Didn't take the trimmer for a walk today. Decided that some of the areas needed the garden tractor to cut down the high stuff first. That will substantially reduce the amount of weeds to get with the trimmer.

Of course, the battery was dead. Hooked up the charger and made numerous attempts to get it started. The battery is 8 or 9 years old, lasted a long time, but I think it's toast now. I would try it on 10 amp charge for a few minutes, then switch to the 2 amp mode for another few minutes, would crank over a few revolutions and then click, click, click.

Then I realized that for the last 45 minutes, I was trying to start the tractor WITH THE GAS SHUT OFF! DUH!
By this time, the battery took enough charge to again turn it over, so a few splashes of gas down the carb and she fired up on the first revolution.

Ended up doing a lot more areas, the front driveway entrance, around the RV parking area, and the septic leach field. Can't take the big tractor / mower in those areas.

Had leftover grilled chops and fried diced potatoes with onion. Hit the spot!

PJS, thanks for the info. We have 25 acres, and there's not really a super safe place to shoot here due to road, neighbors and cows on all sides. My FIL gave me a .17 HMR rifle to shoot critters on the pond. The bullet disintegrates instead of ricocheting.

Thomas, beautiful picture of Turkey hens and chicks. Give 'em some chicken scratch....or let them eat the grasshoppers and bugs.

I had to replace a Y axis limit switch on an old Bridgeport cnc mill. Old, I tell ya. It uses a 3.5" floppy drive. I don't have a computer that has a drive like that anymore.

Good (Thursday) arvo. A mild overnight low of 8C, but down to 2.4C at dawn. I had more rain yesterday and there was 2.5mm in the gauge. There was also a heavy fog when I went into town to open the Church hall for an AA meeting at 1830 last evening = really had to be cautious driving and keeping an eye out for critters on the road. My thermometer is showing 16.8C now with clear sky and a tiny breeze.

Very pretty dawn with so much water droplets in the trees that, when a wee breeze came up, the trees seemed to sparkle with a million 'fairy lights'.

Had a 1050 appointment at the Base Hospital to have my toenails clipped. It's a 'perk' of having Type II diabetes (A$25 every three months) and it ensures that I won't get an ingrown + that I've got good circulation down there.

The 'Liars' have predicted rain for the next couple of days.

That's about it; take care all.

70F and mostly cloudy @ 23:30, heading down to for the overnight low. High today was 80.1F with lots of clouds and a breeze, was quite enjoyable. No further rain other than a couple short sprinkles and spits. Looked like it could rain at any time earlier in the afternoon though.

Fixed potting miscue on the first 10 asparagus plants I did the other day (planted too deep)

Got two 2' high chickenwire cages made up for pepper plants.

While I was doing that Woman alerted me that the Orienpet lilies had huge blooms that were open or were about to and one needed tied up. So I headed around to scope it out:

IMG_1822 copy.jpg

Unfortunately the ones toward the front have been heavily pruned and had their buds removed, probably by deer. Good chance these above will meet a similar fate tonight. Woman said they "smelled delicious" ... I'd have to agree. If they are still there in the morning I'll need to do something tomorrow to handle it so they don't get pruned.

Woman worked on cleaning up the walkway to the front door, still have some rejiggering to do on that tomorrow. We did get the aquarium stand planter moved into position in front of the kitchen window and she loaded the pots with flowers into it.

Some clean up in garage done, got oil drain pan emptied and stowed under shelves, along with chainsaw, pole saw moved up against shelves so the path to the back is clear.

Empty mulch bags and some other trash hauled up to can at the road, mail collected, some compostables dropped off on the pile on way back.

Once I had the dump cart emptied, Woman met me up there and we put a heaping load of screened compost into the cart.

Had late lunch (18:00) of a BLT and then headed back out to start adding screened compost to the garden bed. Woman weeded area where that was going:

IMG_1823 copy.jpg

Still need a little more screened compost down at the far end, where one of the large tomato plants will get planted tomorrow:

IMG_1824 copy.jpg

As I was doing that The Woman fertilized the zucchini plants on the west side of the garden bed.

Got two of the large bell pepper plants planted, caged, and watered in with liquid fertilizer solution.

IMG_1825 copy.jpg

Around that time She announced that she was going to knock off and head inside. That seemed like a reasonable idea, considering what I still needed to do to get stuff put away for the night.

