my sister on CA coast says the winds are howling; their ten day forecast has a lot of rain in it, enough to worry them, since last big
rain a year ago their entire neighborhood had a mini landslide. Part of one property washed away and whacked into sister's house on way down to ocean.
35 grand of damage later and a big mess. Whole area re-landscaped, re-drained, but this is the big test.

RNG, hope this is not too much at once.

have headache from school board meeting/zoom, time to kick back

To each their own, but I like my stout (and porters) at cellar temperature. I guess if you have a Lucas refrigerator, you could put stout in there, though.;)

I keep my stouts and porters in the fridge in the garage. It isn’t set very cool.

They come out, are allowed to warm a bit, then get poured into a pint glass to warm a bit more and get a chance to “breath“. By the time I start to drink it, it is close to cellar temperature.

the idea of warm beer is about as appealing to me as too cold white wine.
I understand you get more flavor and bouquet as the beer warms up.
But not like folks warm their beer up for the winter...

make my beer cold and my white wine garage temp, maybe 60 degrees.
Unless it's German and a little sweet. That needs to be cold.
my late wife would always put the white wine in the fridge and it comes out at 36 degrees or so, and takes a long time to warm up enough.
So in setting up for parties, I'd always bring it out early, let everything breath.
Too cold wine always seems to be a bit sour too. Unhappy. It wants to warm up...

I really enjoy a fruity rum drink. Probably sends me into glycemic shock.
so no rum for the dumb.

I'm keeping an eye on this one, too, Drew. Even the BBC is screaming bloody murder about how bad it's going to be. Rain every day for at least the next ten days. First year I was here, it rained every day in December. But then in January, it didn't rain a drop. Then there was the February Pineapple express that blew out the spillway at Oroville dam...

And for some reason, I'm cringing every time I hear the glass sliding doors groan when the wind gusts. And right now, it's gusting to 35 MPH.

The good news is that, so far at least, the Starlink internet service is working fine. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

More good news: I finally caught up with this thread.
Until tomorrow morning, that is...:D

Good (Thursday) arvo. Overnight Low of 9.5C and it's presently warmed up to 22.4C, partly cloudy with a breeze. It cooled off enough last evening that I had to put the electric heater on however it looks like Summer is back for a wee visit again.

So far today we've cleaned the chimney... couldn't get the cap off due to sticky creosote build-up, but it'll get me through this Winter and I'll have to get a handyman in next year.

I've just finished lunch (Aunt made me a BLT), so this arvo I'll get the string-cutter out & around the house, then go for a grass mow on the Z-turn.

That's about it, take care all.

Stick with yellow (lager) beer, and cold is good. The darker beers need to be served in the 58F range to fully appreciate the flavor. Don't like the flavor? Stick with lager. Same reason you serve red wine at room temp, and white refrigerated. Though I've been known to enjoy a reisling at room temperature...

Three of us once got sixteen dollar rooms at a motel in Winslow, AZ during a motorcycle trip. The only restaurant open was a Chinese place. I ordered a bottle of Zinfandel, and they served a white zin, which I refused. Something lost in translation for sure. Ordered a bottle of Cabernet, and it came cold as a well digger's knee. I asked them to warm it up, and they looked at me like I had three eyeballs. I shut up and just drank it...

We went to three different stores this past weekend looking for eggnog. Found little pint sized glass bottles of the stuff for an outrageous price, and it wasn't even spiked. Scored a bottle of Captain Morgan spiced rum to save the day. The same company also sold banana flavored milk, and once dosed with the CM, it was even better!

Hope Kyle and family are doing well

How about ohm F speakers for pipe organ music? Anyone familiar with them

   / Good morning!!!! #162,250
Yeah, but those old University horns were so efficient you could get theater-filling SPLs and base response down to 6Hz in a proper cabinet with a 40-watt tube amp….
With that in mind, I guess my two NIKKO Alpha 230 watt amps would be a bit of overkill? I also have the pre-amp for them.

Poured first cup of coffee. 33° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 37° with cloudy skies and possibility of snow. Got started on couple lathe projects in shop yesterday. While searching for material to make parts out of found the part I had made for JD snowblower lift arms years. I was where belonged. But did not look there when I put snowblower on last week.
Grocery shopping this morning. Have all the parts to get new WIFI network up and running. But have friends coming over. May not get to that project.
Been difficult to get a clear pictures lately with all the fog.

Good morning, low temp is 20 and warming up to a high of 28°F. Wind ENE 13 gusting to 21 mph. Snow fall warning in effect. Snow today and tonight. They are only talking a couple of inches, with some freezing rain.

