Happy Birthday NHBX

I saw that front yard fireworks video I posted on the news last night...on the big screen, it sure looks like during the commotion, the teenager drops a lighter into the box of fireworks behind the van...hope not the case.
I backed the YouTube up and saw that also, but when you back it up a tad more you see a spark from the road fireworks hit it and then nothing visible from this angle for a few seconds, then he goes closer and the explosions start. Another point lighters go out when the trigger is released and no one looks old enough to have an old style old lighter. Also the timing is just too fast for ignition from a lighter and a punk also takes some time for the heat to ignite combustibles, but those few seconds before he goes there is enough for that spark to start to ignite the contents. The teenager is in the clear.

a punk also takes some time for the heat to ignite combustibles

so our teenager was not a punk...with a punk.

I think something went off in his face and scared the you know what out of him. You just can't run fast enough.
Not even sure going flat/hitting the deck would have been wise. Getting around side of building was needed.

I have told this before. Sorry. One July 4th where I as mc of the fireworks, three hundred feet away from pool where whole family was seated, big family party for Mother's birthday,
elevated maybe ten feet above where I was. Tractor with wooden wagon on rear, set fireworks off the wagon. Never hurt the wagon. Caught the fields on fire a few times.
But....one of those flying rockets with the little rocket stands on the bottom fell over after I lit it.
Took off with a roar and almost hit me but to my horror it was going right at my little sister who was seated next to my father on the concrete pool deck.
My father saw it, immediately went to protect sister and flattened her on the concrete. Oh, that didn't turn out so well... rocket hit my father and
sister was not happy and got pretty scuffed up if I remember.
And boy was I in the doghouse. I think I had to lean everything the other way after that.
And no more flying buzz bombs where you never really knew where they would go.

no wonder folks lose fingers and eyes.

To me it looked like kids at sidewalk knocked a lit one over, that started more, that went off and ignited the pile behind the car.
All around bad parenting. One kid at street looked to be barely walking stage.

But yet I laughed.

I was living in Annandale VA in early 70's, and had access to much better fireworks than PA.
interestingly not long after this incident, what I call the "safe and sane" fireworks period came in and the stuff
was so unexciting I was heckled for setting off road flares by mistake

Father was part deaf in one ear from having a cherry bomb go off just as he released it, in the late 1920's.
That lesson was taught to us early on.

Cherry bombs and the next size up, quarter midgets? Two inch long fat tubes. Really loud.
Many a mail box fell victim to them. Not by me, ever.

Put one in Popgadget's and it would blow the door down and after the dust settled, mailbox would be fine. Over engineered.
Supermarket circulars might be a bit tattered.
Federal crime, no laughing matter.

cut some lettuce for a neighbor, pulled back lettuce from two eggplant plants and lo and behold.
Now what variety did they sell me...looked normal on the tag.
This should be interesting.
have soaked in neem oil, mites or something loves eggplant leaves.

Got my hydro change kit today, oil and filters all in a nice box. Not sure when that will get done.

Worked from home, but had system problems connecting.

Good Evening.
It’s 72 and has been a high overcast all day

We had alligators drop in for a visit this week. My wife greeted them, but so far I have avoided them. I’m hiding from the world, getting various chores done, but I’m working alone.
I pulled out and replaced some fence posts, I am extremely pleased with the hydraulic auger, especially being able to slide to either side to be able to see the auger past the hood and loader frame. A little bit of a learning curve using the down pressure and keeping the auger plumb, but I’ve got it figured out now.

These damned alligators have me trapped here, but I don’t want to take a chance on someone else getting bit. I’m also a bit skeptical of the home alligator locators. They found them for my wife, but none for me.

I’ll be back when there is more to report.
