I hope your walk was sublime!

I started gettin floaters when I was in my 20s. Very tiny, barely Noticeable, but not unnoticeable…

FF>> 30 years, and they are quite annoying when trying to swat a mosquito when the room lights are off and just the TV is on…🤬

I cant think of any benefits to the county if they give away the property tax levy on the solar farm.
exactly.
Thinking about diverse opinions..
If someone posts something you find disagreeable to extent you want to comment, just PM them directly. You can make your point with each other without involving everyone else.
I could see this to try and respectfully explain one's self. But it can get out of hand quickly OTOH.
How much forest/arable farmland needs to be chopped down to build it?
That's just it. The land around here is decent for farming or ranching. There's plenty of crap land due west. Almost like the badlands of Dakotas IMO.

-1°F and cloudy this morning, and got up to 10 whole degrees today. We're getting some more nuisance snow right now, but not enough to cover anything completely.

I noticed over the weekend that the pond fountain looked like it was struggling a bit to get through the ice forming around the spout. It usually sprays a nice cone about seven or eight feet high, but was only getting to about two or three feet in an asymmetrical shape. So, we turned it off. By last night, the pond was completely frozen over. Temps like this aren't unheard of here, and they typically don't last too long. I'm always glad to see them go when they do, though. We're almost 30° below normal temps for this time of year.

But hey, we're still not International Falls cold.

There's a local story here in the STL area about a municipality thinking about leasing out several unused acres of a cemetery for a solar energy farm as a way to help raise revenues for maintaining the cemetery and other city-owned properties. Jeez ... can't get away from those things even when you die.

Hope everyone is well.

Good evening, gents.

Good evening all. 7ºF for the start, windchill -8ºF, clear sky, breezy. Moderate wind with brisk gust, and high temp was 24ºF. Started coffee and insert (ash clean and uncover coals) first, then moved on to getting checks ready to pay bills. January bills paid, on to club membership dues. Keeping room humidifier running, pan on insert and fire in insert going. Made calls to refill prescriptions get copies of estate documentation and wanted to make appointment for annual physical, office was closed for MLK day, also need to talk about Covid testing to see if I caught it from last week. No nap today, and made sloppy joes for dinner, and they weren't bad. Pipes had frozen south end of house last night, one thawed at 3 AM, the other one at 6 AM. Nothing frozen yet tonight. Last single digit low tonight, then temp moderating to more normal before cold reestablishes itself and 3 days of rain.

my only close encounter with a bear was in my truck bumper at 50mph
I got me one with the Freightliner outside Quetico Park. Just clipped it with the bumper on the right side. The Freightliner had a real bumper made out of steel.
I'm not going anywhere, shovel inside, warm hat and gloves ready.
If you were to leave your shovel outside, then the snow wont stick to it.
The snow squalls continue. I plowed today and as of 5 P.M. you couldn't tell that I had plowed at all.

22° now highs in the upper 20’s winds NNE 5-10 mph. Snow through this evening 3-5” is what the guessers are calling for.

No idea what is in store for today, maybe look through the growing stack of seed catalogs and watch the snow come down.

Enjoy your day everyone
Stay safe and healthy

29 and got about 3 inches of snow. A little freezing rain just passed by. Going up to 35 before dropping to 9F tonight. Birds going nuts at the feeders when the snow started.

Missing Ron already.

Mostly, sorry your pipes froze. Hope no damage.

Got a hike completed to the river and finished just before the snow started.

good morning all
25 degrees out, only about an inch of snow out there, appears to be coming down this morning but I doubt much.
So no snowblower, will just push my shovel.
Bill, thanks for reminding me about the shovel. I wear gloves anyway so if it works better cold, so be it.
I'll stick it back outside to cool off...
no rush to get out there
cleaning lady supposedly coming at 9:30; need to clear a path by then.

wrote a nice note to cleaning lady's boss terminating the cleaning service.
just overkill for this little cottage and now that I have plenty of time on my hands, might as well do it myself.
takes all of two hours to clean this place and I have to redo parts I want done differently.
That is an issue because nice Hispanic lady speaks no English. Cleaning service started out with a Polish lady with a big accent but
I could communicate with her. Can't with the lady who speaks only Spanish or whatever.
and then I get the head shake indicating understanding when clearly she doesn't understand anything I say. Which I find out when what I asked for
doesn't get done.

