good meeting with pain doc, scheduled for another epidural next week. This time they will knock me out. Costs 100 bucks extra, which is fine.
Means I have to get a driver which is a pain.

headed out to mow, here and at church. Had to promise doc this morning that next time I get a shot, I will be very good for two weeks, not two days like last time.

63°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 92° today. The heat is creeping back in on us here. But then, it is Summer.

Big excitement at work yesterday, the kind that doesn't involve bullets poking holes through my office walls. The St. Louis City Police, SWAT, and FBI raided the motel and gas station across the street yesterday afternoon. I got stuck for about a half hour before I could get out of the parking lot. Must have been 100 cops over there, and probably 25-30 perps standing in a line modeling their new nylon bracelets. I missed the action, but was told they rolled in all at once and put flashbangs through every window into the rooms. Armored vehicle even took out part of the motel's back wall to extract a non-compliant "guest." This morning, both places are closed, and the motel is all boarded up. Not gonna miss that place.
Reporter for this station was standing right where I park my car in front of our main building.
Police, feds raid North City motel tied to gang activity, source tells News 4

Got home a little later, so didn't get as much grass mowed as I'd hoped, but did get some done. May or may not get it finished this evening. Not sure I'm going to mow the pasture since we've had so little rain since last week.

There's not much current at all on most of that part of the Big River, Mostly_. There are a few places where the riffles around bends speed things up a bit, and one spot just past Fletcher MO where they put in a series of wing dams last year that speeds up quite a bit at the end of the dams section. That was the point where I realized I had absolutely no control over my kayak, and was at the mercy of the flow of the water. It was moving so fast that I had zero resistance against my paddle when digging in as hard as I could. For the most part, though, it's an easy float with a light current.

Most of that part of the river is not very deep, wngsprd. Not sure we encountered any spots where we couldn't touch bottom with our paddles. Along most of it, you can see the deeper channel in the middle and the sides are not more that a couple feet deep. There were a couple spots where someone had rigged rope swings on overhanging trees, but I certainly wouldn't entertain the idea of cliff jumping there.

Good morning, gents.

Almost forgot to mention I heard back from the FAA yesterday about the drone complaint. The agent told me they didn't get any response from the phone messages they left, and couldn't prove who owned the drone. So they sent the neighbors a letter that cited the regulations . . . .
I knew that proving who the drone belonged to would be problematic. Did the FAA give any clue how to identify the owner? Can you capture it instead of shooting it down or is that still a penalty?

Edit: found this interesting article:

Good morning to all! Low of 58°, heading up to 86°, chances of storms. No rain last night, all the heavy clouds from yesterday have dried up and evaporated.....

PJ, hopefully those two establishments will remain quiet for a while. At least you were able to leave for home. Sure does make us appreciate rural living.

BEF, sorry to hear about the corn damage and power outage. For the old house, I ran extension cords like you. When I wired the new house, I wired in a manual transfer switch. I still have to wheel the generator from the shop over to near the house. It's a 10K dual fuel, so will run the whole house.
We get a few outages a year that only last a few minutes, but every few years, there is a major outage that lasts a couple days.
Since I bought the generator and have the switch / wiring installed, we haven't had any long outages.....

Thomas, you better behave at work and take it easy.... Sounds like the boss is watching you too! You don't want to get the Mrs. involved, do you?

Drew, try not to push the mowing to hard. Is the ground relatively smooth? You need to get one of those umbrella type canopies to get out of the sun.
Glad you got the steering wheel issue solved.... it's always the simple stuff...

Riptides, that storm cloud looked like it was going to be nasty... but left some beautiful colors behind

Don, are you sure it's the hearing aids talking to you? .... just want to make sure....:oops::eek:

RNG, thanks for the FAA info. Never knew those laws about drones. One would think there would be greater limitations on flying over private property....

Today's agenda is to get the wood border installed around the apple tree and the back of the sheds. Shouldn't be too difficult, just a couple cuts.
I held off on running the drip system yesterday, thinking we would get some rain..... that will teach me, doing so just messed up my schedule. That has already been turned on.

Everyone have a great day!

70°F and 1.33 inches rain. Looking like a wet one today.

Got a good start on my man-lift basket yesterday and had high hopes of finishing that today. It’s a repurposed Tote frame for my forks. First planned use is to lift me and new pressure washer to power wash my solar panels. Not today.

I updated my rain chart. Monthly rain data since installing my wx station. Useful to monitor for catchment, but I also color coded to break out rainy vs drier months based on historical monthly average.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

79F and partly cloudy @ 14:15, heading up to a high of around 83F for the day. Calling for scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon/evening, chance of rain 90% ... (y)

Woman is pacing herself today, after overdoing it in the sun yesterday ... still in her nightgown ... ;)

Rationed out meds for this coming week first thing, think I managed to remember to take them all this past week when I was supposed to: pillbox is empty.

