daugen, a few years ago I watched 6 mosquitoes fly off with one of my cats. A couple of days later 4 black flies brought it back.
Our worst bug nightmare is pine beetles. They will take a chunk out of you. They aren't very gracefull fliers and their landings are hard, so you can feel them land and sweep them off before they bite.

Good morning! 78˚F heading to ONLY the mid 90s as cloud cover is expected this afternoon. Next week we start in on the 100˚s again.

Yep, Drew, I guess money can wipe away guilt feelings and there are business that will sell the riddance of guilt and make happiness.

So you are going to mow the back 40, that will be 2 carbon credits please.

Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 5:00 AM. Sunny. High 89F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph.

Heard some scuffling sounds on the ground outside the bedroom sliding door, and when I flipped on the floodlights, there was a good sized jackrabbit sitting there. It shuffled off, and another, smaller one, took its place. I wonder what they do for water, as the lake is a long walk away for them.

Now there's a hummer sitting on the empty feeder just outside that door, oops, make that four. They'll get their breakfast after I have mine.

Carbon credits: Another sign of the approaching apocalypse.

Got a good start on the trench out to the StarLink Dishy yesterday. But like my friend says, that backhoe is a lot longer than it seems. In spite of being extra careful, I still managed to flatten a piece of gutter on the roof. Fortunately, I have all summer to figure out a fix.

I'll get the trench finished today, then maybe start work on the down force for the auger. And maybe get tarps over the backhoe and new flail.

Hope everyone enjoys the long holiday weekend...

The haul is about a 16 hour rounder plus loading and unloading and the money is good. If the crew works with us, so far they are not, we can claim 24 hours in a day for wages. Yes we get paid to sleep.

It is good to see that most everybody is here that was here before I went to work.
Has Ron from Michigan been heard from?

Good Morning.
It’s 75 outside, dew point is 73, outside of windows are covered in condensation. Makes me wonder how effective triple pane glazing is.
Going to the middle 80’s with a chance of rain and thunderstorms today.

Yesterday I got an early start with the string trimmer, I got about 500 feet of fence done, which is actually 1000 feet of trimming because I’ve got to do doth sides. I’m really impressed with the Makita trimmer. I used up 2 5ah batteries, and about 25% of a third. Probably had to reload line 3 times. I’m using Echo .095 twisted square line, which cuts better and lasts a lot longer than the .060 round line that came with it. So far there doesn’t seem to be any I’ll effects from the heavier line.
Next in the rotation was the Lazer, it did a great job of mulching the stuff the string trimmer cut. And trimmed around everything that was going to be a challenge for the 16’ pull behind Progressive.
By now it was as Hot as Drew said it was outside. So it felt great to get the tractor out of the air conditioned shop and hook it up to the mower and start mowing. Makes a big difference getting into it if it’s not already heat soaked.

Finished mowing, and went out to a late lunch, and picked up Emily’s stone from my buddy that sandblasted it. It came out great, but it’s got my wife’s pet name for her on it which isn’t necessarily family friendly to post here.

Today the boys in the band are coming over around 11 for a rehearsal for a gig next Saturday. This evening I’m hoping to load some Boston Butts into the smoker for Pulled Pork. They will cook overnight and should be ready for lunch tomorrow.

Drew, as good as muffins sound, I’ve also sworn of carbs, trying to reduce my actual footprint. But I’ll send you home with some pork.

Other areas defined as sensitive include government-owned buildings, schools, health care facilities,
places of worship and public transportation.
People who carry a gun in a prohibited location could be charged with a felony under the law.

Don't the crazy people keep shooting up our churches? Not in NY who just passed this? What about genuine self defense?
Subway isn't exactly the safest place either.

When the Nazis came for over ten of my family in Brody, Ukraine, I wish all those relatives had been armed to the teeth.
Evil was coming. You need to defend yourself, not be herded off like sheep.
We can't all be soft targets or won't end well. Didn't for my family.

Give me a shotgun and non lethal ammo, bean bags, something, and someone will find out how much practice I've had target shooting.
It's pretty hard for a pacifist to buy a gun. Even a non lethal one. Think I want to float that around on Sunday.
You just have to be realistic. You can't talk really crazy people or animals down.

I believe there was an earlier comment on the wisdom of NY politics. But we aren't getting political here.

I wish we could legislate criminals and I wish it would only rain on Wednesday nights. Let me know when either one is working please.

carb free muffins. Hmmm. Not gluten free, carb free. research time

BEF, you're up early...but nice to read your humor this morning. Glad your dad got a new mower.
.

Just so there’s no confusion, I hate tea.