I'm going to sound like an old fashioned grump here ,but I have no sympathy for this lady losing the job.
This is the United States of America and we speak English here as a primary language. It is not my job as an employer to learn
a second language, though I picked up some Spanish lingo dealing with farm workers in NC.
I told the employer my story of my grandfather coming through Ellis Island in 1901. What was most important to him was that he become a
good citizen and speak the language well. He did, and flourished. Every community school around here provides English as a second language classes.
There is no barrier to learning the language here. And what's worse, when the Hispanics all get together, they don't speak English, they revert to native tongue. I get that, but how do you learn without practice?

I guess everyone expects there to be an app for this.
Probably should not move to Texas, though we all know that whole area was Spain first...
is there a big difference between Mexican folks speaking their version of Spanish and the Euro Spanish?

why should I have to go to school to learn a language instead of them?
The reality is if you want a house cleaner, or a person to mulch your gardens, or someone to pick your crops,
you are faced with this constantly.

No lo comprendo

btw, if I moved to Mexico, I would hold myself to the same standards. Learn the language.
If I moved North, that would be easy.
Just put ehh? in front of everything.... :giggle:
except in Quebec I guess.

am enjoying my Christmas Peet's coffee. Wish it didn't cost 15 bucks a pound at store.
I'm sure the coffee itself is better but likely fresh grinding it helps too.
but I'm always dropping coffee beans on the kitchen floor...ping, tick tick tick tick
where did it go....

have a good day gentlemen, no slips or falls

Good Morning TBN GM thread. This thread has been here for over 12 years. Some of us were original posters. Have stayed here for all theses years. Why have we stayed here. Well for me it has been a great place to post my pictures and post my daily activities and experiences. Then read what others are doing and planning. I assume new members find the thread and see what is being posted and discussed. Then join the group. We welcome them with opens arms. Lately some have joined the group and posting information that has underlying implication. Politics and Religon post never result in good outcome in a mixed opinion group.
Enough said on that.
Besides my post yesterday. I also REPORTED the chart to Admin. It is still there. So do not expect that to help option with off topic post.
Post can always be EDITED to correct spelling and other errors.
Post can also be DELETE. I have deleted post that are weeks old when I posted in wrong thread.
Using GOOD POST 👍 is a great option. But only gives good option. I never hit this button unless it is a thumbs up post.
Like I already stated. People watch and join this thread because they like what they see and read. Let’s keep it that way.

Good morning, the low is 12 and going to a high of 18°F. Wind S 8 mph. Snow squalls continuing. 10" to plow today. Turned block heater on a few minutes ago.
Yesterday I scraped the driveway right down to dirt and gave the upper part (near the house) a lick and a promise.

two-bit, I am inclined to agree with you. We pay for these things through our taxes at least twice.

When it comes to driving in winter on snow covered roads, I don't care if it is 1/16" or 16", if you don't have snow tires on the vehicle then stay at home or at the very least leave the vehicle at home. There is zero excuse for not having them. There is also zero excuse for not learning how to drive in the snow. I don't care if you lived on the equator most of your life and moved to North Dakota, learn how to handle your vehicle in snow. It isn't rocket science.

Rant over, have a safe day all

26 this morning high of 33 today still sitting at 4 inches of snow. Deer running around looking for food Mrs bushes on menu. Not sure if I will clean driveway or not. Feeling somewhat better stuffed up head chest clear

Bill, not a rant, just darn good advice. Tires are everything, 4wd and AWD secondary.
when I chose the tires for my car, they had to be "snowflake" rated. Not true snow tires, but at least
not regular street tires.

As a previous local fireman that had to go out in any weather, the worst actually, most of us ran traditional snow tires
in the winter here. But.....we don't seem to have much snow any more. And being retired, I don't have to go out there.
Just wait and don't create a nuisance or danger by driving.

I have a fond memory of just this, circa 1972, working as underwriter for Travelers in Washington DC, was in DC for an appt when snow
came. When leaving, I remember seeing a huge stretch black limo with some country's flags on the front corners coming down Massachusetts Ave
absolutely sideways. I believe it was an African nation's embassy. It's dangerous enough driving near DC in the rain, but add snow, oh my.