After I get a bit more out of debt, it is my plan to reinstate my stereo...Nikko Beta 30 pre-amp and two Nikko Alpha 230 amps with Cerwin Vega book shelf speakers and a pair of tower speakers to handle the rest of the mid range and higher end sound. I like bass, but I don't like thumpa, thumpa that you hear from a half mile away that the kids now adays have in their cars. Decisions, decisions.

If I use Prime streaming service, although the movies are 'free', I still have the bandwidth to pay for. I only get 100 gigs/month for my $80.oo. I regularly go over the 100 and then it costs me $5.oo/gig.

Today is dump and town run. The way I have the schedule set up now, I only use one tank of gas a month. This way I can get the cheaper gas in North Bay and it does me for the month.

You guys have a safe day

   / Good morning!!!! #162,256
48 outside this AM, I think it looks foggy, heading to mid-60's today. Should be a really nice day.

SO managed to walk to the milk house and approved all wiring and lighting. LOL. Then added that the additions on one wall may not be needed after all. More LOL. Anyway, I am determined to fish and find that wire that goes into the one inside wall - the other dimension. Who knows what I may come across. Very perplexing.

Another issue I noted, with the warm weather spell, the concrete floor is sweating. Pretty bad too. I need to get busy on the mini-split, but also need to rethink a sealer of some sort. That's after I smooth out where I busted through some walls.

Will set up the game cams again today, and go look for some more firewood in the back forty today.

All this beer talk - I am a lager man. Served cold - like revenge.

Hope all have a great day, be safe.

When it comes to beer, I prefer my lager cold but will also drink it warm. There is nothing like warm beer and cold pizza the morning after a good piss up. Hair of the dog.

good morning all
going to be a warm day up to 58 with rain later in day

friend coming over for a visit this morning, then a trip downtown to cash in my winning lottery ticket and pick up an antibiotic refill.
have no idea what multiplier applies so I either get 4 bucks or maybe as much as 16. Should I call the IRS?..........

some meanderings on hi fi stereo.
winter is fun time to screw around with hi fi. I have cheap little Sharp compact stereo in the living. It plays christmas carols, maybe some background music but
never to actually listen to music. That I do on the computer, with a pair of Klipsch Fives speakers plus this new 10" Klipsch sub. Honestly the sub just disappears (not physically, typical big
ugly box)which it should in music. There is one audiophile low bass test video I am having lots of fun with. Not thumpa thumpa at all, just music notes not used to hearing.
Listened to organ music, so much music/noise it was too much for bad ear.

they do have some recordings on youtube of the music the kids play in their cars. They call it amplified bass music. Yikes, just awful.

I've been watching the videos of Andrew Robinson on what I call "regular hi fi", and then PS Audio for their hi fi question and answers.
Andrew, while totally staged and obsessive about his wordsmithing, is entertaining. Paul from PS Audio is clearly an audio genius, but he seems kind
of smug and floating on an elevated plane. Like the electrostatic speakers in his doorbell I'm sure.
I could buy a nice small rv for what some of this audio stuff costs.

I think the electronics of audio got so good almost ten years back that there's not much new out there. Horns and electrostatics still sound awesome and you can have as much
bass as you want with one or two subwoofers. And it's now cool to own the classics again since they were reborn and now retro. KLH 5 speakers, JBL 100's, with the orange cube foam grills.
JBL 100's were the speakers in the Memorex tape ads showing the guy sitting in his recliner getting blown backwards by the music. With the hair going straight back.

All modernized and really good speakers. Bill's Cerwin Vegas love to play loud, the ultimate rock speaker. They have their own sound, and if you like live or loud music, for not crazy money, find a pair. I don't know amplifiers at all. Never liked loud music...so never into power.

about thirty years ago, I remember playing an LP with audio test tones on it. How high could I hear?
At my age I bet I can't hear over 10khz. But there's something about being able to reproduce clean 25khz sounds that makes
15khz sound even better. Not sure how that works.

what is new today is home theater and the 9 and 11 channel speaker systems, particularly the speakers that bounce the sound directly up into the ceiling for
sound stage all around. Most wives would not allow so many boxes in the living room....so in wall speakers are the solution for many of those 11 speakers.
And something else new is DIRAC, hi fi firmware that excels in equalizing the speaker to the room. Supposed to be very effective, but
as expected, the audiophiles like PS Audio frown on any electronic monkeying of the signal.

I think having a home theatre would be fun. My home is way too small, so I make do with a larger monitor on my desk, and good speakers.
way less expensive than buying high end sound for living room. relatively cheap actually...

visions of tube amps glowing brightly in a dark living room, pumping out huge sound through Klipschorns or other large horns
good stuff on a snowy winter night

have a fine day.
