Got windows washed. Cleaned up tools and took them down into cellar. There on the shelves at bottom of stairs was the bottle of window cleaner. I looked there 10 times yesterday. I call it tunnel vision.

my own velcro...one reason I almost always wear a hat outside.
having problems with neighbor's cat coming over and sitting near my birdfeeders.
I shoo him away and he comes back, or lives under my motorhome.
I've been trying to get him with the garden hose.
have no idea if we have a leash law here for cats

Good morning all. Just figured out how to get on Wifi at sis's house. 73 here(near Forest Park, STL) going to 91, but I will be in Clinton this afternoon. Uneventful trip here, except for bad wreck north of Mcallister, OK. Helicopter sitting in road to evac victims, all 4 lanes blocked. Sat for 20 minutes, then smooth sailing rest of way. Family coming soon for visit then I depart

52 going past 70 under sunny skies, another dry day.
Yesterday was overcast all day and actually got an unmeasurable amount of rain. More like walking in the fog than a rain.
But it was a very productive day. Got the little plane finished up, got all the beds cleaned up and mulched (with considerable hires help), and worked on converting a model from glow fuel to electric. That required making a motor mount from scratch. I roughed up a proof of concept, and it turned out crude, but effective, so I’m gonna use it.
The trick was to replace this-

It should be the equivalent power and swing the same size or larger prop.
Today I’m going to try to finish that project up and see what other trouble I can get into.

Pretty fancy chicken digs, Paul. Will more exercise lead to more egg production?
Proof that there is a parallel universe, Ron, and that items being searched for sometimes migrate between the two...
Pretty sure I've finished weed whacking for the season, but there are still plenty of weeds left to whack. Just not where I can see them from the house. I need to get some glyphosate sprayed, but I think I can wait on that for a few days. While it's cool this morning, I want to get started on replacing the gate post anchor.
Finished screening white vans yesterday, and ended up finding only one that met all the must haves. But it was the more expensive 3500 version, with no LED headlights or swivel seats. And it's in Massachusetts. Not up for a cross country trip, or paying for shipping. Looking through the other colors, there's another dark gray one like the one with the banged up roof. Two grand more, but with a lot more options. Also more nanny features, like lane departure and blind spot and cross path detection, but with some nice-to-haves like a leather wrapped steering wheel, wood floor and sound deadening paneling in the cargo area. Also some stupid silly stuff, like a pair of extra key fobs, remote start, and cargo bay assist handles, good money makers for the dealer. But they've already dropped the price well under MSRP, and it's in Portland, a mere one day motorcycle ride away. The salesman says it's on the lot, and we're playing phone tag to get more info.

Morning all, 50 going up to 75 and sunny, not calling for rain for another week, very dry. Had lots of lightning last night, but no rain.
Took son out to celebrate new job and first day complete.
Found out my father just completely messed up his return schedule, told my brother he would be staying with them this weekend and had already told my Uncle to pick him up at airport yesterday a few weeks back, not sure how he thought he could be in NY and CA at the same time. Even worse, had to hear an earful from sister in law,
Did get out and move around some of the fallen tree trunks and branches, I need to be careful back there, still some standing dead ash and lots of gullies and washouts that are not easy to see. I do a dry run first to find a path and then go back and grab the logs. Most of them cut to <6' but moved some longer heavier ones. Little Massey did fine.
Drew - snipping tool allows you to edit, hightlight on pictures easily and google maps allows you to pin locations in the PC world. Also MS paint to edit, lots more tools than Apple, but then you have to learn more tools. I work on both and still prefer windows, though both are thugs when it comes to updates and changes.
Do it there way or use a pad and pencil

Ron- always find what you are looking for the day after you buy a new one. Currently I can't find my electrical wire and my bicycle chain lube, found the little baby powder I usually use when I change tubes/tires an hour after we finished my kids bike tire change and he was already on the road.
PopGadget - what are those plants? I used to have them at my first house and have not seen them around here. Planting area came out really nice.
RNG - good luck with the van shopping, maybe this will be the one.
I need to go weedwhack a bit and kid is off to attend a friends concert and sell tshirts for them, he gets paid a t-shirt for the work.

Last night's bean and sausage "glop" turned out really well. Wifey and I will be eating it for a while this week.
It was a raw, breezy, and cloudy 44ºF for this morning’s low temperature. There have been some breaks in the cloud deck and brief periods of sunshine so far this morning. The current temperature is 52ºF and I do not believe that it will be getting much warmer today, and I might see a rain shower or 2 this afternoon.
Excepting snow management the older I get the less tolerant I am for working outdoors in less than pleasant weather conditions with the only exception being photographing wildlife. Today looks to be an indoor activity day; like focusing on domestic duties

Drew, is it your yard waste? Maybe make a simple 3 sided compost area? Maybe a row of forsythia in front of it?
Paul, beautiful landscape bed! The mulch is nice.... wish there was a supplier out here with mulch like that.....
I have been considering converting a Kadet Senior to electric. It currently has a Saito 4 stoke on it... I think I would miss the 4 stroke sound....

