Good evening all and Happy Birthday Drew.
More family members with aligatoritus meant a quiet Sunday for us.
It gave me plenty of time to try and answer that question of how much a 20 ton pile of 14mm crushed gravel works out per rock.


First off I took random samples of rock from 3 different places on the pile. Each sample had exactly 100 rocks.
Sample 1 weighed 425 grams
Sample 2 358 grams
Sample 3 382 grams
[Sorry in advance to you QA pros - the kitchen scales have no calibration certificate and no doubt you would want a lot more samples]

Total sample weight 425 + 358 + 382 = 1165 grams
Average weight per rock = 1165 / 300 = 3.883 grams
Weight of pile = 20 tonne = 20,000,000 grams
Total rocks in the pile = 20000000 / 3.883 = approx 5.1 million rocks !
Price per rock = $1379 / 5.1 million = .027 cents per rock, which actually seems pretty good value

Anyone who has trouble getting to sleep at night is very welcome to check calculations and put me straight tomorrow

I think you need a second survey. Gather 3 samples, exactly same weight, count number of rocks each sample. Compare results to 1st survey.

Morning all! 14C overnight and have woken to a somewhat overcast day. It's 19C now and the 'Bureau of Many Guesses' says that this will be the high temp... yeah, right.

Apparently it's a Holiday today celebrating the "8 Hour Working Day". Some call it 'Labour Day'. Being retired, I need to be reminded of some of these occasions. Heck, I often need to be reminded of what day of the week it is.

Well, didn't do a thing today except lay in bed for 4 more hours..... seems to be getting a tad worse. Coughing frequently, no junk however, a 'dry' cough. Just feel real tired. No other symptoms.

I think I am going to go take a hot shower, maybe that will help.

Just to clarify. Is that .027 of .01¢ or about 40 rocks for a penny

Good evening all. 34ºF for the start, windy, clear sky. Windy day, sky was clear, and high was 64ºF, DP 15ºF. Chapel to start day, wife requested pancakes this morning, and into energy conservation mode. I meant to do a short bike ride but took a nap instead. Something knocked over next years wood stack after dark .

Fire truck and ambulance just left from next door. Didn’t come or leave with sirens or lights, so not sure what was up. Fire truck was spinning tires on their icy driveway, took them awhile to figure out if they pulled forward off the ice, and then backed up, they were ok once moving.

Good morning, low temp 22 and high to 30°F. Wind W 11 mph. Light snow.
I've got about 2" so far and am torn about plowing or not. Temperatures are supposed to rise for the rest of the week. The next 5 days aren't supposed to get below freezing in the daytime. Still freezing at night, though.
Maybe I will just push the banks back and cut the trenches for the runoff.

I've got nothing to do from now until 9 A.M. I don't bother to go plow before 9. Back down the you tube hole again.

One more wifey's daughter coming in today...so, it'll be five to one Female to Male and they're all related by blood.
Thinking about locking myself in my bedroom!

Actually, we all get along quite well, for the most part. The daughter coming in today is from Wyoming, and I probably have more in common with her. Guess I'm good with it, since I paid for her plane ticket (and although told I would be, I'll never get paid back...but it's family, so I'm OK with that...)

looks like the beginning of super nice weather, no freezing temps in 10 day forecast and 60 today in sunshine.
Spring is arriving and hopefully flowers will start to pop.

slept poorly last night, up and down, read my book a while.
Need to get gas this morning and pick up some milk, not much else planned.
Then dinner out tonight with a friend.

Buppies, I have an extra long back scratcher that became mandatory after all the scars on my back from various dermatological issues.
But not until it heals...

My SIL sounds better, could not get out of bed for two days.

While some of you are still having Winter weather, this morning our low was 51° and going for a high of 72° with a 20 to 30% chance of rain late today and tonight. This year is getting off to a very dry start. So far I've only had .52" in Jan., .34" in Feb, and .57" this month. One day this week, my tree service guy and his crew are supposed to come and prune the crepe myrtle and oak tree in our front yard.

Morning all, 29 going up to 57 waiting to see the sun.
Had some unexpected snow yesterday, but not enough to really add up.

Heat in the apt is not working, wonder if it has anything to do with the power outages- Took a look and everything looks fine and lights say everything should work, but gas doesn't fire....$$$

Got most of the hanger into position to pull it down, new snatch block should be here today.

PJS- Lowes near here never seems to have more than one register open, and it's never crowded for some reason

Green Acres - nice video - I miss the MA maple gathering. One group even bought a soft server machine and added maple syrup to it. Pancakes with dark syrup and maple ice cream for dessert was always fun.

This is the little branch that tried ot get us yesterday, I moved it over to the side. Only 18' long.
At least this was small compared to the tree that fell up the road.
Neighbor got home pretty late last night, and saw the tree all cut and stacked, Think with her husband away these storms and falling ash are getting to her, so glad I saw it before she did.

Bird, there were lots of crepe myrtles in NC, had a few in my front yard. Some folks would prune them back to almost bare trunks, looked horrible, but darned if they
wouldn't grow back. They used to call severe pruning of crepe myrtle "crepe murder"....

Buppies, I have a lot of moles I have to keep track of. Hope yours turns out benign and just a grower.

I was pretty sure the melanoma I had on the underneath of my chin came from bounce UV off the water from many years of boating.
one on my back was from not wearing a shirt I'm sure, for so long until we got wiser. And often the damage was done by then.
As I reach for this goopy cream to put on places...
Every six months at the dermatologist, been doing that for a long time.
