It felt plenty hot yesterday even though it only got into the high 80s. I ran up to the farm to drop some stuff at the barn and to check on a dead tree that fell across the lane. The farmer and his crew are really getting it. By 10 all the big bales were gone and they were almost finished planting soy beans. I got the dead tree cut and off the trail. I have to decide what to do with the wood. The neighbor who does firewood told me he has emphysema and lung cancer. Cigarettes.. I hope the Doctors can help him. The grass looks really good and is growing like crazy. You never know what a year will bring.

Have a peaceful day

Chris

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly…).

62.2F going to low 80s, afternoon T-storms one the menu.

trup to woodlot yesterday was fairly productive. Mrs ran out all five batteries on the line trimmer and had about 18” of line left in the head. I did almost four hours away time and cleared probably about 500’ of new trails. They need to be leveled, but they are now open and reasonable walkable if you are careful. I stopped working on one when I hit a white-face ground hornet nest, but was able to spot that immediately and advanced in the opposite direction before appearing on enemy targeting radar…

rest of day was deck time until late afternoon t-storms rolled through, then made sure couched didn’t float away.

Lunch at mom’s after church (corned beef and cabbage), the see how weather is and maybe a quick trip to woodlot to plant some more seeds (running out of room in the garden 😁👍) and possibly assess aforementioned hornet nest for eradication. Mainly looking for my approach and elision avenues…

i hope everyone has a happy healthy safe productive blessed day!

SNIP....The grass looks really good and is growing like crazy. You never know what a year will bring.

Have a peaceful day

Chris

We never do know what it will be.

In the Rocky Mountains this is a cool wet summer. It came late and still not hot. Temperature in the high 40s in the morning most of the time. Can get up in the 70s during the day. Jacket in the morning except in the sun. The sun is real intense at higher altitude. We have been getting lots of afternoon and nightime rain.

Never have seen the grass so thick and high. We are seeing plants bloom and types of grasses that are new to me even after a lifetime here. Everyone comments on how few birds and insects there are this year.

Most years the summer is earlier, dryer and warmer.

70 outside this AM. Overcast and grey. May touch 80 later, way better than 90's.

Yesterday was long. Weed whacking...ugh..more this AM. Need to run to the local hardware store, need supplies and wood. I actually ran out of wood and screws for my various building projects. Really.

Wife and daughter ran out shopping yesterday, found my beer and brought home food. I was in clean up/pickup mode in the Milk House and a t-Storm decided to dump rain on me. Can you believe I was trapped in there for like ten minutes? Could not get to beer or food. It was awful. LOL.

Think today will rest easy. Too much stress and the body needs to recover. Still have the drainage ditch to do. And with that gully washer yesterday, I imagine in two to three days I will be cutting grass again.

Belated Birthday wishes to the recent crew.

Hope all have a fine day.

The attached Euro-Hornet nestings for wngsprd. One little hole. LOL.

Southern California weather has been ideal after an unusually wet winter. 50-60º AM to 70-80º high.
Only a couple of 100 degree days so far... that's probably a record for July.
Mowed the neighbors weeds again, then mine. Plenty of seat time yesterday and a bit more weed abatement on schedule today, mowing and scraping.

65F, damp, and cloudy @ 07:15, DP 64F, HU 94%, AQI 51. Heading up to around 76F with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. Clearing to partly cloudy later. Pretty cool for this time of year.

Early afternoon yesterday we went to the Ohio Veterans Memorial Park for the bench dedication service for our neighbor who passed last year from prostate cancer.

It was well attended and he got a good send-off, including a 21 gun salute ... a testament to the man that he was.

Probably good for friends and extended family, as there had been no funeral ... in keeping with his wishes. RIP Jeff.

After that we came back to the house and I dropped The Woman off and headed out to pick up Drew at the campground.

Since he had mentioned cheap gas, I suspected that it might have been out at the Meijer's out in the Tallmadge/Kent area since it often has some of the cheapest gas in the area.

Since the tank was almost empty, I swung in to see and sure enough $2.89/gallon so I filled up and headed on ... (y)

When I got to the campground, Drew gave me a quick tour of his RV - which seemed pretty plush to me ... after traveling all over the US and Canada hauling expedited freight and living in the front half of a Sprinter van for a number of years.

Took the scenic route back to the house on the back roads down through Hartville to kind of give him the flavor of our area.

I think by the time we hit the driveway it was starting to sprinkle ... so after a little visit at the house we opted to not try and fight Nature trying to grill during a potential downpour and headed out to a local Mexican place we've been pretty happy with.

Got spend some quality time there visiting and then a little tour around town before heading back to the campground in time for curfew.

We had a great time, although our time together was way too short. But we were very happy he was able to stop by and visit on his way through the area.

Once we got back home we had some pie - both cherry and rhubarb - which were delicious.

Woman hit the rack shortly after that as She was tired. I stayed up until the fireworks quit booming, probably around 22:00.

About the time I was heading to bed She was back up (often the case), not sure how long She stayed up ... but She's still in the sack ... ;)

Not sure what all will be on the agenda today, as it seems pretty wet outside.

Bird feeders need refilled I'm sure.

It seems like the sun is trying to peek through ... so that holds some possibilities.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday ... (y)

Good morning! 78˚F heading to 100˚, plenty of blinding sun and no rain. Rain total for June was .67" and nothing in July.

Weekend driving to reunion and to 106 birthday party totaled 11 hours. Too much sitting.

3 consecutive days of using 95% of water supply will trigger our town's next stage of water restrictions, which includes no lawn watering or car washing, so far only one day @ 95% but other days are 93% & 94%.

Drove from north central Iowa to Elkhart Indiana on Friday, to pick up a new trailer axle for the SIL's pontoon boat. Good drive, up until I got near Chicago. Traffic on I-80 around there (especially on a Friday afternoon) is just nuts. Oh yeah, construction season is on (almost year round it seems). Once I got on the Indiana toll road, it was fine. Toll from the west entry to Elkhart, was $16.60; toll going back west (same route) was only $5.60... Didn't ask why.

Stayed at a buddy's place in Crown Point. Traffic all around there sucked, also. They're building all sorts of new houses, town homes, etc, but don't seem interested in expanding the road system at all. They somehow expect the same small two lane roads (with NO left turn lane at stop lights!) they had thirty years ago, to accept the huge increase in traffic.

We DID go to the antique tractor show at the fairgrounds on Sat morning. Been to that one a bunch, but it was still kinda fun.

Boy, am I glad I left that area when I retired. Glad to be back home...

Calling for an inch of rain, yesterday rain wasn't enough to register but lots of lightning last night.
Tinicum art fest was fun but crowded.

Gas still above $4 for mid grade here

Got some more blackberries, tomatoes starting to look good.
