Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #163,443
a most interesting afternoon looking at a potential money pit.
Of course all rv's and boats are...to some degree.

did not go on test drive. It started to rain and I want a ride when it's dry out and I can hear better.
My BIL and his son and I all crawled under the motorhome. Only surface rust, no drips under engine or trans, much drier under there
then expected. Small weeping at rear main seal, but not bad. All suspension airbags looked fine, auto leveler worked great, and then....
first slide went out fine. Bedroom slide, wang , bang, crunch , bang. Oh boy, slide is clearly needing major repair, possibly a stripped gear or tooth.
Owner had to horse it around to come in. No.

inside of rv looked ok, worn but not tired, passenger seat cushion ripped and repaired terribly, looked awful. Seat cover would fix it all; sure did not show nicely.
And the gen would not stay on; we think a plugged fuel filter.

that was enough for me to be clear with the guy he needed to fix this stuff or no one would buy it without really beating him to death on the price.
And only rv places know how to fix slides. So I told him I was a serious buyer IF he fixed the slide, fixed the gen, and replaced the 8 month expired PA inspection sticker.

he is headed back to Florida for two weeks, and I'm headed to FL this week, too, so we agreed to talk again in about three weeks.
I gave him a hundred bucks to hold it, a handshake deal. He's about half a mile from my Quaker Meeting....he knows I'm local and pretty sure he doesn't want problems.
Plus he can afford to fix it. So when I get back from Florida, perhaps second try will work.

tried to visit a friend near there who wasn't answering his phone or emails. Stopped by their house, saw his wife out walking with another lady, asked her how Michael was and she
said not good at all, in ICU, covid, blood in lungs, needs lots of prayers. Geez.....I just knew something was wrong. Big heavy guy with lots of health risk factors.

lot of rain coming through, all through the night and tomorrow too. Could be lots of snow North of here.

Good Afternoon
It’s 36 and raining, just a miserable day to be outside.

Yesterday’s trip was interesting. The runway in Concord was snow cover over ice, so we diverted to Manchester. Looked like a winter wonderland when we went out to eat.

When we got to breakfast my copilot ordered this-
IMG_0827.jpg

Fried chicken with cinnamon caramel sauce over waffles and hash brown potatoes. I told him that with that diet I’d be surprised if he makes it to my age (more than twice his), he laughed.

Went to breakfast this morning with youngest son and his bride, daughter, daughter in law and grandson. Had a good breakfast, ran into local fire chief, and we took grandson for a fire house tour, which he loved.

Other than shlepping bags of feed into the barn, that was about all I got done today, but I’m not complaining.

Drew, that motorhome looks like an interesting adventure, and possibly a great deal after you debug it.

Hopefully PJ is just working hard at the new job and doesn’t have time to post. He mainly posted from work previously.

Yesterday the song “free electric band” popped into my head, so I found it on YouTube. A one hit wonder from the 70s. Course music made me wonder about PJ.
Yeah, it's both fortunate and unfortunate that I had so much underutilized time at that job; unfortunate that they consciously chose not to follow the quality path, and yet fortunate in that I was able to engage in some fine banter with you gentlemen here on a daily basis. I really miss that part. But, I'm so busy at the new job from the moment I walk in the door that the days just fly by at a frightening pace. Long, but productive hours. It's a much more satisfying work experience than I've had in over a decade.

I must say, BEF, that I don't remember that song. Just listened to it on YouTube, and it certainly mirrors a good portion of my own story. May have to put that one on the list to cover at some point.

You may want to look into the Storyteller vans for off road camping without having the drone of a generator.

Thanks for the thought, but I didn't pay as much as that for my first house! 😂

"Storyteller's MODE to come in at $149,748, and the Beast MODE to come in at $189,743." 😂:rolleyes:

Good late (Monday) arvo. Overnight Low of 16C and it's presently 22.2C, mostly cloudy and somewhat calm. There was 14.0mm in the gauge at 0900... and lots more rain throughout the today.

Yesterday's soiree was a success and, other than almost burning my house down, no dramas occurred. My pulled-pork was a triumph.

Today was spent returning (after a 'waste' dump) the port-a-loo to the Council Depot, a run to the tip to dispose of the party's trash, the charred carcass of the lamb and a couple of fire extinguishers. After returning a borrowed garbage bin I stopped off and bought replacement extinguishers.

