Remember making lard. Our job butchering was to cut the fat into squares, that was then cooked in the big kettles. We would get several lard cans full, seems like a lard can held 3-4 gallon or more.

just spent the last two hours doing all my reservations for the way out to California in August.
got everything booked
last two stops before I get there are double nights, so I built in some padding if I get slowed down.
I gave preference to places I could make online reservations

closer to August I'll make the reservations for the trip home.

hope you all have a good evening, I have run out of steam

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.1C and it's presently 15.2C, lightly overcast & calm. (Edit: I checked my rain gauge this arvo as the Aerodrome reported having a wee bit of rain overnight = sure enough, there was 0.3mm in the gauge)

Had a power-outage last night (@ 1735); received a text message from "TasNetworks" 5 minutes later to specifically say that they were investigating the outage effecting my road. Power back on @ 1810. I was quite pleased with the notification and prompt service

It's 'into town' day for a script at the Chemist and then grocery shopping.

That's about it (and that's OK), take care all.

Sorry … but the “gun culture” doesn’t only encompass competitive shooting and hunting game for sport.

Both totally legitimate things BTW.

It includes Hollywood’s glorification of violence and the gun, minority gangbangers, and violent ideological radicals … like the guy who suicided himself by cop after trying some target practice at that FBI office down near Cincy …

Lack of news coverage ?

There is no lack of news that I can see … it was covered both nationally and locally.

Of course it didn’t make the 11 o’clock news here last night … since it happened after midnight.
IMO, it is not fair to use a broad brush and call it "gun culture". There are at least 3 different "cultures" when it comes to guns. These can all be broken down into even smaller subsets...

There are law breakers, I call these counter culture vultures, who have learned that they can extort, steal, murder and kill their way to money. They often don't have real jobs, and sell dope and steal for money. And now we have District Attorneys who let them off to go and rampage the village. They need to go to jail for life, or get the death penalty. I wish the press would stop blaming society for their woes. They are the real problem in America with their gang culture. We need more jails.

Then there are law abiders, most who carry to protect themselves from the above, and for hunting.

Then we have flat out crazy people....that shouldn't be carrying....

Please don't yank my post Moss. This is not a political rant.
Good afternoon to the Good Morning!!!! crew; still in Orcutt, CA.
64F @ 1:45PM. Partly cloudy. High 68F. Winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph. Higher wind gusts possible.

Just a thought about the ECU, David. If it is a heat related problem, and you can get it to stick in the failed mode, try shooting it with some compressed air or a CO2 fire extinguisher to cool it off. If that gets it going again, see if there are components inside the ECU box mounted on heat sinks. If so, there's a good chance the heat sink compound has dried out and is no longer working. Take the two pieces apart, clean them, and apply new heat sink paste.

Not sure about this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an image size limit imposed here on TBM. It only takes a few hundred thousand killobytes to display a handsome photo on the web, and posting megabyte files is a huge waste of server space and network bandwidth, both of which cost TBN money.

It was a nice weekend here. Overcast in the morning with fog all day along parts of the coast. Got some shopping out of the way on Saturday, then on Sunday a buddy showed me some favorite motorcycle roads. The old Zebra bike ran well with the new rectifier in place, but the new helmet is noisier than the old one. Sounds like there's an air leak around the shield, so that needs some looking into. Had dinner and overnighted at my friend's place, but they were up most of it with intestinal distress. I got out of there as soon as I could this morning, and am keeping my fingers crossed I keep feeling fine.

Finished unpacking the van this morning, and will get some photos shot and posted for more items I need to sell. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
I was wondering how the old zebra bike was doing. Glad she's still percolating.

The free range Peahen had left for a few days, and she came back yesterday. Wifey and I are neutral on whether she stays or not, but kids are glad she came back.

Really hot down here with feels like near 112. Heat warnings issued. I have 1 room at work that stay cool, (I can adjust the stat where I want it). I'm finding myself spending more time in there.

Prayers for our team.

Got everything on my list done today except I just mowed 1.5 yards the other half yard did not seem important enough to mow with air temp at 102˚F and heat index at 112˚F. Also squeezed some time in for some paper work for the title company and return some light bulbs to Costco. The real estate agent picked up the desk and I put handles on the pool return baskets. Changed the light bulbs and A/C filters in the attic but too hot to put moved attic stuff back in attic. No time for pool plunge.

Coffee is cooling in cup. 64° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 79° with rain and thunderstorms in afternoon. Got barn organized to get mowers and Mule out of pole barn while while concrete is curing at other door. Then hand mixed concrete and poured and leveled at door entrance. Enjoyed rest of the day on porch. Found out I was out of Ice Cream. That will be on top of my plans for today.

68 going to 84 and humid. Had a storm last night and probably more today. But looking good Friday and even back to mid 50s Friday night.

Kyle, good to hear from you and agree 100%. Hope family is well.

Ken, sounds like you could write a tour guide for Japan.

Got much of the string trimming and mowing done to beat the rain. Fixed a few squeaky hinges around the house...I never realized how loud they were until I was trying to be extra silent while Della napped...it's so important that she get her beauty rest :) (actually, it's important that I get an uninterrupted hour to catch up on chores).

   / Good morning!!!! #191,435
Good morning, the low is 64 and going to a high of 88°F. Wind SE 7 mph. 30% chance of showers.
When the temps get upwards of 80° plus, the clothes come off and stay off.

I am in the process of preparing the 2' x 20' section under the SE living room window for concrete.I don't have gutters mainly because when in winter the snow and ice load comes off the steel roof and tears the gutters down. So I am putting concrete blocks and concrete space between the wall and the drip line off the roof. The blocks will be set in place on their flat side and angled towards the lawn, so that any water coming off the roof will splash away from the house. Currently there are a lot of dead grass and weeds which I soaked real good with 7% pickling vinegar and a second dose last evening with 5% vinegar. I did that under the kitchen window and it has worked out great.

You guys stay safe

70 outside right now, heading to lower 80's.

Most of yesterday occupied with day jobs and tractor in the pastures. Trying to beat the rains.

More rains any minute now and throughout the day. Sigh.

Will need to torch the burn pile soon. Weather is cooperating for that.

Neighbor called, possible rabid racoon. Was hanging out most of day around her house, acting weird. Finally went up tree by house. Other neighbor decided to shoot it. Now there is a dead possible rabid racoon wedged thirty feet up in her tree. Cannot make this stuff up.

Hope all have a great day, be safe.

Good Morning
62° with a high of 80 on tap. Another dry sunny day after the fog burns off, and until this evenings thunderstorms.

Yesterday followed the plan. I’ve got an enclosed trailer filled to the brim with Creat Heat panels, a successful Costco run, got out for just under $200. Added a HD run and a trip to the restaurant to drill and tap a steel door frame to reinstall the bracket for a hydraulic closer. 3 out of 4 screws were broken off in the original location.

Today I’ll get the plumbing and conduit under the slab finished, so the stone can be finish graded and compacted.

   / Good morning!!!! #191,440
62F partly cloudy sky mid 80's for high.

Outside chores done E muffin time. :)
Plans for today...AM trip to town for trimmer part and critter food, one of riding mowers need blades sharpen 🙄 than good washing,PM depends on temp and humidity.

Enjoy your day all.
