Another successful trip to the lot. Long day, long drive. But absolutely gorgeous day. Had lunch at the closest restaurant to the lot, about 1.5 miles away. Was good, nice place.

The lot is somewhere down here, near the base of the mountain, as looking from the blue ridge parkway. I think under 2 miles as the crow flies.

We were talking, maybe we will start with a contractor putting up a small house or cabin, a place to go to on weekends. 1-2 BR, 1 bath and small kitchen area, that we can later add onto ourselves once we can stay there. Maybe walkout unfinished basement for storage. Think I’d rather put money towards small cabin first, build it so it’s the one end of future house if we decide to move there. Later build great room, larger kitchen and living area onto it, and master suite on the far end. The initial cabin would be on the end where electric and water enters. Take septic out such that the addition can tie in later.

Another plan, depending on county rules, would be to put in septic and well and electric to a power pole, so we could hook up camper there to use.

Thomas, it was 77° in my family room, so I opened the door to let some of the 49° air in. Down to 66° in here now.

Wingsprd, saw a few hikers on AT down there.

Ground view of east line

The swale down the lot with the trees does not have a defined creek, just a low spot.

Most of the lot is wooded to the west side. Did not go up in there.

Thomas, do you get to play with that Tonka toy?

The sights are pretty visible, I need adjust them or my sight picture as well as work on my grip. My normal grip drew blood on my left thumb from multiple encounters with the slide. Nothing serious, but definitely an annoyance pointing out that I need to do something different.
This guy looks like he knows what he's doing. Wish I'd seen this sooner...

Dennis, sounds like exciting times ahead. 🤙
Should be fun designing something to be enjoyed soonest and expandable for long term.

Thanks, I hope my health is up to it.
The actual area to build in is a little small actually. Build area determined by perc area. Haven’t been far up in the woods yet though. Depending on how steep, might be able to clear trees and build up higher, but that would add to cost, but maybe get better view.
Should have flown drone up over the woods.

A train came by as we were leaving the end of the lane where the crossing is. 2 engines and 7 cars.

good morning all
great pics BEF.

brrr. 43 outside, turned heat on, floor to bathroom a bit chilly.

had real problems with the basement paint smell last night. Had to open a few windows and run exhaust fan to pull fresh air into house.
Whatever chemicals they use in basement waterproofing paint really smell. One more coat to go, maybe with heater on now it will dry quicker
Looks a lot better down there already.

need to go foodshopping this morning, not much else planned, though may start assembling that driveway scraper that came in, think I have a friend coming over to help

Buppies, hope you are feeling better.

47 going to 73. Only 63 in the house. I'd have to turn the heat on if my wife had already returned. She's still at my mom's.

BEF, looks really nice. Can't wait to visit. 😁

Washed clothes while making coffee this morning.

Good morning! 67˚F heading to the mid to upper 90s, heater still not needed.
Kyle the neighborhood's semi-annual mega garage sale is next week, Oct.1, if you are interested. I don't have a lot on my "look for" list so will be browsing a lot. That will be a busy day for me because after I'll have my first work weekend day at the farm and get to see the giant candy cannon in action. Like Mostly said next week we will see a 10˚ drop in temps, yea!

Good Morning.
It’s 42 with a high in the upper 60’s and clear skies.
Perfect day for the farm open house.

Yesterday kept me busy, picked up a load of straw and loaded it into the hay shed first thing. Got the speaker finished, and the canopy put up for the open house. Had to wait until about an hour before sunset for the canopy, it was too windy throughout the day.
Put some hotdogs, sauerkraut and a bottle of cheap beer in the crock pot for the boys, when they came over to play music.

And the best news of the day was that I heard from the Landseer ECT breeder that he has a confirmed litter due in the end of October so that we could likely have a puppy by the new year. There are only a few breeders in the US, as the breed isn’t recognized by the AKC. Most come from Europe. We will only have to travel to Wilmington, NC to get her (we asked for a female if possible).

Now I’ve got to get outside and help finishing setting up for the open house.

Wngsprd, there will be a TBN party sometime. Lol
And the AT is just down the road. My wife got tired of me pointing out the AT every time we crossed it. So I just started saying, “we just crossed a trail but I forget the name”.

Flat top and sharp top

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 5:00AM.
Sunny. High 93F. Winds light and variable.
Seems like summer once again. And I was just getting used to Fall...

If not for previous owners, Rich, we wouldn't have much to work on with our old motorcycles, huh?🤣

Made more permanant repairs to the electriclally heated jacket's cord yesterday that should last a long time. Also installed each of the engine computers that had supposedly been reworked into the VW van. The first one still wouldn't communicate with the OBDII reader I use, but the other one did. Now it seems I have two good ones, and two that are questionable. But it will take more driving to know for sure. And since no documentation was provided with the replacement, I have no idea if anything has been done, such as replacing old capacitors, to this latest one. So much for "Module Experts", who I would not recommend.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend...