Yes, went to bed early. was a bit down yesterday, between dad moving my mower with FEL, anniversary of mom passing, putting our old cat down. At least he got a decent mower, since it was the only one he could find,

Up early, decided to stay up. Worked on bills, so over half of my next pay is already gone. Want to retire, but don’t see it with today’s inflation.

Was gonna work on shed, doesn’t feel too bad outside with breeze blowing, but getting hot and humid, calling for more storms today. Might mow field soon and call it for outside work.
Been finding old newspapers blown in our yard. This one from 1952.

I buy basic cars, I don’t want all that overpriced electronics in my car. I rarely turn radio on any more. Can’t stand the news. Play music from my phone when I want, hate commercials. Guess I’m getting old.

Kyle good luck with the A/C repair, that id beyond my skill set. Any idea why radiator let go?
Impala sitrep: I got it all back together, all new compressor, drier, orifice tube, condenser, radiator, fans and shroud. So far, so good. I tested the A/C system by holding a vacuum overnight. It blows really cold now, and the temp gage stays rock stable where it should. (it used to vary by about 20F.) I told the wife and daughter that if we had taken it in, they would have charged us as much as $2000. for what I did. My cost for parts was about $650.

Library is very concerned over censorship. I'm going to suggest one shelf of every book banned anywhere.
I would add another cup of jurisprudence on this. It is a slippery slope. People can buy for themselves whatever they want to read/view. Does the library use any public funds? Some school libraries down here were putting books with gay/****/crazy stuff subject matter on the shelves.

Going into 90s today another hot and dry one

Not doing too well wngsprd thanks for asking

Prayers for all
Special prayers for you and your wifey my friend.

Plans for yesterday evening went in the trash after Wife called me on her way to a training about 5:30pm to tell me that she found a young lady driving her personal vehicle for Amazon deliveries (that's apparently a thing now) had a flat tire about a mile up the road from us. So, I drove up there to change it for her. She had an older Jeep Liberty, and the right front tire had blown. No amount of pressure I put on the lug nuts would move them. I went back to the house to get a cheater bar, and even the extra four feet wouldn't budge them. In fact, I twisted and bent the tool. Told her there was no way I could get those off. She called her insurance company to get a tow truck, and the tow company that called her said they couldn't get to her and would need to "reschedule." She reminded them that she was "out in a corn field 50 miles from home," so rescheduling wasn't an option. I suggested she just try a local company. She picked a different one than I suggested, and they showed up about 20 minutes later. Guy got out his Milwaukee impact driver, and fought to get the first one off before breaking the second one in half, leaving the beveled half under the rim. So, he gave up, too, and just pulled it up on the flatbed and took her into Highland. She is no longer pleased with the company that last rotated her tires.
How frustrating. You try so hard to be a good Samaritan, and some idiot tightened the stuff where you have to destroy it to get it off....This is why I don't take my vehicle to get the oil changed anymore. I once had to chisel an oil filter's flange off of my GM 350 cu in engine.

70°F and .30 inches rain.

Interesting visit to my ophthalmologist yesterday. Significant improvement with eye chart. Dr says I can get new prescription or not. Interesting in that to me there was significant difference between left vs right, meaning the last line read with right was just a blur with left and tech backed up 4 lines. ??? Anyway Doc said looking good. Told him that I did use a pair of old readers for close but no problem driving without. He told me to grab a pair of 1.75 out front. He did ask when my next DL renewal, Nov, which requires eye exam. So I opted for a prescription and follow up exam in 3 months. Stopped at Walmart and ordered new pair of transition lens for a bit of UV protection.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
Prayers for you and Sophie.

Cat is getting put down later, kids are spending time with him.
Sorry about your kitty. Condolences.

The Michelins may be guaranteed for 70,000 miles but that doesn't mean that they will do that mileage. Really, it is just the casings guaranteed not to fail before then. I bought a set of tires guaranteed for 70K once and they were the worst wearing tires I have ever had. I got about 20,000 klm out of them on my Honda. Bridgestones or Michelin lasted over 50,000 klm.
Michelins are usually good tires. Big difference between km and miles.

Gosh, there is so much more to mock us over than this. :ROFLMAO:
you can say that again....like paying for carbon credits....and reparations.

RNG, I always thought those airheads lasted nearly forever. stainless valves are the culprit? Non magnetic stainless is usually a 300 series grade, which is tough, but not relatively hard. 400 series stainless is slightly magnetic. Valves should be fairly hard, and be able to take the heat. Wonder what the OEM's are? Wonder if you had a lean condition?

