Didn't get to do as much as I wanted today. Only thing accomplished was running another zone on the irrigation system out to the 2 new raised planters. I was hoping to get them filled, but ran out of steam.... the weed massacre over the last 2 days had me too sore to do much today.

The list for tomorrow is getting full ....

Drew, thanks for posting that trimmer string comparison. Definitely surprised at the winners.... I got lucky--- purchased the "weed warrior" string yesterday after returning the Shakespeare brand... which wasn't too good at all.

David, hope you and Sophie have a great time with your son/family.

No rain today. Plenty of dark clouds, but they never came together or form a storm. Chances everyday this coming week, Wed. and Thurs. have the highest likelihood of rain/storms. We are still almost 2" below 'normal' precipitation.

Everyone have a great evening!

Spent the night at my daughters last night as I had promised I would after she got her new home. Had a good night with some of her friends arriving for a session. Had to come home about 7.30 a.m. as my wife and I had appointments for 4th alligatoritis shots. Needed sleep after I got back from Doctors and when I woke it was raining so will be doing very little today. Truck booked in tomorrow for 15,000 klm service and nothing else planned except maybe undercoat the wall in the laundry. Need to do that so we can install some new cupboards before long. New sideboard arrived while I was asleep and the guys installed it in the loungeroom. That is for the 75" TV to sit on. Originally planned to wall mount it but it is just too heavy. Hope you are all well.

m_g: Randy(wag) nice rain what is dhobi day?

dhobi = Indian (Hindu) word for washing. It's a common Navy (well, Royal Navy + the RCN/RAN/RNZN who've also borrowed it) slang word for doing laundry or having a shower or cleaning something. (laundry soap = dhobi dust)

The RN used to employ cheap civilian labour onboard their warships to do menial jobs, such as Dhobi Wallahs from India. You needed to speak pidgeon-English to communicate with them. Anyway, the term stuck... even if the ship's laundry is marked "Laundry", it's still referred to as the Dhobi.

Another 'fun' Navy word is 'punkah-louver' which refers to the ship's ventilation and the round, moveable, ventilation 'exits' throughout the ship. A small example of a punkah-louver would be those little air-jets above an airline seat. :)

good morning all
nice to wake up to sound of gentle rain; been raining all night, soft rain, .79 on gauge which will give me a break
from watering for a few days.
It was really dry here so that rain I'm sure is entirely absorbed.
Should get to high 80's today and then three days of sun and high heat. So very glad we got this rain before it.
Then later next week a lot of stormy weather predicted, including next weekend. (fingers crossed for Ken's party)

have a long list for this morning, priority being getting through to either primary doc or endocrinologist to get them to order blood
work for me. Need to find out if sugar or cortisone/steroid level is off.
Did notice I've lost five pounds, didn't feel like eating much during that really hot weather I guess.

woke up this morning with zero symptoms of cold so think I dodged the alligators.
am thinking maybe tomorrow to go mow the graveyard again, this rain will have softened the ground just a little bit.
I promised pain doc I'd be good for two weeks and I really have.

Happy August everyone.

Ended up with 1.7” of nice slow rain. Guess I’ll be mowing grass this week. Forecast 80s-90s most of week, then thunderstorms by end of the week.

Welcome to August.

   / Good morning!!!! #153,932
Yep, feels muggy outside, like August. 73 cloudy and wet from rain, going to 87.

Yesterday afternoon was rainy, so was a Perry Mason day...makes me think of Toppop...hope he is getting better.

Good Morning
It’s 65 and overcast, supposed to make it to 80 in a mix of clouds and sun today.

We got just about an inch of rain overnight in a nice steady rate over 6 hours, so hopefully it soaked into the parched ground with no run off.

