Good morning to all! Low of 23°, only going up to 33°. A few snow flurries this morning. Wind advisory with gusts up to 45 mph expected until this evening.

Snow, rain, sleet, graupel, .....a mix of everything yesterday. But, that's a good thing.... hardly any snow left and over a 1/2" of rain in the gauge. Wish it was more, but anything helps.

RNG, I absolutely hear you and the logic behind it. I was determined to move from here and 'start over', finding the perfect "slice of heaven". Until I realized how much work would be involved. Then the mere fact of how much it would cost. We could do it, but wondered how much we would benefit from doing so.

Then, having an RV changed the thought process. Keeping everything we have built, everything paid for, everything made by our hand, to our specific liking. We decided to use our homestead as 'home base' and use the funds for travel. To take $100K just for infrastructure on a new property.... well, that's a lot of travel!
You have a very hard decision to make.......

I might try to get out into the shop today.... I hear some metal calling out to me. It's wishful thinking..... I have an appointment in town, so not really any time to do much. Another appt. with the ortho surgeon tomorrow will eat up most of tomorrow too....

It' hump day.... not that it really matters (BEF -hint, hint)

Everyone enjoy the day!

Good Morning - currently 59° going to 66°

RNG - good luck on your decision & Ron beat me to asking about moving out of CA..It's a big country..

not much going on today, just waiting to get through the next couple months before live ag shows start back up..I know the kids are ready to start showing animals again..

It is getting closer to wife's surgery next week..

Hope everyone has a great day..

67°F and .05 inches rain. Not a lot and just persistent enough to stop work, but every little bit appreciated.

Off to Hilo town this morning. Sophie has her ophthalmologist appointment. Good news would be appreciated. Been a long haul, over three years.

Then some in town errands. Hoping I can pick up aluminum angle for my solar rack.

Wx forecast like yesterday but maybe I can get more bracing installed.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Having an RV was part of my plan, too, and see how that worked out?

I still want a home base, but here I can't be sure I'll even be able to get back to it if they evacuate the area for another fire. Or even be here, as home could be reduced to ashes, as my friend's home was while they were camping in Death Valley.

The Mexican place is ok. Worth a repeat trip. Right next to my pharmacy where I almost forgot I need to pick up a couple prescriptions.

This place has been many different restaurants over the years. A Burger King for years, Chinese, diner, now Mexican. Inside looks like an old Roy Rogers.

Now to Costco.

No rain so it was a morning of trail work in the county park. Found an old trailer and tv someone had dumped probably decades ago.

38F and cloudy @ 15:00, heading up to around 40F for the high for the day.

Yesterday did not develop quite like I expected it to.

Woman wanted some (unspecified) help here at the house so I didn't make it up to the shop.

Then She got tied up yakking on the phone.

I noticed that the drip on the bathtub faucet in the main bathroom was going pretty good so I collected up a variety of tools and started working on that.

Used the 20 volt B & D Impact to remove the 3 screws holding for the hot, cold, and shower diverter knobs on, 2 unscrewed, the 3rd snapped off ... 🤬

Squirted the knobs down with PB blaster (probably should have done that first ... :giggle:)

Then I headed down into the basement to track down the supply valves for the main bath. Located those and was successful in freeing those up.

Decided while I was down there to tackle the supply valves for the kitchen and laundry room while I was at it. Was successful with freeing up those as well ... (y)

Came back upstairs and checked to make sure the water was off in both places (it was)

Then started working on removing the knobs on the tub/shower, eventually managed to get one off (cold water) after considerable banging with a wood stick and large HF screwdriver. Also got the cover trim and escutcheon removed.

After I got that done I put that one back together so the shower could be used while the Blaster soaked in on the others.

At some point in all this I had to stop and hunt up a YouTube video explaining how to replace the valve seals and seats for The Woman ... after I got the ... "OMIGAWD ... WHAT ARE YOU DOING ? ..."

Any sort of plumbing work and the prospect of water being shut off tends to make Her extremely nervous ...

Of course, what gets shown on the video doesn't include all the work (over time) that was actually required to get the valves taken apart.

Also got the packing nuts loosened on the supply valves to the washing machine. Tried to move the valve stems themselves but no joy so I sprayed those down with Blaster as well.

Also got the platform put back on the scaffolding in the living room and the DVD player pulled out of the old tv stand and put on the new tv stand.

We have 3 tv's in the living room: the (newer) 55" 4K Vizio which we use, an old JVC CRT (which isn't hooked up but still works) and an older large flatscreen (1080) which doesn't work sitting on a love seat. Need to get those moved out of there and and get at least the non-working unit disposed of.

Did not get any feeders filled ... so that's on the menu for today.

Also need to go up and get my large crescent wrench out of the shop for the plumbing job.

Dole out meds for this coming week.

Probably get back into working on leaky faucet in the main bathroom after that.

Some of the items for the dust collection system ordered from Amazon are "out for delivery". Looks like the rest of the stuff will be coming in between now and Saturday.

Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday ... (y)

Another over $200 Costco bill. Wife messed me up on self checkout. First she put her purse down on the tray and the computer got confused on number of items. Then when I was about to scan the last item she started removing items from the tray to put in cart, before the computer was ready and this time it froze and I had to wait for the attendant.
Part of the higher cost was because they finally got the mobile 1 oil in stock that I needed, and on sale. Got 3 cases of 6 qts. Still over $5 a qt.

