My dad owned (leased) a gas station in 1967-70. I worked there during my junior and senior years in high school (1967-68). Gas was generally 19-20 cents a gallon and dropped to 17 cents during "gas wars". The price was set by the supplier most of the time. Starting around 1969-70 I saw gas move to 25 cents then all heck let loose. You were lucky to find gas at any price by 1972. I owned a VW Bug, so gas went a long way. The best place to find gas back then was at a Fina station. I remember it being 60-70 cents.

Bill, you are ahead of everyone on your holiday lights, but I guess it gets mighty cold there early.
May Santa bring you a fully loaded 379
Those aren't 'holiday' lights. They are indicator lights to show me when the block heaters are on.
there is no reason for it to cost this much except for greed.

a fair price for the fuel oil ought to be around 3 dollars a gallon. The current profit level of our refineries is obscene. great stocks to own, big paybacks to investors.
We need a glut of oil some how, drive the cost down, and not send so much to China and elsewhere.
2nd and 3rd world demand for fuel ever increasing, we are all competing for world resources.

super cheap oil is no bargain either. Look at Venezuela. whole country has economically collapsed.

there is cost per barrel and cost per gallon. Whole lot of games played to get from one to the other.
I'd be happy at 3 bucks a gallon.

which I guess sounds laughable to David in Hawaii or to our Canadian friends
who seem to get taxed on fuel even more.

we started off in campfires with gathered wood we found to keep warm.
looks like we are still hunting for the best fuel.

for four bucks a gallon, what else could I use? Two buck Chuck?
not sure my Beckett burner would digest left over cooking oil well...
3 bux a gallon is half what we pay if I convert my Litres into gallons. We get taxed up the ying yang for fuel, cigarettes and booze. The supposed 'sin' taxes.

I think history needs to repeat itself as far as the politicians in Canada go anyway.
Nuff said

Interesting that today the women of Island are on strike and not going to work or taking care of the home and children and leaving it to the men to keep it running advocating for equal pay and rights.
Did you mean "Ireland"? "Iceland"?

was looking at google maps to see what was two farms over, and this
gem popped up. Three very bright ladies running an animal therapy farm, with specialties in
autism, a sensory barn and two therapeutic donkeys named Elvis and Moon.
Sounds like a very rewarding thing to do.
I sure don't want to spook Elvis with the drone...

70°F and no rain. Forecast says we may get lucky.

Meeting scheduled with our financial planner this morning. Actually rescheduled from last week when he had an unplanned dental emergency. Probably more of a social call as we had reviewed most everything by email. Just need to confirm tweak to granddaughters account.

Need to spend some time in the tool shop. Disorganization reigns again.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Chaos reigns at the homestead.

Never set foot on the continent of Africa. Is on the to-do list. Mt. Kilimanjaro, would like to summit.

The last two days I have been harvesting walnuts, so far over 400 pounds worth. Even managed to give a 50lb bag away to some unsuspecting individual.

Hope all are well.

4th grade, Middletown, CT (1955/6?). 2 stations on the street we lived had a gas war. Remember my Dad being ecstatic when it went to 9 cents. Didn’t last long.

And then 1966, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS, I can remember myself and 3 friends scrounging for change so we could put $.25 gas in my Corvair and get a bottle of Thunderbird to share on the beach.

Back home from Mom's 100th birthday celebration in FL. It was great. We are so blessed. Not too many 65-75 yr olds (5 kids) have both of their parents who are 95 and 100 yrs old. First time we were all together in 15 years. It was a very special visit.
but it feels good to be back home on the ranch.
Congratulations to your mom.

Kyle, I feel or hear your pain. I am sure mine is not as bad as you describe. I 'hear' crickets in the far distance frequently. Sometimes I actually don't hear them. I guess when they get close enough I will have to do something. I was foolish and did not wear hearing protection when I was young and shooting guns much more than now. I stress it to everyone to wear it now.
I have tinnitus also. Usually don’t notice it. Sometimes louder than at other times. I think it’s blood pressure related.
