Ditto.
Glad you are posting rswya.
Thanks.
Still have much to do before winter hits so my posts may be somewhat limited until it gets really cold outside.
Have you ever tried fine blade grass
Not sure that I have ever purchased any to sow.
Last time I bought grass seed (before this time) I bought two different mixes (one for sun and one for shade) from Copley Feed and Supply. No idea what they were particularly, but I'd suspect a blend ... probably fescues plus others.
I do have some areas in the lawn that do have very fine blade grass growing ... mainly adjacent to the areas I just seeded. That area is at the bottom of the front lawn and has a little less sun ... so it tends to stay wetter ... which is probably why that particular grass has thrived there and taken over.
It tends to be slow and low growing ... resembles what you'd find on a putting green on a golf course.
It's extremely dense and thick ... to the point of nearly choking out the weeds.
If I had had to guess it's probably some kind of bentgrass ... although it might be a fine fescue of some variety.
we much prefer it here called southern lawn extreme
One of the reasons I like tall fescue is that it stands up well to traffic which we have a lot of, running the Kubota and Cub over the lawn while doing maintenance and planting tasks.
Did not get around to spraying for weeds this year.
There are areas of the lawn that really need it bad ... probably 75% weeds by surface area.
Wanted to do that before overseeing but likely will not get to either before next year.
Still, I'm not complaining ... the lawn is pretty thick (weeds and all) - something I attribute to all the rain we got during mid summer.
Typically by August the (unwatered) lawn has gone into summer dormancy, growth has stopped and things are starting to brown. That didn't happen this year.
Closest local personal weather station (about 1 mile away) reported that they got >28.5" in August alone. Not sure how accurate that is, but it sure seemed like we got a lot.
Precipitation totals @ CAK (around 5 miles away) as reported by NOAA for May and June were low (1.68" and 2.39" respectively (average would be 4.13" and 4.43") with July about average (4.13") and August above @ 6.80" ... which is actually about double the normal.
Yearly average rainfall here is around 41.5". Through September NOAA reports 30.53" @ CAK.
So we're not overly wet on the year ... but we got a decent amount of rainfall mid summer ... which really helped to keep things green and growing.
