got to me. Definitely a concussion. Shook it off. :)
Not sure what I will get in to today but something I'm sure.

Time for a second cup and off to whatever.
Everyone have a great and safe day!!

We had one old pair of men’s ice skates, and my sister had skates. We made homemade hockey sticks, had 1 puck my oldest brother got in college, and we played 1 on 1 hockey on our pond. I couldn’t skate well, but managed to ice skate when I could never stand up on roller skates.

We used to invite friends to skate on our pond, we would build a big fire nearby to warm up.
So much fun in the 70s. We had some serious winters then.

Good Morning from Central Texas,
At 5:15am 63.9 degrees / 63.3 dew point. Forecast 78.

Another day of miscellaneous project "to-do's". I was able to do some re-stocking of the pond with fathead minnows (5 lbs) and green perch (50) the other day. It usually gets too late in the year when I remember and don't get it done. My contact did not have any pond fertilizer available yet.

The USAF operates the Advanced Airborne Command Post (AACP) Boeing E4-A/B aircraft as a National Emergency Operation Center "doomsday plane". The design is capable of staying airborne for a full week if needed. Advanced communications with EMP protection can carry to 108 people.

Good morning 65˚F heading to the mid 70s, S wind cloudy.

Perfect weekend for the "Farm" finally - sunny and the low 80s. With the tulip festival and the baby animals we had a bumper crowd - 5000 for the weekend. On my 5 hr. tractor shift yesterday I hauled 600 people, some of the trailers were full - 60 people.

The pic below does not give the tulip field justice. The best view was from the tractor road on the back side but I couldn't stop for the pic because I never had an empty trailer. At least you can see the photo opps the finished windmill, the baby grand piano and the bicycle. I was finally able to take this pic after closing.
