Be careful with upsizing. I had 3 AC contractors come and size a mini-split for my shop. One recommended a 12K unit, another a 15K unit and the last an 18k unit. I went with the 15K unit and it is too large. Heats and cools fine, but it doesn't run long enough to control the humidity in the summer. I had to buy a dehumidifier to keep the humidity under control, which negates a good deal of the savings from the mini-splits. In hindsight I should have gone with the 12K units.
How many sq ft is the shop? My garage is 880sq' and might add a second zone for basement rec room of 1000sq.

Ted, I think they wobbled from the very beginning. Have watched Rainman Ray's video of changing ball joints.
if rusted a lot, what a hassle.

David, did you send this Pineapple Express to California? Maybe they were Oahu pineapples...

I look at my sister's long term weather forecast and I wonder when the whole development will slide into the sea.
You just have to love CA. Truly.

Buckeye, your cats adore you. You'll never have a cold lap.

had fun with this bass test. At 10hz a little hum, barely. At 15hz about the same.
At 20hz slightly louder. At 25hz, whooeee, everything in the room shook a little. What fun.
very interesting to hear the different bass sounds in 5hz increments going up.
This also shows how much low midrange is in the 70-100hz range.

popgadget, crank up one of your professional speakers please with this video some time.
I'm curious how low it goes, though that was never its reason to be.

I need to go back and test system again, and throw the phase switch to see if I can tell the difference.

if I found a high frequency sweep test I would probably be depressed over how little I hear any more.

off to downtown to come back flush with my powerball winnings, some ones in my pocket...
guess I'll buy another ticket since it didn't go off. Which of course is what they want me to.

I was going to install a Pioneer 12000 BTU DC inverter variable speed unit that should be able to turn down capacity and still cool enough to take out moisture. Got the unit with 25 ft lines and all the tools but will now use that unit in another locations after some healing of the shoulder strain

And it’s the neighbor’s cat, but it is mommy to ours.
I should put a mini split in my garage. 2x6 insulated walls. 720 sf.

I actually use a dedicated hardware signal generator for testing along with a calibrated measurement mic. I have to do it outside because I don’t have a anechoic chamber, and the room plays havoc with speaker performance.
I actually design for a low end of 44hz or higher, due to what happens in the typical room below that. Even at 50hz, there are obvious nulls and peaks when you move around a room.

This.
Most modern, high SEER units use a VFD to control both compressor and fan speeds, both on the condenser and evaporator. This allows them to deliver more performance at low ambient temps, and still dehumidify properly. That is not the case with units that have a fixed speed compressor.

44F and cloudy @ 14:30, heading up to around 46F for the high. Weather moving into a more normal range for the rest of the Ten Day, with highs in the 30's and 40's and lows in the 20's and 30's. Calling for some rain/snow but not a lot.

Got that last plant that was in the garage set out/planted in the second circle yesterday. Be interesting to see what it is when it comes up (lost the label)

Woman's little planting spade is MIA, checked out back and didn't see it, will need to check over in the barn.

Brought empty recycle bin in from the trunk of Woman's car.

Woman baked a chocolate cake day before yesterday, I was called in to make the icing (peanut butter fudge)

More cleaning sorting work out in the garage, high humidity and lots of condensation until I fired up the torpedo heater.

Making some progress on cleaning off the bench shelving on the north wall, almost half done.

Gathering up stuff that needs to go down to the basement.

Located a small container that had liquified MiracleGro of some sort in it. Woman used that to water Her hibiscus which She said needed fertilized.

More sausage dumplings and mashed potatoes for dinner last night.

Probably get back to working on the garage for the rest of the day.

Hope everyone is having a good Thursday ... (y)

I do wonder what Popgadget models his speakers after. I'm going to guess a JBL monitor.
With a touch of Cerwin Vega.
I've seen them but never heard them.
inquisitive minds wonder how many watts RMS they can handle. What db output? Sensitivity?

asks someone with zero musical talent but enjoys the electronics part.

I also wonder, and this is way over my paygrade, whether my office sound system which is all digital and connected by USB except for the sub,
would using an external DAC improve the sound quality? In a pc your sound comes from your a/v card. Not much ever said about audio part so I have no idea
what specs are like there. Does the NVIDIA card in my pc, a good one, have a DAC in it already?
And if so, can you circumvent it, go straight line out somehow, run through the DAC, and then into my amplified speakers?

I paid extra for an 8k video card. But I don't remember them saying much about audio.

I'm assuming the pc is a pre-amp out in to my amplified speakers and amplified sub.
just not sure how the audio part works. Always seem to take it for granted.

I heard nothing. I guess I must be deaf. Using Seinhiser HD 569 headphones.

that's odd Bill. sorry
have now determined I can hear down to/my sub can reproduce to 23hz.
I listened to one sweep that went up one hz at a time.

Top end, somewhere in the 11k range. As expected.

I don’t remember doing this, but my past sins have been revealed. the original light didn’t fit over the ceiling box, so I apparently taped and muddled over the back side of the box that was still open. The old light fixture has mud on the back side of it, so it was done with the fixture installed. Out of sight, out of mind.
The new light is made to attach to a box like this and will cover.
I can’t find my drywall sander, been looking all over the garage, basement and the unfinished room upstairs where I last probably used it.
Then my son needed computer help.
I am going to fix it right, but not today. I will sand and repaint above the light before installing the new one

Found the sander.

With that in mind, I guess my two NIKKO Alpha 230 watt amps would be a bit of overkill? I also have the pre-amp for them.
NIKKO!

my buddy that I used to DJ with (I built speaker cabinets, did a lot of soldering, and humped stuff to/from events 🤣😂) way back when had one of those until he upgraded to a Soundcraftsman PCR800. Base CCW offends we’re EV 15-B’s, pole-mounted custom boxes with 8”EVs and we would string two lines of tweeters (5 on a line, 10’ apart) for totally unobstructed highs.

This little operation was called “SOUND ATTACK”…

Good evening. Great day today. Wife got her steel plate removed from her arm that she broke last year. 🎉
Why did she have it removed? Was it bothering her or did the Dr. recommend it? My wife also broke her arm and has a steel plate from 7 years ago.

Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 9.5C and it's presently a chilly 17.8C, steady breeze from the South-East and overcast.

I have no idea what is in store for today but a tip-run is probably in the cards. I do need to rake some of the grass clippings from yesterday.

Other than enjoying my visiting company, that's about it. Take care all.

Well, the freezing rain switched to straight rain and then back and now is snow. The town/dump run got cancelled until the FR stops. Maybe tomorrow.
My lottery ticket (numbers racket) was a bust yet again. I play the same numbers year round.
I think I may get away with 4 tower speakers with front vents and hang them horizontally from the ceiling in my man cave, angled downwards to me. The room is 12x12'. Just run one amp.

The break went right to the elbow, so the plate was kind of sticking out. Believe it or not, this was actually the second plate that she had had put in that arm. They had to take out the first one when she broke her arm the second time, and the second plate was quite a bit longer, and was kind of poking at the end of her elbow. if she had not broken alarm the second time, they would’ve just left the first plate in, but of course it was in the way when they did the second surgery.

They told her to not break that arm again.
