Morning all, 25 and going up to 38, sun is out and looks like the last cold spell for a while.
Some more trees and branches came down, one earlier while walking the dog hot maybe 20 feet from us and scared the dog silly.
A small ash fell up on the road to my neighbors so I took out the pole saw and cleaned it up so they would be able to get in/out of their house of they needed to.

Got to see the top of a large dead ash in the woods go to pieces, looked like an explosion as the bits of wood hit off other trees- it was certainly a bit windy. and of course, none of the trees I want to fall by the trails came down.......

Don - the M18 weedwacker has the same push through string and turn. Much easier than the windups. So far it's only jammed once, and that was the wind it came with from the factory. My string is thicker and more square which seems to help.

Drew- Hearing the details on your hospital stay and cancer and seeing you around this past year has shown your resilience. That you came back to your childhood home and quickly volunteered to help at the church and take such good care of your neighbors shows why you are still here. Have a happy birthday and many more!

Stay safe and be well,

Think she is trying to figure out how to lift this one. She is awful at helping me move sticks around as she just wants to grab every stick I lift up and run with it, even if the stick weighs 10 times more than she does. :)

Cleared the drive and walks...Ego snow blower did great...in fact, I even cleared a path the the tractor then started the Deere and let it warm while I did the rest of the walks and other areas I can't get with the tractor.
Thinking about using the small "push" snow blower on the back deck...about 14' by 20'. Not that big, but my back can only handle a little shoveling (3 herniated disks in lower back).

Got some work "work"

54°F and .01 inches rain

Hope all you who lost an hour are doing fine. We don’t do that here

Should make a dump run today. Likely make it a slow and easy day.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good morning to all! Low was 33°, going up to 58° and sunny today. Just a little breezy. The sun / temps should finish off the rest of the snow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Drew.... hoping you have many more trips around the sun!

After tossing and turning all night until about 4 am, I woke up with a sore throat and nasal congestion. I'm feeling a little "off", but no muscle aches or fever /chills. Hopefully it stays that way! I have thought about using one of the free alligator bite tests, but think I'll save them for now.....

I think my sore throat is associated with being out in the cold on the tractor, then being in the path of all the blowing dust.... just caused a bad irritation in my upper resp. tract.

I didn't get to the door closures yesterday, so moved onto the books for today. It may or not happen, depending if I feel better. Same with the tractor oil change / greasing. I'm not gonna push my luck and make myself feel any worse.

I might follow Looking's path down the rabbit hole.... haven't done that for quite a while....... OR go get another R/C plane out of mothballs and start rehabbing it. Maybe both....

Everyone have a great day!

Got down to 14° last night, was 18° when I woke at 6:30 so was after then. I let snagglepuss sleep in mud room last night.

Icy roads on ways to worship, but clear and dry on way home. Sun is out doing it’s thing.

My camera in front was iced over yesterday, but I cleared it last night.

Trying to get a nap in.

Taking a meal later to a guy who just got home from hospital after a stroke.

Happy Birthday Drew!
29 here now after a night in the teens. Will be in the 50's daily this week we are told!
Snow and high winds kept me busy yesterday and this morning. Putting 3 tons of newly purchased pellets away today has turned my back into a hurting puppy. (2 more tons are outside waiting)Think I will be resting for the duration!
Other than snow clean up still not much going on around here.
Wife and I are healthy and staying in shape with walks when possible.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

thanks again for all the kind wishes.
nice to be home after four hours at church, two hour business meeting dominated by
one basically crazy person. I kept smiling and we got through it. Almost all alligator restrictions removed.

If only life were that simple. My brother's wife here in New Hope has been in bed for days, lungs congested, and yes
tested positive for covid. Whole family is seriously worried. She got it from her tennis buddies earlier in the week, three out of four
ladies got sick. Indoor tennis place. Perhaps a place to avoid for another month.

it all becomes very real when things come close to home.

Buckeye, I hope your land dreams come true. Having enough room between you and the next person is such a wonderful thing for those
of us who enjoy some privacy.

It was hard to get my wife to agree to go live on a farm. She liked having close neighbors. Boy I sure didn't.
13 years in the development just waiting to get out. Now I'm happy on one acre. Had a good run on that farm, did what I set out to do.

Sure do wonder how those apple, pear, peach and cherry trees are doing. I left the sprayer with the farm, hoping buyer would use it.
You just have to spray there, even if using organic spray like neem oil. If you don't there are too many small mouths about. My old next door neighbor
who I keep in touch with says the place looks different now and the current owner isn't very friendly. My friend's 5 year old son is so well mannered and
always shakes my hand and says Hi Mr.Drew in a Southern boy's special twang. This the boy I took the monogrammed pencils to last visit.

I've earned a nap

36°F and clear skies this morning, and has gotten up to 62° so far. A very nice day here.

Made a run to Lowe's this morning to get some wood to build a speaker cabinet, and a couple other things for The Wife. Got to checkout and found there were no cashiers there, only the four self-checkout stations were open. There was a line wrapped well back past the regular lanes. By the time I got up to one, I found out why. The machines/computers weren't working right on three of the four stations. The one I went up to had a non-working handheld scanner, and trying to fit a piece of plywood across the scanner glass is a no-go. I finally asked a younger guy walking past if this thing is supposed to work. He checked it out and said it wasn't working right, told the employee monitoring the area, and walked away. That poor guy was having to check out everyone by himself. I saw a dozen or more other employees just milling around the store, leaving that one guy to do it all. What a terrible business model this has become.

Happy Birthday, Drew.

Good evening all and Happy Birthday Drew.
More family members with aligatoritus meant a quiet Sunday for us.
It gave me plenty of time to try and answer that question of how much a 20 ton pile of 14mm crushed gravel works out per rock.

First off I took random samples of rock from 3 different places on the pile. Each sample had exactly 100 rocks.
Sample 1 weighed 425 grams
Sample 2 358 grams
Sample 3 382 grams
[Sorry in advance to you QA pros - the kitchen scales have no calibration certificate and no doubt you would want a lot more samples]

Total sample weight 425 + 358 + 382 = 1165 grams
Average weight per rock = 1165 / 300 = 3.883 grams
Weight of pile = 20 tonne = 20,000,000 grams
Total rocks in the pile = 20000000 / 3.883 = approx 5.1 million rocks !
Price per rock = $1379 / 5.1 million = .027 cents per rock, which actually seems pretty good value

Anyone who has trouble getting to sleep at night is very welcome to check calculations and put me straight tomorrow :)

It’s evening but I’ll post anyway. Yesterday was 40 mm of rain which took all the snow. I got up and no snow. Wow.. I figured i would go and check my maple taps but then we had a blizzard.

Well here is my maple sap harvest.