After that checked potted plants and see if any are in dire need of water. Watered tomatoes around back. Putting saucers under the pots seems to be helping as they don't dry out quite as quick.

Moved Water Buffalo around to second circle so Woman can water the plants there, rain started spitting at me while I was doing that. Hard to say whether we'll end up getting anything significant but here's hoping ... 🤞

Rest of agenda for the day:

Get cage installed on large tomato plant that I planted yesterday.

Remove string line.

If dry, dig up the two artemisia "Silver Mound" that are growing on either end of the row of peonies in the flower bed and relocate them elsewhere. That will open up spots for the two "Mixed Peonies" that Burgess sent.

Water the irises that are now exposed due to The Woman's weeding efforts.

See if there are some spots in the flower bed to see if we can't get some of those winter squash and pumpkins planted in there.

Run down to hardware store at the corner and pick up an o-ring for the pump on one of the hand pump sprayers. This one will be used for spraying the stink juice on plants the deer seem to be hitting hard. Will need to give the sprayer a good soak and cleaning in Nutrasol as I'm not sure what it has had in it.

Probably find some other stuff that needs doing as well.

Hope everyone has a decent hump day ... (y)

Power back on, almost 24 hrs off, not too bad.
But did order larger generator, outdoor plug, cable. Need to pick up 6 ga to connect to panel, and an interlock.

Everything put away, water jugs for flushing refilled. Shower time.
Rain gauge did report .33” rain for yesterday.

78F partly cloudy good chance rain over night.

Good day today... only 4 hours at pt. job ;) 2 stops for critter food 1 stop kittens goodies, clean up remaining branch limbs from yesterday storm, nice nap with 1 of kittens... think I'll just kick back enjoy the rest of 7/13.

Enjoy your evening all.

We were under a severe thunderstorm warning which has expired.

Closest local station only reporting 0.09” but we certainly got a lot more than that thankfully.

Still raining …

Managed to get a dump cart load of screened compost loaded up and then placed on flower bed and the bed behind the frog pond where the summer squash are planted before storm rolled in.

No luck at hardware store on the o-ring for the sprayer pump. Kinda surprising.

Just cut up some styrofoam for the bottom of new pot for the banana tree and loaded some soil on top. Will probably transplant it after dinner.

Black eyed peas warming on the stove, haddock fillets in the oven, enjoying a salad with Ken’s Steak House blue cheese dressing right now.

Good evening.
Another hot day here.

Here’s the regulations the drone operators have to follow-

Here’s what an unlicensed drone operator can do-

There is actually very little that the FAA can or will do to deal with an errant drone operator, mostly due the inability to prove any infraction. As far as invasion of privacy or “spying” those acts are totally out of their jurisdiction. Reckless operation is something they can enforce, IF it can be proved.
Local LEO’s usually don’t want to deal with drone complaints either.

Good evening. Jasper and I are down at the water front inside the screened gazebo, watching the sunset and its aftermath. He is vigilantly looking for ducks or other critters out on the water so he can bark at them.

Good (Thursday) morning... well it was when I started reading the thread, then received a call that a fold-out couch, that was scheduled to be dropped off at the Church's furniture shed at 1230 was ready to be dropped off at 1030, "Do you want us to just drop it by the roller-door?" "No, I'll be right in (20 minutes) as it's too heavy for just me to maneuverer." So, that's done but I'll still need to go back in for the scheduled bunk-bed pick-up. <sigh> Must remember... 'be glad'.

So, Winter showed up again this A.M. with a low of -2.4C = frost. Clear and a gentle breeze. It took 'til 0900 to fully melt. Currently it's 12C, which is the predicted High.

Last evening I went into town to open the Church Hall for the weekly AA meeting. After a wee bit of searching I located 'their' bag containing their own key (it was in a storage tub marked Al Anon). So, now I don't have to do this every Wednesday evening.

It's 1215 so I need to head back into town. Take care all.

(Update): They were a 'no show'. I did wait an hour before closing up and heading home. Still, it was a pleasant day. :)

Good evening all. Found this on internet, explains why Texas so hot this summer. 75ºF for the start, partly cloudy sky, light breeze. Light wind day, partly to mostly cloudy, and high temp was 102ºF, HI 105ºF. Men's meeting to start day, then maintenance work at fire station. Took longer to gather tools and travel to/from fire station than to replace fuel filter in pump motor. Did take trimmer for walk, got all around the house, Had to stop to refuel and change spools. Lunch then nap. Mexican for dinner :)