That's about it, take care all.

Coffee is brewing. 27° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33° with cloudy skies. Ended up getting about 2" of snow yesterday. I stayed in all day. Spent some time updating Mesh Wi-Fi. Adding names to the 25 item that show up on my network. Need to clear walkways today. That should be enough outdoors for today.
Looking up.

31F with light snow @ 13:30, calling for a high of around 36F for the day. Looks like we got a few inches overnight:

(awaiting problem with uploading images to be fixed :()

Definitely a far cry from what it was yesterday, glad I got the feeders filled. A couple of pictures of that fallen ash from when I was out there doing that:

(awaiting problem with uploading images to be fixed :()

Woman opted not to make the run to the grocery store yesterday, sounds like She is regretting that now today.

So I got all cleaned and gussied up and we headed out for the Big Date Night ... down at Menards ...

Woman wanted to know what I had up my sleeve, as I had put on really nice clothes ...

Backstory on that is that when I'm working and running out to the store for something I rarely care what I look like or how I'm dressed. I'll wear rags as long as the holes aren't too big and there isn't anything hanging out. Drives her nuts.

So She "suspected something was up".

Truth was I was just getting one more wear out of the jeans and shirt I had worn out to dinner the week before before I tossed them in the dirty clothes to be washed.

Got everything we went for ... including a stick of mahogany, red oak, and maple. Also got a couple items that weren't really on the list: pantry moth traps and some bug traps for house plants that I spotted.

After we left Menards, I suggested we head over to Alladin's Eatery - a restaurant we spotted last week when we went out for relatives birthday dinner - and She was game.

Glad we did.

Turns out it was a chain of Lebanese restaurants that was started 1994 in Lakewood, OH and has expanded throughout the Midwest and Southeast.

On the way over, I suggested that once we got there, we order an appetizer and look over the menu while deciding whether we wanted to eat in or just get take out and go home.

We ordered some kibbe to start, which She decided She really liked and we decided to just go ahead and stay for dinner.

I got the Alladin's Favorite Combo plate which had kafta, shish kabob, and shish tawook, and She got Chicken Sambusek plate ... which She really liked as well. Even cleaned up her entire plate ... which is something that almost never happens.

We ordered a piece of Turtle Cheesecake to take with us for desert, which was good ... but not quite as good as the cheesecake we had at Bonefish Grill the week before.

Turns out this place had been there since 2014 and we had never noticed it ... probably due to poor signage illumination.

Think we'll definitely be heading back at some point in the future, looking forward to trying their Baba Gannouj next time.

All in all, a great trip with lots of laughs.

Got the DVD player hooked up after we got home and watched the 2nd Harry Potter movie ... after I gave the disc a quick cleaning with some rubbing alcohol.

After that She went to bed but I ended up staying up to the wee hours scoping out YouTube's on router tables and doing a little research on those.

Agenda for the rest of the day today:

Dig out the new razor blades and get Her started on cleaning tiles off.

Fire up the torpedo heater out in the garage and cut up the wood for the holder for the Forstner bits and maybe get that glued up.

Finish cleaning off the router table and take further stock of what needs to be done to get that refurbbed. Looks like the top panel on the back needs replaced, along with the top itself.

Clean out the bottom of the cavity in the wall where I removed the tile and wallboard.

See what we have in the way of thinset and grout.

Maybe take another stab at removing those stubborn seats in the tub/shower valve. Thinking about ordering a drill chuck with adapters that would allow it to be used on the battery-operated impact and/or my 3/8 drive butterfly impact. I could then cut the seat wrench so it could be chucked up and used.

The seats are only brass ... so would need to go easy on them to avoid tearing them.

More research to do on that.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday ... (y)
PB Blaster is decent, Kroil is Better IMO but hard to find. A 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF is one of the best penetrating lubes you can use - read it in one of the many horrid mags back in the day, they did a reasonably-scientific test with a bunch of bolts from the same box into holes threaded into a single piece of 1/4” steel , soaked it in (IIRC) sea water and let it sit for a month, then used various penetrants and a torque wrench to measure the necessary force. The 50/50 was right behind some aerospace-industrial product and equivalent to Kroil.

