Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #178,401
Good (Sunday) morning. Overnight Low of 0.2C and it's presently 7.4C, clear and calm. Looks to be a repeat of yesterday.

As usual, I'm off to Church in about a half hour and then the rest of the day is His.

Tomorrow (and for the rest of the week) I'll be, hopefully, 'reporting in' in the evenings of my day.

That's about it, take care all.

So sorry Gale

Ditto.

Glad you are posting rswya.

Thanks.

Still have much to do before winter hits so my posts may be somewhat limited until it gets really cold outside.

Have you ever tried fine blade grass

Not sure that I have ever purchased any to sow.

Last time I bought grass seed (before this time) I bought two different mixes (one for sun and one for shade) from Copley Feed and Supply. No idea what they were particularly, but I'd suspect a blend ... probably fescues plus others.

I do have some areas in the lawn that do have very fine blade grass growing ... mainly adjacent to the areas I just seeded. That area is at the bottom of the front lawn and has a little less sun ... so it tends to stay wetter ... which is probably why that particular grass has thrived there and taken over.

It tends to be slow and low growing ... resembles what you'd find on a putting green on a golf course.

It's extremely dense and thick ... to the point of nearly choking out the weeds.

If I had had to guess it's probably some kind of bentgrass ... although it might be a fine fescue of some variety.

we much prefer it here called southern lawn extreme

One of the reasons I like tall fescue is that it stands up well to traffic which we have a lot of, running the Kubota and Cub over the lawn while doing maintenance and planting tasks.

Did not get around to spraying for weeds this year.

There are areas of the lawn that really need it bad ... probably 75% weeds by surface area.

Wanted to do that before overseeing but likely will not get to either before next year.

Still, I'm not complaining ... the lawn is pretty thick (weeds and all) - something I attribute to all the rain we got during mid summer.

Typically by August the (unwatered) lawn has gone into summer dormancy, growth has stopped and things are starting to brown. That didn't happen this year.

Closest local personal weather station (about 1 mile away) reported that they got >28.5" in August alone. Not sure how accurate that is, but it sure seemed like we got a lot.

Precipitation totals @ CAK (around 5 miles away) as reported by NOAA for May and June were low (1.68" and 2.39" respectively (average would be 4.13" and 4.43") with July about average (4.13") and August above @ 6.80" ... which is actually about double the normal.

Yearly average rainfall here is around 41.5". Through September NOAA reports 30.53" @ CAK.

So we're not overly wet on the year ... but we got a decent amount of rainfall mid summer ... which really helped to keep things green and growing.

.44” rain today. Son and I headed south in the rain, hit sunshine as we hit I81 in Winchester. Beautiful rest of the day. Went to the lot, without a mower in tow. Grass not to bad. Changed batteries in the cell camera and it started sending again. First time my youngest has seen the lot.
With weeds dying down I could see better up where I want the cabin. About 20 ft level bench on the slope. With some dozer or excavator work think it will be nice spot for the cabin.
Wish I had my bush hog to take down there.
Then we went on part of Blue Ridge Parkway. Visited a spot we were at in 2003 and tried to reproduce the picture.
Was a nice day.

Got a short hike in. Lol
Hit 160,000 on the Subaru on the return trip. It still has original brakes. My right calf was burning from using the brakes on the steep twisty road coming down off the BRParkway.

I was reading an article on ***** approving money to build more walls in Texas.
will remember Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall! all my life.

just depressing it looks like a wall is needed. The situation at the Southern border keeps getting worse.
And what about all those folks/families piling up on the Mexican side?
Must be creating real problems for border Mexican towns and cities.
lines and lines of folks coming North, most it seems men, off to get into the promised land.

wouldn't we do this for our families too?
I think of my grandfather coming over in 1901, seeing the Statue of Liberty.
All he thought about was being a good citizen.
You learned the language, you paid your taxes, you finally got your own home.
Hopefully you sent your kids off to college, where you never went.

in my grandfather's time, flush with money from the sale of A&B Butter in Newark, NJ, to Borden,
he had a new home built in Newark. I've been there.
Then he lost almost all his money in 1929, being a good citizen he invested in the market just like other smart people

this idea of being a good citizen really intrigues me. It was drummed into me by my parents.
Seems to be too much what's in it for me versus what can I bring to the common good.
being a good citizen means you speak the language fluently, you vote, you pay your taxes, you volunteer in your community and you obey the laws.
whether you are single or married, hetero or other, white or any color of the rainbow, believe in Jesus or any other deity you want, or none at all,
you still can be a good citizen.
And should be.

I'm not sure our youth understands this.
anyone who works totally for cash and doesn't file an income tax sure understands it all too well.
The only fair way is for everyone to contribute, do their fair share.
My lunch was never free. My parents worked hard for the 35 cents to buy it at school.

Western Germany had a lot of problems dealing with Eastern Germany when the Wall came down.
The have nots descended on the haves.
Way it has always been.
I'm all up for have nots who are good citizens.

back to tractors
What occurred on Ellis Islan a hundred years ago, and what is happening in Texas/Arizona/California today, are not the same thing.

We're in between rain showers, so been outside doing a few things. 63 going to 67. Could see 39 or 40F tomorrow night.

Kyle, good luck fixing up the Yaris.

Scott, have they removed those staples, yet? I had one stuck, and it felt like the doc was pulling my whole scalp off...others came out easy.

check, can you get those jet skis out on the water just one more time? Would be fun going leaf peeking on those.

Worked on fixing up some chimney issues, and decided to build a rain cap. Ran out of time before cleaning the chimney and woodstove pipe, but can start that once the rain stops and I've roasted some coffee.
Yep. I will definitely be out on the Sea-Doos again before we get them out of the water. I now have three of them, and only two trailers, so I’m going to have to break down and buy another single trailer. Meanwhile, I’ll be tooting over to the rental property to check things out on the Sea-Doo.

I am selling one of the Sea-Doos, since I can only use two, so, if anyone is interested, let me know!