Water in fridge again in the bottom drawer and under it. I suspect from the water filter, but it’s all dry and it would first leak into top of the pullout crisper doors before it could run down to the lower section, and it’s all dry there. So no idea where it’s from. I did order new filter.
Order oil filter for Honda and Subaru, latter needs changed. Maybe tomorrow.
Still need water softener fixed. It’s full of water again where the float is shutting it off, so has to be seal under the motor plate.
Just ordered seal kit for every seal under the rotating plate on softener, figure if I take it apart might as well do all of them.

had a very fun long visit with childhood friend in Lederach, they got some crab and shrimp pasta dish brought in that was yummy.
flew home to be ready for 5pm school board meeting only to find out it was tomorrow afternoon. I don't use my phone for a calendar
remaining a tech troglodyte.

so...headed for hot tub and a long soak. I think I'm going to miss it while in FL.
But before I go, will drain it and clean it out; don't want to leave it running for ten days without reason.
Will put in fresh water when I get home and wait overnight for it to warm up.

lot of rain coming in late tonight and tomorrow.

Used to get a really good crab&shrimp w/ penne pasta dish from a place years ago, really miss it. 3 brothers pizza, it went out of business during covid I think.
Looked them up, Still some locations around, one I used to go to closed down, but they are in DC area.

Forgot to get coffee filters yesterday. So off to get them as well as mail letters. The dead bolt lock set is not operating smoothly so back to HD with that tomorrow. The State forester will be here tomorrow to inspect the tree plantings for contract compliance. A number of tree shelters were blown over in the last storm. We also have the yearly appointment with the eye optometrist. Had mine checked by a Retina specialist a couple of months ago.

Good Morning! God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

Foggy but warmer this morning, 37.8F, allegedly going into the 60s.

Coworker expressed interest in buying eggs from us — we never brought up the topic. since the new hens are starting to come online, it will be a good way to not get overloaded - I think I have eaten more eggs since May than in the last thirty years (I was never a big egg eater other than as an ingredient)! I just hard boiled another 2doz and have to pickle them, and barely made a dent - and I never got to make the quiches I planned this weekend…

an embarrassment of riches 😎

Another coworker said that come spring she would give us some elderberry bushes since all of ours died last summer. Yep - we managed to kill elderberries! Actually, i am pretty sure it was moles that got them, so this year they will go into some large planters and then next year I will attempt propagating cuttings, hopefully avoiding the critters by planting several detached patches.

The training module practice jobs are still wonky, and grading is aggravating. I did an experiment where I completely erased all the scanned data entered into the digital forms, saved the job completely blank, then went back and manually re-entered everything, one block at a time and saved it again. This way there is zero chance of pre-existing data contaminating my work - and it will clearly show if the system is re-loading documents into the forms with the default training data that is meant to be corrected.

the games one must play. . .

our fancy-schmancy coffee machine I snagged from a Habitat ReStore about 8 years ago has a leak - I need to replace a Teflon hot pressurized water feed line. The machine is 19 years old and it is worth every penny of the 100$ I paid for it - and the 300$ we invested three years ago in replacing the heater and control board, since the new equivalent one is over 1600$ and mostly plastic - this one is a metal chassis and body.

Stocking Mill Coffee ROCKS!!!!!

Got up around 4am to answer The Call, never fell back asleep - I got an earworm of “Burning For You” by Blue Oyster Cult. By 5 Am I couldn’t lay there anymore. Still have the earworm going. . .

Apparently We aren’t going to get more seasons of “Clarkson’s Farm” since Amazon dumped him for insulting the Former Royal and the Hollywood (insert appropriate (or badly inappropriate, depending)term here) who gelded him. . .

If you haven’t seen “Clarkson’s Farm”, it is quite entertaining - he is a much bigger dilletante than me & Mrs, with a big head start (inheriting working farms), bigger and more equipment, and a film crew. . .

I am “back of a napkin” designing a firewood processor for branches, based upon the ones you see with a chainsaw on a stand with the actuator for the throttle, but instead of using a chainsaw per se, it will use the bar and chain but be powered by a horizontal 4 stroke so large quantities of branches can be processed. Everything from about 1” to 5” in diameter. The 2” and smaller stuff will be primarilynfor kindling and the wood-fired sauna, and for mangal (kebab grill) the eventual beehive oven. Why waste firewood on a burn pile?

I hope everyone has a happy healthy productive blessed HUMP DAY!
I wonder if BEF can recall what that even means 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I found this little device makes boiling hard boil eggs so much easier and quicker.

They make retractable track excavators just for you so it can go through the doorway

I wonder how that would work going up my front steps, though?

No idea.

I’ve been frying eggs almost every morning for breakfast. Almost ready to open the 5 dozen package I bought. How long are eggs good for in the fridge?
Until they aren’t…

Good (Thursday) morning. Overnight Low of 7C and it's presently 20.5C due to a cold front that came through yesterday arvo. There's a steady breeze and there was 8.5mm in the gauge at 0900.

I've already been to the local Base Hospital for a 'foot bloke' appointment. He cuts my toenails, ensuring that no ingrown nails occur, takes care of callouses and generally checks the condition/circulation of my feet due to Type II diabetes.

Today I hope to mow the property in preparation for Sunday. Doing a wee bit each day... slow and steady wins the race.

That's about it, take care all.
