Good morning,

22° now mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 35. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Pretty out with the coating of snow from yesterday. Got about an inch, just enough for many crashes before the sanders did there thing, how soon people forget about winter driving and how slick it can get when it starts to snow.

No real plans for today, sand walkways the sun should clear the driveway. Maybe a grocery trip later.

Enjoy your day everyone

just enough for many crashes

slip sliding away....

friction is very important, particularly when there is none

nice meeting with neighbor, handyman/carpenter who does little jobs. Getting him to build wall shelving in kitchen for more storage and perhaps
to exhibit some pottery. If I had heat in my garage, I'd do it myself.

not much planned today. Think I might bake some apples to warm up the kitchen on a cold morning.

Good Morning.
35 and going into the low 40’s today under mostly cloudy skies, but it will be dry.
Yesterday was a lazy day, did a small weld repair job and puttered in the shop, but don’t recall accomplishing a lot.

I’m thinking that for today, I should start thinking about putting the snow blade on the tractor, and moving things around in the shop so it’s parked inside at the door ready to go. Other than that, it will just be what ever pops up, but whenever I start moving things around in the shop, I usually find some rat hole to go down.

Does this picture reveal my age? I still use the circular one regularly.

Morning all, 34 skyrocketing to 41 and sun is peeking out through clouds.

I have my HP 11c still and had a hp 28-c graphing calc. as well as a few others.
The 11-c I used to map out airport radar "areas" for multipath (ground aimed radar).
I use it to do my check book balancing now. Think it's on it's third set of batteries in 40 years.

PJS - new job! have fun, always goes by fast with so much new stuff.

Still a bit out if it, slow recovery.

Good Morning!!!! 37F @ 6:30AM.
Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 52F. Winds light and variable.
Picked up another half inch yesterday, most in the morning, then another spritz in the evening. The only rain in the 10-day is a week from Wednesday, but we're already well above normal for this time of year.

I remember a class in high school where they tried to teach me how to use a slide rule, but I never caught on to where to put the decimal point. Ended up starting college with a birthday present Rockwell four function calculator, which rarely got used, even in my engineering cirriculum. It had green LEDs, and it cost a hundred bux back when gas was thirty five cents a gallon. That's $1800 worth of Diesel these days, and I didn't need a calculator to figure that out! I think I still have it around here somewhere, but I haven't seen it in years. I have a tiny solar powered calculator out in the shop, but it doesn't do RPN and I try not to use it. Then there's the calculator app on the phone and laptop, which I've set to RPN, and I'll use that for any serious figgerin'. Thanks to the internet, it'll even do currency conversions using up-to-the-minute valuations.

Here's the Project Farm take on tape measures, Billy. If you don't wanna watch the whole thing, you can scrub through it while it's paused and stop when each of the test result charts display.

Got the oils changed in the touring bike yesterday, engine, transmission, drive shaft, and final drive. Made the usual big mess. Adjusted the valves, too, and found both exhaust valves tight. That's unusual, and I'll need to check them sooner next time.

Took the security gateway out of the network, as it was impossible to watch video or upload even smaller images with it in place. Glad I didn't pay full price for it, but maybe that's the reason it was so inexpensive. I haven't logged a trouble ticket with Ubiquiti yet, but that's the next step.

Checking the Toyota website, there don't seem to be any all wheel drive Prius cars in the whole state of California. I didn't know they were available with that option, and with my "driveway", I think it's a good idea. But I think I remember some DMV BS about not being able to register an out of state purchased car in California until it has XXX number of miles on it. If it's not one thing, it's another...

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

Good morning from the eastern shore of Virginia.
It was 43 and partly cloudy when I got up this morning, heading for a balmy 44.
Today's mission- get the leaves off the lawn and out of the gutters before the rains and freezing temps arrive later in the week.

Consumer Reports in the recent magazine had an article about car reliability. It is pretty much a clean sweep for Japanese brands with a few exceptions

Thanks, RNG...good evaluation by Project Farm...some comparo items I hadn't thought about. Now that I've been to his site 3 times, I think it's impressed on my memory for next need.

Welcome IXLR8...Northampton or Accomack?

Good morning! Low of 28°, only going up to a high of 42°, which will be around noon. The forecast says the temps will drop back into the low 30's this afternoon and a good chance of snow by late afternoon. The winds are now predicted to have gusts to 40 mph.