Yesterday was a nice day, wife and I did get to the grass field to see old friends, had a nice visit. One friend went for a ride in a Stearman, after her return, I told the pilot that took her, that her first solo was in her dad’s Stearman when she was 16. He was taken aback, as when he asked her if she wanted to take the controls, she declined. He had no idea that she could fly the plane.
Here they are flying by-

After I got home, went back out and filled the car with $4.04 gas at the Weiss market, got .40 discount with grocery points. Next stop was TSC where the pressure washer was not marked as on sale. When I showed them the sale price in their app, they did honor it though. Got it home and assembled, it even came with a squeeze package of engine oil. Filled it with Avgas, but haven’t started it yet, probably later today. Amazon delivered son’s tools that I ordered the day before, so overall a good day for the economy, not a bad day for me either.

Today I have a meeting with the FAA to audit the land use for properties that we bought with federal grant money. Their concern is that while we cleared the obstructions and leveled the ground, we left some buildings there were not an issue and now rent them out. The want to see where that rent money goes. As it goes straight to airport operations, I’m certain that we are 100% compliant, but you never know what obscure rules they might have. Should be interesting. When I get home from that fun, I hope to do some pressure washing.

Most of those names came from Northern India at the time of the Rajh. there's a film "Gunga Din" where you can see their use. Stars were Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen,Joan Fontaine

Good morning! 76˚ mostly clear skies, no wind heading to 100˚ again.

The dog days of August start. Just another 4 weeks of scorching heat BUT according to Buppies we have another 8 weeks. Buppies wasn't this supposed to be an active hurricane season? WHERE ARE THEY!
It sure will be nice to be in the 60s in the morning and only 80s in the afternoon again, in October I guess . . .

My rain total for June and July was .76", The last rain was July 11 and was .06", There was no rain in the gauge because it evaporated but the Tempest rain gauge picked up the vibration drops. If I would not have been home and seen the brief drops glistening in the sun I would have just given a bird credit for a good aim on the weather station.

The average water bill is running $200 for July, I'll get my bill in about 2 weeks. The yard is bone dry 4 hours after watering it. Today is "No Water Monday" which is the designated weekly day for the treated storage water facilities to re-fill. I just hope it stays a little green till tomorrow.

heard loud back up alarm noises and I guess this morning is the morning my dying front tree comes down. Bet this is going to be seriously noisy in the house when that chipper runs.

picked two nice pounder plus tomatoes, they need another day to ripen

be careful what you ask for...
one inch of rain every Wednesday night would be nice right?

Good morning all, about 1" of rain and cooler today at 83 high.
Sprayed the stiltgrass yesterday, every trail, every forest edge is covered in the stuff.
Looks like it also follows the deer paths, so they must be tracking it. :-(

Dog is washed - She is not too hard to get into the tub and this time stayed put for a bit.

Newbury - just used the washer with the regular attachments. Wonder if my washer would even drive that.

Gotta go

Good Morning!!!! 71F @ 6:00AM. Overcast. High 89F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Our last rain was June 5th when 0.85" fell. In May we only got 0.15" for the whole month. The weather prediction calendar at WU isn't showing any rain in our forecast until November...

According to Gas Buddy, the best price in Chico, CA is $5.25/gallon for regular. It seems like only last year it was three dollars cheaper...

I was browsing through the streaming offerings on Amazon Prime yesterday when I came across one called Hummingbirds and I couldn't resist watching. Lots of slow motion showing their antics while the narrator described why they think they behave that way. It was shot in South America, and the colors on some of the birds was just fantastic. There was another called Honey's Nest about four years of a hummer nesting on a back porch. Lots of great shots of the eggs and chicks, even their fledging. With great content like that available free to Prime members, I could get to be a cord cutter pretty easily.

Found a link to a Craig's List ad in my Facebook feed yesterday that showed what appeared to be a fine condition BMW R80ST motorcycle, a model I've been chasing for quite a while now. Shot off a text asking if it was still available, and had a nice talk with the seller. We settled on a price, I Paypaled the funds to him, and it'll be here as soon as I can arrange shipping from Seattle. Or I might fly up there and ride it home. Decisions, decisions...

If I get real ambicious this morning I might mount the backhoe on the tractor and try to find the phone line up at the gate. It occures to me that the wheel on the trencher might not be able to reach it without also cutting the wire to the gate opener sensor.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