One quiche got baked, this time I added chunks of breakfast link sausage to the mix, I think it is pretty good. i added the chunks raw, and the only downside is you don’t get that nice carmelization on the sausages, but the juices all stay in the quiche for added richness. Made the crust with a 60/40 mix of butter and coconut oil (the variety that is mostly-solid at room temperature, not liquid), and it came out really nice and flaky, far superior to the last crust. Tonight I need to pickle those egfs I hard boiled the other day - I finally peeled them last night while the quiche was baking. Next quiche will be broccoli, cheddar, and bacon. I just have to decide if I am going to render the bacon a bit first or fine-dice and put in uncooked for extra greasiness?

Good Morning, Snowing with big flakes but no accumulation 32 going to 49 today. Walked Cody and he was all covered in snow.

Our At&t cell phone tower is still in outage. Got another credit on the bill and promises of service today. But so far nothing.

Will work some more on health care premium reimbursements. One of the websites not responding.

May look into whole house surge protector. Not sure our utility offer that.

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

38F, gained all night.

I have to clean the chimney. I lit a fire in the stovw to chase the dampness, because the heat pump system is adequate, and that’s the best I can say about it. Kindling starts, close the door/open the damper, sit down on the sofa. Around ten minutes later, Mrs says “what is that smell?”. I go look at the stove, and it looks like a 1970’s tv screen — and the tv is OFF. Solid grey smoke. I do outside, zero discharge from the chimney. A wee bit of smoke is coming from the cold air intake elbow - not good. So I open the door a crack and dense smoke rolls out. slam it shut, grab the fire extinguisher and blast it because there’s no point at that point. . .

I guess that after not running it for several days because it was reasonably temperate here, hard soot buildup popped off with the temperature variations and obstructed the vent on the stove. I was hoping to avoid a mid-season cleaning of the chimney but I guess I should have done it after New Years Day like I normally do. . . So much for THAT. . .

Brunch was good, one of our regular places. Upscale rustic/trendy “cabin chic” vibe, a bit pricey but good portions and EXCELLENT quality. New server - needs to be more attentive to coffee levels, First time we had to flag down someone for refills - normally you can’t drink it fast enough. . . But otherwise a nice outing.

Quiche got baked, mushroom/spinach/onion/garlic/sausage.
Hardboiled eggs got peeled, but not pickled - that will be tonight.

We have been watching James May’s (Top Gear/Grand Tour) travelogues. Quirky but very entertaining armchair tourism. Japan was excellent, working on Italy now.

The plan for work today is to go back to my experimental method of early last week and bang out perfect jobs, no matter how slowly they get done. The daily morning corporate spam email always either starts or concludes with “Remember: 100% Accuracy is more important than speed!” So that is what I will do. Nothing pisses management off more than giving them exactly what they say they want. The worst part is that I want things to work properly and smoothly and efficiently and with minimal problems, probably more than management does (otherwise they would fix the problems ). I can’t help it if I keep finding the problems - if I don’t speak up, I am perpetuating the problems. Now, if I could just express myself without the Jersey coming out. . . these genteel Southerners don’t seem to handle it too well 🤣😂🤣😂

I hope everyone has a wonderful, healthy, productive happy blessed day!

38, still some drizzle, but may get some sunshine later. And Wind.

Kilroy, I'd like to eat some of your quiche, but wouldn't want to read the Nutrition Label 😁.

Pop, that was quite the breakfast your friend had. Cute photos of grandson. He is receiving a great exposure to tractors, planes and now fire trucks.

Roasted coffee yesterday...was too wet to do much outside, but went for a short hike in the rain.

BEF, the nice lady that shuttled me last week sent me the Shen500 spreadsheet...used by hikers to track their hiking of all of Shenandoah National Park's 500+ (513.9) miles of trails. I told her I had not been able to get to it, because I wasn't on facebook. I started entering my hikes into it from my logbook...quite an undertaking since they split many hikes into short sections...such as the AT's 107 miles is split into 54 hiking sections. Good thing is all you have to do is enter the hiked date and it keeps a running tally of hiked miles and miles to go. I think I'm gonna go for it.

What is this “nutrition label” you speak of?

i make it in a 14” deep-dish pizza pan. So a serving size of “one slice” is perfectly satisfying.