Maybe I'll get a chance to try out the edge tamers......

Drew, glad you're feeling better. Have you tried the propane burner type heaters out in the garage? They really work well, especially in places like garages.

Ron, nice to hear you had a good time. Nice blue jay pic. Our flocks have disappeared for the last few days. Haven't had to fill the feeders for almost a week.....

RNG, you probably can't find a Prius in Cali because they are in very limited production. I have 3 dealers looking for a Tundra SR for me.... there is one in Maryland and another in Florida.... that's it. You can't even order one, or specify options. The dealers are "getting an allotment of whatever Toyota decides to send us" ----- what I have been told by multiple dealers in 4 states.
I am thinking that it's going to be at least another 6 months to a year before production gets back to normal.

Not sure what I am going to get into today.... I might swap out placement of the implements in the shed. Move the mower to the rear and put the boxblade on the tractor for added weight. Then just some piddling....

Everyone have a great start to the week!

From today:

For the first time ever, US scientists at the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California successfully produced a nuclear fusion reaction resulting in a net energy gain – a source familiar with the project confirmed to CNN.

The result of the experiment is a massive step in a decadeslong quest to unleash an infinite source of clean energy that could help end dependence on fossil fuels. Researchers have for decades attempted to recreate nuclear fusion – replicating the fusion that powers the sun.

The US Department of Energy is expected to officially announce the breakthrough Tuesday.

A slide rule was what I used also during school and together with the log tables is what I used for design of bridges and other projects. Still have it. Using a calculator felt like cheating in the beginning. Not sure anyone knows how to use a slide rule anymore
I never did learn how to use a slide rule. I used pencil and paper up till I got my first calculator.

Good Morning - currently 41° going to 52° - Hope everyone had a good weekend..

Daugen - glad your'e feeling better..

I went and bought a battery chainsaw on Saturday.. This is my first battery tool I own now.
Bought the Greenworks 60v 16" saw from TSC..It was on sale for $149.99 regular price was $300.00..It included the battery and charger...On Sunday put it together and it worked great..Took battery about 30 minutes to get fully charged... I cut for about 40 minutes pretty steady and when I stopped I was at 2 bars left... I am happy with it so far, and didn't miss out on pulling the starter rope on my Mcculloch or Homelite...

PJ - hope you have a great first day of work

Have a great day everyone..

Frits, that book is a classic and widely read in schools
But I think the reason it was banned was the theme below:

What is the main message of To Kill a Mockingbird?

The Coexistence of Good and Evil

The most important theme of To Kill a Mockingbird is the book's exploration of the moral nature of human beings—that is, whether people are essentially good or essentially evil.

that issue is a very religious one and gets a lot of folks excited in a hurry if you disagree with them. So we can't talk about it here.

My almost seven years of living in NC was in a town where the blacks and whites are and have been totally segregated. Two separate societies. Same with the Hispanics.
Everyone got along, lot of surface politeness.
Entirely different from where I live now. Though four black males in a car are going to get eyeballed here likely too much as they are in other places.
Police pick up on what's different.

Frits, I think of your beautiful daughter getting snide, ignorant comments. Thankfully you clearly raised strong kids.
Kids desperately need self confidence.
I may get written off as woke by the far right but I'm glad DEIJB is succeeding in education and industry.
But then I was a psychology and black studies minor in college and this young white boy from the all white suburbs and country got quite a wake up call.

I got another wake up call in NC. This world has lots of nice people with very different opinions on race and religion.
Just figure we need to focus on what brings us together, not apart. Like tractors, the love of the land, the love of family and personal friendship.
Drew, it was more than snipe, ignorant remarks. We had those too and they don't bother us. It was more the burning cross on the front lawn and fires started against the walls of the house and the FBI investigations that got to us. But thankfully we are beyond that today

Good morning! 60˚F foggy heading to 70.

Wife woke up with 2 projects for me.
1. Clean the washing machine filter. (didn't even know it had a filter)
2. fill pits/refurbish/polish/seal granite kitchen countertops. (never done this before)

Number one is done. Now I need to figure out how to do #2 - anyone refinished countertops, either DIY or hired?

Glad you found a good one at a good price. I had my EGO battery chainsaw in the amazon cart ready to check out but then I made a mistake. I went to the garage to see If my Husqvarna chainsaw would start one last time. It fired up after two pulls so the order was not sent. As long as it stays self healing I'll keep it.
