70 going to 88, maybe storms.

Roy, I guess this is sleeping in for you!

Thomas, what did you have for dinner?

PJ, good luck on the new job.

Yesterday was ladies yoga day at my house, so I was on the road to the mountains at 6am. Had a nice hike, although it was a buggy and muggy one. First time this summer that I haven't passed any through hikers on the AT. In fact, I saw no one else on the trail. About the time I finished a breeze picked up and it felt good eating my apple at an overlook with wind in my face at one of my favorite viewing spots.
When I got home, the grass had finally dried enough to mow for the first time in a week, so mowed for two hours before dinner.

Here's something that I had never seen before. Writing on the trail in sawdust.

The trail club had to cut a large fallen tree from across the trail, so there was a pile of sawdust. A hiker had scooped up some and wrote this message. Must have been recent since we've had some big rains this week.

Morning all!
65 going to 84 with 96% humidity. Definitely going to be an inside day! Had a bad storm blow through last night. Need to go out and inspect for damage.
Wife and I are doing fine. Her dad is having a few health issues but turns 85 next week so not unexpected.
I keep reading but darn this thread flies by! Jumps 10 or 12 pages on me.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Took the day off today for a mid-day interview with another company. Interview was with the president of the company, and went very well. Will go back one more time for committee interview. Have a good feeling about this.
Good luck, PJ!!!!
Staying in a QA function?

70 outside this AM, heading to lower 80's. Rain on tap for most of the day.

Yesterday was a bust. Legal issues kept me in most of the day. I managed to get on the mower in the early evening. The grass was not dry enough to my liking, but it had to be cut. I set the mower at 4 inches and took off hoping to clear the mind and tame the lawns. The cutting was not up to my usual standard. Too wet, clumps in areas...and...you guessed it...rain. Plus for an added bonus, I got a little bit too close to a wet area, hey no standing water, but yep.........sunk. A nice hike back to the house for the RTV...itching and cursing the way up. Nice hole in the yard now after retrieving the mower. Restarted, now caked in mud, grass clippings and a nice odor of swamp water.....yep....more rain. Not enough water to do anything, just edge bursts from the big shelf cloud overhead. And enough to frustrate the goggles.........I stopped since it was getting dark. May have to wait until Saturday to finish up.

Hope all have a great weekend. Be safe.

Best of luck on the job interview, PJ.

66F and mostly cloudy @ 07:00, headed up to a high of around 81F with a mix of sun and clouds.

Just finished completing the ACS after repeatedly forgetting to do it. Census Bureau sent two short form letters reminding that it was not optional, the third one was a big thick packet. Guess they figured I might not have internet access. Anyways it's done and out of the way so it can be crossed off the list.

Woman really went to town on the kitchen yesterday, island decluttered and the kitchen table is almost cleared off. I'll see if I can't contribute further to that effort today.

Main item on the agenda though will be to continue with the compost/manure screening and getting the screened material moved down to the garden area. May do some additional tilling before I remove the tiller and stick the box blade on.

Beyond that, I have some long PT boards (2 x 8's, 10's, or 12's) from the old deck that are sitting up in the field (compost/wood lot) that I may move down to contain the soil on the east side of the garden where the grade slopes off. Screw conduit straps into them and drive rebar stakes into the ground.

Also have the trunk sections of the Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) that was next to the house that we took down a few years ago lying at the back edge of the yard. Want to pull those out and see if they can't be used for the fence posts around the garden area, since they supposedly hold up well when in contact with the soil.

Have a look at the lawn and see if I can hold off mowing another day.

Woman just spotted a a little white-spotted fawn wandering through the backyard ... which caused me to go have a look.

I haven't really been paying close attention to the summer squash plants for a few days, but looking out the bedroom window I see there's one that has completely overtaken the day lilies and is now starting to intrude on the row of peonies ... so much for "lots of room" ...

Hope everyone has a great Friday ... (y)

out making a squash delivery
RS, I think your wife is going to have a full time job doing this based on the number of your plants.
I can't keep up with four plants; how many squash plants did you finally wind up with?

Not sure on the exact number ... but I think it's between 30 and 40 on the summer squash (yellow crookneck and zucchini)

I'll try and get a count when I'm back there today.

Woman said the other day that she found one that we missed and it was starting to get huge. She picked it but didn't bring it in, so I'll need to go retrieve it today.

On your old parchment, would rolling it up be a possibility ?

Probably not ideal, but might be better than folding.

Good Morning
70 with a high of 80 forecast under clouds and sun. Chance of rain, we got about 1/10” yesterday.

Yesterday was reasonably productive, crossed a batch of chores off the list for my wife, checked the oil and did a battery capacity test on the standby generator.

Still working on the plan for today

RS, good idea but we are afraid to do anything with it, has been folded in quarters for 300 years.

30 plants, 3-400 pounds of squash?
time to start making and selling zucchini bread.

have something fun to do today. Meeting another elder from our church at bank and together we are unfolding a 1722 parchment document in the safe deposit
box ever so carefully. We think it is the original document for the beginning of our Quaker Meeting.
I was putting an updated digital memory stick in the box when I saw the 1956 envelope marked Old Docs.
<snip>
Seems like you are the hand of fate. That document has probably been waiting since 1956 for you to find it on it's 300th birthday.

Good Morning!!!! 71F @ 4:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 104F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Had a chance to use that grease gun fitting kit yet, Drew?

Sorry about the lawn, Mike, but at least you got a pretty sunset out of the deal.

Good luck with the new job, Paul. How many of your coworkers are looking to get to a safer place, too?

The ball is back in my court with the solar contractor. I need to install a TriMetric meter on the battery bank, then he'll walk me through some tests to characterize the condition of the battery.

Got a call from my contractor buddy last night letting me know he's gonna try to get to the trenching this weekend. I need to find the old burried telephone line, so I'll have some quality time with a shovel this morning before it gets hot.

TGIF gang!🍻

65°F and mostly clear skies this morning, going up to 82° today. No more rain in the forecast until Sunday.

Thanks for all the well wishes. That place is not in the city. In fact, it's well south down in Arnold MO. Pretty much the same drive, just south instead of west.

It's another Quality (& Safety) Manager position, Roy. I had been considering going back over to the dark side, but I've been a Quality Jerk far too long to just let it go.

After the shootouts in the street two days in a row a few weeks ago, RNG, every one of the women in the upstairs office told the company president that they were going to start looking for other jobs somewhere else.

Good morning, gents.

Same here...about 40 years in the field...
Can't teach an old dog new tricks, eh? Biggest mistake I made was getting in to Quality Systems (ISO 9000 and currently, AS 9100)

Good morning, overnight rain and up to 84 today. Trees are happy.

PJS - good luck on the job hunt!

Riptides - sounds like a rough day, it will get better though.

Stay safe and be well,

Last stop before Flying home was Lucerne. Stayed on the river in the old town. Big lake and super clean. When in Switzerland, you can almost always see mountains in the background.
