Roy, David, and BEF, ....... I found all of your missing motivation......

Unfortunately, I also used it up in conjunction with mine. Sorry.... I had to.... mine was weak.

The good news is that I won't have to call 811 to report a cut underground phone line..... disappointing, but I really didn't need any additional aggravation. I am basically out of the 'high probability' area, but it is still in the general area.

5 posts set with the top rails installed. Only 22 more to go. The oldest grandson (18y/o) was a very big help today, he carried all the materials from the stacks over to where needed. Then was assigned the 40lb packer bar when backfilling the posts, doing 3-4" lifts of dirt.
He is a big guy, 6', 265 lbs. I wore him out.....

He will have the day off tomorrow, going out with our oldest son (his uncle). I'm going to pre assemble some more top rails, and stain some more materials. I need the break too! Oldest son will help to install more posts on Monday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To check and Sis. Meal sounds great.

Drew, hope the tractor maintenance went well.

Toppop, thanks for sharing the pics. I really enjoy seeing old iron. The horses are nice too!

RNG, make sure you keep that heat on your side of the hills..... don't need it here!

Gonna go put the feet up and have a bowl of IC. Max will partake also. He gets all put out if he can't lick the bowls.

Everyone have a great evening!

44F and cloudy @ 21:00, headed down to a low of 35F for the overnight.

Refilled hopper and two sunflower tube feeders yesterday, also two suet feeders and the deer feeder with whole corn. Have now changed over to sunflower hearts, safflower seeds, peanuts, and a small amount of cracked corn in the hopper feeder and all sunflower hearts in the tube feeders. Looks like that may allow several days between fillings.

Ran down to the AutoZone this afternoon, fired up the double-barrel stove in the shop on the way out. Had them load test the battery in the van, yup it was bad. It was one of their 2-year batteries which I had bought and put in back in 2016. Went ahead and replaced it with the same.

Swung by the Speedway on the way back and picked up 10 gallons of fresh K-1 Kerosene parts washer. Found I had 2 1/2 gallons up there in a can. Think it takes 12 gallons. Got that brought inside and then started to work on more shop clean up.

Think I managed to get most all the pieces of that rear u-joint/yoke assembly fished out of the center frame tunnel section:

IMG_1568 copy.jpg

Might still be one u-joint cap floating around in there somewhere from the looks of it ... which merits a little further investigation.

Got most of the old fluid drained out of the parts washer, will finish that up tomorrow maybe and get it cleaned out. The old fluid - which I think was actually diesel - will get mixed into the bulk tank.

Placed an Amazon order for a couple of gallons of Fast Orange hand cleaner (smooth for up in the shop, pumice for down at the house), plus some 5 gallon grow bags and saucers to sit underneath them.

About to work on finishing up yesterday's Chinese take-out for dinner ...

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Good afternoon all. It may have been a low of 13C overnight but the wind-chill certainly negated it. Currently 17C. 2.7mm of rain over the past two days.

Great meeting in Ross yesterday. It's a lovely little historic rural town practically in the centre of Tassie with so many structures from the mid 19th century. I stopped, before the meeting, for a medium flat-white and hopefully for an Eccles Cake (a pastry from my childhood) that I'd heard was at one of the several bakeries/coffee/tea shops on the main street. The one that I chose didn't have them but had something similar and just as tasty. I'll try out a different shop the next time I visit.

Home by 1630 and, after supper (with a bottle of Merlot), I went around the house changing all of my clocks back an hour = Yay! Extra hour of sleep in my comfy bed... and then fell asleep in my lounge chair. 😀

Take care all!

RS, you are hopefully going to have a huge flower explosion soon with all the hard work y'all did.
Kyle,

We are certainly hoping that is the case. The only thing that has bloomed so far are some crocus that were planted a few years back. But we have all sorts of daffodils and tulips that have come up, with more coming as the soil warms.

The Woman wants to know why none of ours are blooming when She sees so many that are in Her travels, even a little north of here. I suspect it is just soil temps (currently 42F, 24-hour average 40.7F)

Might give the Queen's gardens some competition.
LOL ... don't know about that ... but I did just order these dahlias as an early Birthday present for The Woman:

We tried some dahlias she was given a couple of years ago ... they weren't really ideally sited, but they came up and bloomed ... and then we lifted them prior to frost/freeze but the tubers did not make it over winter.

Think we have a better handle on over-wintering them now and we'll likely be growing them in pots, at least initially.

Glad to hear you and kids were able to make a haul at the big sale down Don's way ... (y)

Spent most of day on quicken and excel. Found out my recatagorizing awhile back messed up some of the split transaction links. Had to clean some up. But found a bug in the software. Certain sequence of strokes crashes quicken every time. maybe it’s because some of the old loan transactions got messed up also. The data is there, but quicken lost the link between the payment to the loan. All transactions should equal 0, all ins equal outs, but it dropped one side. To fix it would mean re entering the data. Too far back, not worth it. I know what’s wrong and can adjust the numbers to account for it.

I now have data from quicken, now imported into excel, going back 20 yrs.
Then I looked at 20 yr average, 10 yr and 5 yr averages.
Based on these numbers I estimated what I expect I need for retirement in all the categories. Even put a little bit in there for another toy.
I’m probably a little high on my estimated now.
Hope the financial guy can come up with a way to generate what I need on what I have saved.

But who knows what the future will bring.

Good Morning
It’s 38 going to 50 today with rain likely.

Yesterday, I successfully checked off every task on the busy agenda that I laid out. Wood work on speakers, welded the mailbox post, network cable run at the restaurant, attended memorial, and did a BJ’s run.

This morning, I’m off to Burlington, VT, then Hagerstown and home. Should be back before noon, cooking a family dinner tonight, all the kids will be here.

Good morning all. With very little wind and it being a dry sunny morning, I ought to be outside, however you can get too much of a good thing, as I discovered yesterday. Like Wng, I had been clearing an oak that fell into the hay meadow and spent a little too much time having fun with chainsaws, now my fingers are complaining at having to type ! At least it was all done before getting too entangled, surprising how fast the grass underneath it had grown compared to the rest of the field.

Mostly, glad the dog didn't spoil your ride. I always used to get more of those "dog issues" when riding a mountain bike than when on a road bike. Not sure if that was because trails pass closer to farmyards, or because troublesome dogs by the roadside tend to get thinned out by trucks.

49 going to 64. More wind.

Toppop, looks like the Plow Days event was a hit. Neat stuff.

Don and Kyle, sounds like the neighborhood sale was a good one. Kyle, I was hoping you found another violin.

Wag, I looked up Eccles cake...looks good...and of course a flat white would go perfectly.

Split the firewood I cut the day before, stacked in the last opening in one of my pallets. May call it quits for this season putting up firewood. While I had the tractor out, I cut a few remaining cedars and pines growing in the wrong places, and grappled them and 4 other piles I had left to a brush pile...had to open up another approach to get into it, since I had filled up the first.

Also staked a series of points where I plan on transplanting some volunteer white pines and magnolias...may use the pines for future Christmas trees, since the cedars are all too big or too small. It's a place where I didn't have much luck growing Scotch pines, only have 3 left.
