73F and cloudy @ 11:30, calling for a high of 84F with the possibility of thunderstorms developing this afternoon. AQI = 63.
We just had a torrential downpour about 1/2 hour ago ... not certain how much rain we actually got but the closest personal weather station (< 1 mile) is reporting 3.62" ...
Then next closest station is reporting 0.98" ... don't see a flood coursing down through the yard, so I suspect something in between those amounts. But it was a lot of rain in a very short period of time ... so things will be well-watered here for quite some period of time. Grass and weeds will be growing like mad ...
Woman and I are both in recovery mode today.
She finished weeding the row of asparagus yesterday and we got another 7 tomato plants put in the ground for a grand total of 9 ... so far:
There's still another 6 to go ... they are the yellow low-acid ones ... which I really love.
Also got the last rhubarb planted. The established rhubarb is looking very good. Might be enough for a pie ...
I ran out to the Kubota dealer's late afternoon to take a break from the heat and humidity and pick up the hydraulic dipstick. When he brought the part out I knew I had screwed up: it didn't include the o-rings ...
He hooked me up with two different sizes of o-rings, one of which will hopefully work. If not, he'll get the correct ones ordered.
On the way back I stopped at Dunkin' and picked up a couple of iced coffees then stopped by the local garden center and grabbed a bale of straw for mulch which The Woman had mentioned She wanted.
Also got another 5 or 6 buckets of screened compost hauled down to the garden to level out some low spots. Unfortunately did not get all of that spread out and tamped down ... so it's likely to be a mess after the rain.
Put up a fence with step-in posts and 40 lb monofilament line at two levels before we knocked off. Also put a line that had cans attached at the ends sitting a pair of 5 gallon buckets with the line sitting in forked sticks about 20" off the ground, idea being deer will walk into the line - which they can't see - and react to hitting the line and/or knock the cans off the buckets making a racket which they won't like, being nervous creatures and all.
As of this morning all the plants were undisturbed, although I did see a squirrel venturing out from the woods to scope things out.
Got 1 of the new Swamp Milkweeds potted and watered-in last night before I knocked off yesterday, 2 more of those to do today ... along with the 3 Butterfly Weeds. And more strawberries.
Also noticed yesterday that the one entry hole right next to the house that I had filled with used cat litter had been dug out and cleared again ...
That one is going to get a smoke bomb put into it today and then sealed back up ...
Not sure what all on the agenda for today, most likely will be an inside day.
Woman wants a hand with some house cleaning so there's that ... plus hopper and suet feeders need refilled.
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday ...
