38F and partly cloudy @ 10:45, heading up to around 52F for the high.
Went to bed around 19:00 last night, slept real good ... didn't get up until just a little before 09:00.
Was up for better than 24 hours prior.
Did not go up to shop Friday night, instead watch a movie with The Woman and then fiddle-farted around after She went to bed.
Did get up to the shop early Saturday and got the front and rear trunnion and yoke washed off with water and dish soap, then got all the contact cement removed, and scrubbed all three pieces down in the parts washer before I left to pick up the metal enclosure around 11:00. It was a mess:
Interesting story there on picking up the metal box.
Noticed when I pulled into the driveway that there was a very large electrical disconnect switch on the side of the garage. Big.
When I went up to the door a very nice young man answered and invited me into the garage - which was fairly cluttered - where he had the metal box sitting out. Said he and his father were in the middle of trying to repair either the washer or dishwasher - don't recall which exactly - and he didn't catch my text that I had arrived (I had to go up to the door and knock)
Got a look at the inventory of boxes which was pretty extensive, maybe has another 5 or 6 large ones.
He asked what I was going to do with it and I explained that I was restoring a Delta Unisaw that I had a three phase motor and since we didn't have three phase, it needed to a VFD to convert single phase to three phase.
None of that seemed to register with him, but on the way out I noticed a pair of jointer/planers - one of which was a fairly large (4' long) Delta of similar vintage as the Unisaw I am working on and I commented on it. And he said something to the effect of
"Is the saw you're working on as big as this one ?"
I explained that yes, it was similar in size but that it was actually a
table saw while this thing there in the garage was a
jointer/planer. He confessed that he was not much into woodworking himself, but had an older brother that was.
Then he mentioned that his father - who is apparently suffering from Cerebral Palsy - had been a cabinet maker.
At that point I looked around the garage a little closer and lo and behold, there towards the back was 60's/70's vintage Unisaw, tucked up against the wall and I commented that what I was working on was just like that, only a little newer.
He knew it as a "Rockwell" (which it was ...
a Delta Rockwell) so my comments on working on a Delta Unisaw didn't register with him.
What are the odds ? ...
After I left there I headed over to Menards, which was fairly close, and picked up my special order of some Plano storage cases, and grabbed the correct cover for 220v outlet and the 2-gang box.
By the time I got out there, the sky was looking pretty nasty ... a Severe Thunderstorm had been issued just before I went inside and it had come through while I was in there, just grazing us ...
Roads were a real mess all the way home, with lots of downed branches calling for evasive maneuvers.
About a mile from the house there was a large tree that had been blown over blocking Route 93 (Manchester Road) and I had to back track and detour to get home.
I ended up heading back up to the shop for a little bit after I got back and did a little more work up there.
Found a piece of 11 gauge sheet whose thickness was a good match for the steel on the saw base (within 0.001" ...
) and got that cut to length on the bandsaw. May try to get that welded on today.
It will have to be heated, bent, and formed to match the base after it's welded on ... which should be interesting ...
Beyond that I did get a little straightening up and organizing done before I threw in the towel and came on down to the house.
By that point the temperature was dropping like a rock and I was tired anyways. Actually had ice pellets hitting the car as I drove back down to the house.
Did get the t-strip edging and some double-sided laminate tape which is supposed to work with UHMW ordered from Amazon. Those will be in on Tuesday.
Need to get the feeders filled up today.
Daffodils are all blooming (finally) and the forsythia has started as well.