69F and sunny @ 10:00, heading up to around 83F for the day's high supposedly according to WU.
OTOH, WeatherBug says the day's high will be 78F. Like that one a little better.
In fact, WB says highs will range from 71F to 78F through this coming Friday ... which sounds just about perfect to me.
Only downside: Akron annual rainfall is now officially in deficit (-0.11") as of last night ... and no decent chances for rain until this coming Sunday ...
Got a shower and shave yesterday afternoon and put on some good duds and ran down to ACE, picked up a couple more seed packets of corn and a small (56 oz) watering can which I prefer to use when watering small plants. One for the front/indoors and one for the back.
Swung by the local garden center which is run by a girl I went to school with, think she was a year or so later ... a bit of a character. She had all sorts of veggie plants and they looked pretty good and I thought reasonably priced (about $20/flat or $1.97 for a four pack)
Picked up two flats: cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, eggplant, some tomatoes (Woman had already brought 3 tomato plants, and those are looking good), and peppers. The peppers ended up being the majority of it - probably close to a flat by themselves.
Was surprised to see that She had both flats of sweet corn and beans already started. Have never seen that before.
At any rate, after I got back I gathered up some pots into the dump cart with seeds planted in them which hadn't yet come up and took those around back.
By that time the cold front was moving through and it had cooled off and was quite pleasant outside.
So I started repotting the pepper plants in the flats, ended got 19 of those done + 4 Big Boy tomatoes. Took the tomatoes around back. Left some of the peppers out front on top of the Weber grill moved the rest inside the garage for the night, along with what was left in the flats. Looks like what I left outside made it through the night undamaged.
Two flats is a lot of plants BTW ... lol.
Coffee just finished brewing ...
And I just let the downstairs cat upstairs to be fed. This practice was strictly verboten under the previous regime ... mainly because they couldn't tolerate the inevitable spats with the upstairs occupants that would ensue.
My theory is that after a few initial dustups, things will settle down and the pecking order will sort itself out ... and there will be relative peace and harmony. We're about to find out whether that will actually work out in practice. So far, other than a couple of distressed yowls upon sighting of the intruder, all has been quiet.
Don't think I'll be leaving downstairs cat upstairs once I go outside though ... don't need any unnecessary vet bills.
Agenda for today:
Water plants in pots.
Work on potting more plants from the flats.
Start on getting asparagus planted.
Get some more spraying done, wind permitting.
In the upcoming days there are a couple of tasks that are on the agenda now that it looks like things are going to be a little cooler.
1. Get garden plot tilled and the landscape fabric laid down.
2. Use the Stihl pole saw to trim away the lower branches on the large Japanese yew at the southeast corner of the house. This yew is huge - probably 15' tall - and there are multiple entrances to the ground hog burrows around the base. Need to be able to get in there to block off the entrance holes before deploy the smoke bombs.
3. Harvest a number of large(er) black locust tree to use for posts for the electric fencing around the garden. Reluctant to set anything out lest the wildlife destroy them. Need at least four - but six or eight would be even better. And they need to at least 12' long. Will have to see what's available.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday ...

I've been pretty happy with the quality of the stuff I've gotten from them so far. To the point that I went ahead and placed another order the other day. A fact which I'm sure will get me a "You're In Big Trouble Mister" ! in the coming days ...
The King Kong strawberries looked fantastic when I got them and the price was great IIRC. To the point that I wish I had ordered more.
Asparagus I just got looks good too.
We typically don't have literature in the loo ... but I'm thinking sticking a Burgess catalog in there might be a great idea ...

that was plenty of exercise for me.

Dinner was good, albeit frustrating. New menu, price increases and 3% up charge for using credit card, and the suggested Tip guidelines have increased. The Guess we will be eating there less often, not more.

Went up the woodlot with Mrs, left dogs home.
did a bit of last-minute branch and root debris pickup with the excavator, then used the excavator to lift the Ferguson Two-Disc plow and the undetermined-parentage 20-disc harrow from behind where the grading contractor blocked them in with a pile of large rocks… then fired up the old Case 430 and got to work.
Plowed the plot in three directions (L2R, diagonal L2R, diagonal R2L). ROOTS EVERYWHERE! Which was no great surprise. Then switched to the harrow, and repeated the process, busting up all the solid clods and even crudely raking some of the larger roots to the edges. Finally, I hitched up a small potato plow to make some furrows. They aren’t great, but they are there.
Plants can finally go in— YAY!!!
I did notice a good deal of water vapor discharge from the oil fill vent cap, but the radiator was full, and the crankcase oil was clean (maybe two hours since oil/filter change?). Here is the hood after operating for about 2-1/2 hours:
nice clear water, definitely not coolant. Tractor lives in an enclosed (but well-ventilated) building. Any thoughts? the last two days have been on the humid side, but would that cause this?