BEF, you should get that tractor's cooling system fixed ASAP. I would not recommend using it for the tough mowing until you do...catastrophic engine damage comes to mind. Are there bubbles coming out when the radiator cap is off? You might already have a blown head gasket. It could just need the radiator cleaned out from the inside. Glad to see your dad is still "up and at 'em". Did you figure out the riding mower's locked engine? Take spark plug out before you bend a rod. This will let you know for sure if locked. It could be that fuel filled the cylinder and it's hydrolocked.

SpeedAire Compressor: Seems to be working without sparks....but haven't used it extensively yet.

Millermatic 250: IS HOME!!! Now need argon bottle and regulator.

looks like rain has passed us by
need to go get two five gallon gas cans filled.
Used to be NJ was cheaper. Not sure anymore
but it's the place I started buying gas at in 1966, same family.
maybe I should go later and snag a McD ice cream cone on way home.

when you pull that cone in out of the high heat, and it's starting to melt and drip,
and one good lick takes care of that, then the drive home is fun
until my body decides what I just gave it wasn't all that healthy, sugar and fat grams.

Buckeye, what seems crazy for you is not quite that crazy here, and trust me, I sure agree with you about keeping adult material away from children.
But the right to read it? I treasure that about as much as many of you treasure the right to own guns.
Half my town is something other than he or she and the norms are different. Maybe like they are in Austin or Provincetown.

I was talking about books on an upper shelf for adults. Or mature teenagers. I was 17 years old in college reading some pretty powerful stuff.
And not just Shakespeare. It's a book and an opinion. Have to work a lot harder for knowledge and wisdom.

I'd be more concerned over what your kid is downloading on their Kindle. I see some pretty smutty soft core stuff on Amazon. Mostly fantasy series with bare chested men on the covers
that women read at the beach.

I remember reading Catcher in the Rye, finally, and thinking, what's the big deal. Europeans think English and Americans are prudes.
All you can do is teach your children the best you can.

Good morning to all! Low was 58°, going up to 78°, chance of afternoon T-storms. Partly cloudy now and 70° at 09:00.

The weather guessers are all over the board.... watch the forecast at noon, then by 5pm, it's changed, then by the late night news, changed again. Not so much the daily forecast, but the weekly 7 day. They must play "Wheel of Weather" in the station studio.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! to Mr. & Mrs. NHBX..... 42 years together, you must be doing something right for sure!

LFN, good to hear from you Bill. Close call with the moose. Hope everything else is going good.

Kyle, good job on the A/C. Now everyone is going to want THAT car!
Air compressor working, Steiner going strong, welder to get fixed up.... Do you have a sign out front for "Kyle's repair shop" ?

Today's agenda: try to get some of the mulching done. Need to get some landscape fabric put down in the 'new' area first. I'll get done what I can....

Somebody was shooting off fireworks late last night. Big boomers, sounded like the mortar type. At least it was after the rain shower. Tried to see where they were, but couldn't see anything from the porch. Even though we have a "ban" currently in place, somebody always ignores the order.

Everyone have a great day!

77F and sunny @ 11:45, headed up to a high of around 84F. We did manage to get a little rain overnight - LWS reports 0.03" yesterday and 0.04" since midnight - although I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are, since the flower bed was still looking a little moist this morning. LWS also reported that the high hit 95.5F here yesterday.

Still nowhere near enough to catch us up to where we ought to be. And nothing on tap until Tuesday, when it looks like we'll be going into a four day period with decent chances each day (assuming chances hold up)

Got more water and fertilizer put on the two largest rhododendrons in the northwest planting bed late yesterday afternoon then headed up and watered the new plants at the shop with what was left in the Buffalo. Thankfully no disturbances of anything there.

Then came down to the house and got those two tomato plants watered with the fertilizer juice.

Also got the last Butterfly Weed planted in the flower bed and the screened compost emptied out of the dump cart.

Figured I wasn't sweating enough, so I did a quick little retaining wall project around the lid in the flower bed for the first septic tank:

IMG_1815 copy.jpg

Just a temporary solution. I'm due to give a call to company to have them come pump it so need to keep it clear. (And actually need to replace the standpipe that goes down to the tank cause it's not there)

Got all the planted day lilies, summer squash, and peonies in that bed watered as well.

Day lilies around the west Redbud tree are blooming:

IMG_1814 copy.jpg

Fedex tracking was showing that the Burgess plant order was "out for delivery" ... in Belleville, MI ... WTH ???

🤬

It showed up here this morning ... so I'll probably spend the rest of today getting that stuff potted.

Will need to go get a dump cart load of screened compost and make up some potting soil to do that though.

Fortunately, the heat isn't predicted to be near as bad as it was yesterday.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday ... (y)
