The SS United States is somewhere off the Delaware coast now, being towed to the Gulf where it will be sunk and then entertain fish and divers
for years to come.
I thought it was interesting they decided to close traffic on the two largest bridges to avoid looky lou accidents.
for over ten years I would take my boats down the Delaware River to tour the sights of Philadelphia.
And the SS United States was always part of that, you could get up pretty close with your boat.
The SS United States was on PA side, and across the River was the USS NJ.
the battleship New Jersey was simply awesome to see from the water.

good they moved this ship out before it sank at the dock.
I remember when the stacks really were red
then it became a floating pigeon poop rusty mess

The tree damage is just one section there is more across the front road side. Going up the mountain behind the house some very large trees down and there huge popular lost some limbs. Tree experts say Civil War era tree.

Low temperature today of 14.2 presently 19.3 maybe 40 today.

There will be at least one more cold blast with snow possibly. Spring probably stormy not seeing much on summer yet.

Nice work Ron, interesting Spike and makes sense.

Throttle sensor on ram acting up but DOF cleaning is getting back to normal instead of 3 times cleaning per tank of fuel. Archoil appears to be the real deal.

Not sure what we will do today still hobbled by psychotic nerve but getting better.

Interesting about George Washington wngsprd.

Morning Thomas

Morning mostly

Safe travels RNG

Thanks BEF

Prayers for all our Country

Good Morning
21° and the sun is out. High of 37 predicted.

Yesterday started in the tractor clearing an inch of snow off the lane. It was worthwhile, it was bare dry blacktop by lunchtime. Cleaned up around the shop with a pusher type shovel, it was faster than moving all the vehicles and using the tractor.
Did some puttering in the shop, sorted out a mystery of change gears on my lathe. The parts list showed a part number and a 48t gear, but Jet showed that part number as a 42t. I was on the phone with them for an hour, but they were very helpful. The parts person actually searched their system for a 48t gear for ant application, then physically measured it to make sure it was dimensionally the same as the change gear I was looking for. Turns out they had the gear that I needed, but it was for a different application in their system.

Did some cleaning and moving to be ready for when the DRO arrives this coming week, and I have to move the lathe.

Not much else happened, good night with the band, we figured out what we wanted to play next weekend, we are booked for a private party at a winery. Worked through some arrangements for a few things, we’re ready to go.

Not sure about today, might fly to lunch, might be in the shop, probably have to load grain into the barn, we will see what the day brings.

Got a lot of use out of a pair of Roll-a-Lifts and a toe jack this last move, Paul, working mostly single handedly. This pry bar was very handy for the first and last inch. What's your rig for moving heavy equipment?

Drew where is marina in Chesapeake Bay they call the Walmart or Buckees of Marinas. Shops repair shops I just cannot remember the name.
I don't know, been a while.
but three largest marinas on Chesapeake, I've been in all of them, are
Herrington Harbour below Annapolis
Chesapeake Harbour in Annapolis
Mears Point Marina in Kent Narrows near rt 50 bridge

took some comfort food to my sick SIL and then picked up half a peck of apples at local orchard.
they are sweet and ok, but clearly showing their age. I think the other local orchard might have a better keeping variety.
gets to be slim pickings this time of year

I use Johnson bars and pipes a lot. I have multiple overhead hoists on trollies as well, but they don’t reach everywhere, including where the lathe is.
The arsenal includes hi lift jacks, porta powers, pallet jack, hydraulic shop crane, heavy duty dollies, and a good selection of prybars.

Morning all, 29 going to 40 and sunny.
Got over to HD and picked up the last trim piece for the garage.

I still hand file my saw chains, works for me and easy to see if the rakers need a trim

Have a few trees a little ways off the drive which are still in the process of coming down.
Wish they would hurry some.

65°F and no rain

Pretty good day yesterday. Got a 2nd tilling of Canada Dave’s garden area. He’s been adding amendments and compost from the mushroom farm

I got 1st tilling of the 2nd Laupāhoehoe area done. This was the area I broke the lift rod. Significantly more rocks in this area. Now move to Hilo end.

Neighbor coming down this morning to attempt separating a Scag axel.