As She was headed in (through the basement door), She noticed the tomato plants in pots sitting next to the house: "There's two big tomato plants here ... ???"

A-yup ... ;)

I did spot an open place in the flower bed and managed to shoehorn a summer squash plant into it after I gathered up all the tools and watered the tomato and pepper plants that were in pots. Only four of those left to go.

Cut two 6' pieces of 4' chickenwire off the roll when I got back up front and did a little more cleaning and arranging in the garage before I moved plants inside and closed things up.

At some point this afternoon (evening ?) I was in the living room and noticed that the mama groundhog had come out. Took the screen out of the living room window and started to open it ... but it moved and I didn't have a shot.

So I went back into the bedroom and removed the screen from one of the windows there. Heard Woman come inside the house and yelled for Her to come and collect up Squeak and close the bedroom door which She did.

Managed to get the window opened without spooking the groundhog, which is pretty tough to do: they tend to be very alert and observant of their surroundings and will often just see us walking around inside the house and make tracks back to their burrow. Opening a window if it makes any noise at all usually sends them scurrying for cover.

Got off two shots - first was probably from around 80' and the second was probably from 60'. Think I hit it with both shots but it was still able to make it to an entrance hole.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Haven't been on much. Had to take Lesley to apnea center in the city every day this week so far and again tomorrow. Trying to get masks sorted.
Rain has finally stopped but wind started. Only about 15 - 20 kph but less around the house due to tree shelter.
New dog loves rain and loves making mud pies everywhere. Lotsa cleanups to do and holes to fill. Hope he grows out of it very soon. (tomorrow would be good)
Clear and sunny weekend coming up but wind persisting. :(
Ground too wet for tractor work. Lots of spraying needs done.
Solar gate opener arrived weeks ago but haven't even had time to think about doing that. Needs new posts first.

Good Morning (like it is really early) 12:01 here

I had a pretty busy Wednesday, and not a bad day as such.
Salvation Army pick-up scraps this morning, and delivered a bunch of banana boxes to them that I no longer needed.
Egg delivery
Physio Therapy Appt on my dislocated shoulder - therapist gave it a really good workout (and at times that hurt), but that is why I pay him the big bucks. He was happy with the progress so far, after 10 months. Says that I need to continue doing the exercises for movement, strength, grip strength etc. Acknowledging also that my dominant (injured) left side making progress, and my right side (more impacted by CP) is in maintenance.
I met a friend for coffee, for the first time in a year. He paid me a good chunk of cash for some bookkeeping that I had done 5 - 6 years ago. It was the same amount that I had loaned my son just last week. That "bad debt" is cleared years later. I can ntirnow pay off the entire balance for the zero-turn mower. God is Good.
I stopped in at the farm equipment place and had a visit with my zero-turn. The modifications are almost done now, so I should have it delivered in about a week. Too much rain here lately, mowing is pointless, next week looks nicer.
Delivered a box of groceries to a friend
Chatted with another friend about a vehicle that she was considering - to replace her son's car after a deer encounter last week. I told them that it was a nice car, reliable, in good shape, and probably worth the asking price. I know the seller, so if my friend's son is interested, it might be a workable deal. I would probably buy it myself, but I don't need another vehicle at this point.
Had coffee tonight with another friend that I hadn't seen in several months. That was good, we normally connect every week, but he's even busier than I am. mechanic by day, farm maintenance by night
My wife is still away in Prince George, BC ... her return home in a large part delayed by the fact that she has not been feeling well enough for the 8 hr drive home. Pray for her, pray for our marriage. Difficult times lately.
Sister-In-Law has decided that she will not be staying here to live with us (that is an answer to my prayers, we don't have the space, tiny home, no privacy if others living here), and although I did not want her, or anyone else living in our space, I had nothing to do with that decision ... she's homesick for her family, her community, and her church fellowship back in PG). It will take time, but at least thus far, I am not being blamed for the change of plans (yay).
My counselling continues every two weeks - the real progress / change will occur once my wife is home again.
I hope that she will like seeing the grass maintained, that will make a convincing reason for the zero-turn :)

Prayers for the needs already noted. Take care, you guys ROCK :)

New pressure washer started 1st pull, very encouraging. Have to replace that water spigot as it has a bad leak.

Got the new air fryer situated and burned in, not a good odor.

Might take getting used to the controls being more complicated than the old toaster oven.