George, my concrete guys turns 90 on Wed. A small celebration for him this afternoon at our local park.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I have a crow and a pry bar. And two chains and a rope. I am living on the edge...the back can go anytime. LOL.

If you can get the bottom of the V's down in the gutter but still have room for the lower gutter run you'll likely be good. The only issue is that those cables can not touch or make contact with the other run.
Thanks, Lou. Good to know. 👍

Good morning, the low is 6 and going to a high of 19°F. Wind NNW 13 gusting to 23 mph. Light snow. None so far.

A warning for anyone that has a canvas/fabric portable shelter...they do NOT handle snow load well, not even the alpine shelters. I told the neighbour lady that she should clean off her shelter roof BEFORE it caved in. She argued that it was self cleaning. (I learned long ago never to bother arguing with this woman.) If you don't want to listen to experience, there is nothing I can do for you.
The shelter collapsed yesterday.

I think the rabbit hole is calling again today.

Have a safe day all
LOL. I had one sitting on the dock that I thought was very sturdy, because the corners were metal and the roof had a nice metal structure with fiberglass type panels. Nope. I tries to keep the snow off of it and then missed it for a couple weeks and it collapsed! ($1,000 down the drain.)

Next time I’m building one out of Lumber, complete with trusses, and shingles. Will build the roof to spec for the snow load up there at the cottage, and the four corner posts will be made out of 6 x 6 pressure-treated lumber and will sit directly on top of the 6 x 6 cribs.

Morning all, 17 going to 27 and sunny

Will be getting a call from hospice nurse about dad, looks like it may be time
Prayers for your dad and your family.

Son coming today with granddaughter...DIL went to Colorado to go snowshoeing with her best friend. We will likely get a good hike in the mountains.
Enjoy your hike with son!

Happy Birthday George Washington! Should be a national holiday. Used to be.

Here's a little tidbit about him...Contrary to popular belief, George Washington's dentures were not made of wood. They were crafted from various materials, including human and animal teeth, ivory, and metal.

A few of his quotes...
- "If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
- "To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace."
- "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."
Old George was a smart man. Glad he did not get killed in Revolutionary War. Could have been a total different outcome. I guess they could soak their fake teeth in whiskey or something to keep the bacteria down.

Son is getting over earache, Flu B and strep. Middle daughter has strep now. Keeping an eye out for her ear. Both have "the crud".

Son has tennis tourney Monday and track meet on Thursday.

Work has been busy. We are interviewing 4 candidates for our Dept. Head of our department of the college of engineering. 1 candidate from Nepal, 1 from Turkey, 1 from Greece, and the other is an American. They are all highly qualified. Have heard from the first 3, the American presents this week. They all have done much research and published many papers. I'm looking for a "people person", but I'm just a blip on the radar. I'm told if I write in a reply with reasons, the uppity ups will read it.

Crummy weather 30F at dawn with wintry precipitation. Looks like much warmer days ahead. Hopefully you guys up north will get a break.

Popgadget, we bought a hydraulic toe jack and 4 skates for moving a 14" lathe for cheaper than a moving company would charge to do it. Maybe less than $400. Our skates have urethane wheels, would prefer steel, but we did not want to scar up our urethane floor paint.

Grok 3 beta is out for free, if anyone needs AI to answer questions. I asked about the 2032 asteroid's chance of hitting the earth. NASA's latest says 0.3% chance. Will have to monitor it for some time to get better predictions. Says it is a "city killer" not a planet killer.

Wife is cooking up a big pot of cream of chicken soup for today. Still 34F outside.

Good (Sunday) morning. Overnight Low was a mild 19.1C and it's presently dipped down to 18.7C. But it's early in the morning and predicted to reach 27C this arvo. Right now it's overcast, calm and raining.

Nothing to report from yesterday. As per usual, I'm off to Church (leading a Morning Prayer service) in about a half hour and then the rest of the day is His.

That's about it, take care all.

Changed oil in car.
Last check of level, happened to notice oil fill lid not on. Couldn’t find it. Took little hatch off under engine, took front plastic piece off. After over an hour of looking with flashlight, caught a small glimpse of it, couldn’t contort my arm to reach it from between radiator and engine, and was able to reach up in the small hatch hole and get it with fingertips. What a pain. Not exactly a small thing to lose.
