14 going to 39, another cold one, then nice for four days. Pretty moon but I missed getting a picture before it set.

15F going to 45. Nice "Ron" moon out early this morning, and setting now.

RS, too bad that microwave died since it was only 35+ years old! (y) You think your next one will last so long?

Mostly, I cut a double load yesterday, and my body is paying for it this morning. Worst thing...I drove the tractor across the bridge into the woods, got ready to cut and realized I had forgotten my safety glasses, so walked back up the hill to the shed. Then I ran out of gas, since I forgot that too...walked back again. My steel toe workboots are so much heavier than my hiking boots made the trip seem harder. But my chain stayed sharp and had a good day.

Don, good you can get the potatoes in. Our garden is a mess with a lot of leftover dried plants standing and the tomato cages and stakes in the ground. We'll do a big cleanup soon...we used to clean it up soon after the season, but read a wildlife article that talked about how beneficial leaving it in can be to the birds and rabbits.

good morning all
Brrrrrrr, lot of us are cold this morning
9 degrees here, going up to freezing in sunny weather, tomorrow temps rise to 50 and 64 on Thursday. That should sure melt all the snow.

headed off early to drop Genesis off at dealer to hopefully tell me why there's such a rear end whine in it.
I have the bumper to bumper extended warranty. Will be interesting to see if they try to categorize this as wear and tear.
if they can't diagnose and fix it, I'm selling the car. Fine around town but not going to listen to whine out on highway. Wish I had heard it
when I test drove the car. Smooth and quiet around town.

I sent a complaint into the CPSC when my one year old Toshiba microwave turntable plastic rollers caught on fire.
CPSC said they sent copy to Toshiba but since I did not show harm (fire in the microwave?) they were closing down their file. Really?
I wonder if Toshiba will ever contact me. It's an 9 dollar part on amazon, have been waiting to order to see if company does the right thing.

Morning all, 8 going up to 33, coldest day so far, to 60's later in the week.
Had day off yesterday so went and mapped out some of the trail I am building. about .8 miles so far with some small areas of overlap.

Check that is cold.
Roy - hope wife feels better today

Stay safe and be well,

One of the areas I cleared out in the back corner of my property.

Good Morning.
It’s 8 now with a high of 30 and bright sun today.

Yesterday’s trip went well, a bit of a delay getting started, and ATC routed us inland which besides being longer, put us at a worse angle into the strong winds from the west. In this picture the arrow points at the wind speed and direction. This picture was after we finally got a turn to the east direct to Vero Beach.

At the bottom of the display, you can also see that the static temp outside is -51c. (-40c = -40f). The return trip was over the Atlantic, and was 40 minutes faster. Didn’t get back early enough to do much else than spend some time with Emily, who is not doing so well.

Not sure what today will bring, I would like to exchange the gas cylinder from my MIG welder for a larger one, and a few other chores, and we have some hard choices to make about Emily.

Looking good Ken, I still owe you pictures

Daugen I saw the perfect car for you 2022 Mulsanne four door British Racing Green. Ride down the road in luxury and comfort no noises stylish to boot from here to Florida like you never left your living room

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 4:15AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 66F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
One tiny cloud dropped 0.01" of rain earlier this morning, with most of the moisture remaining off to the southeast and falling as snow in the mountains.

Good luck with the whine, Drew. Hope the dealer doesn't develop a selective sense of hearing.

No more tight valves after re-torquing the heads on the touring bike yesterday, so that job's done. It's been cranking slowly, so will load test the battery today and likely replace it with a spare.

The van is old enough this year, at 35, to be eligible for collector plates. Still need to do more reading to see if that makes a difference with regard to the engine swap, though. It was tough sledding grinding through three different sets of California law to figure that much out. I've got until September when the plates expire to figure out the rest.

So let me get this right. Your supposed to go get your phone. Take a picture of the fire. Take a chance on it spreading to the rest of the house?????

That is insane.

Your average person is gonna grab the fire extinguisher or some other alternative to mitigate damage to the rest of your home.

I'm partial to the unplug and chuck the appliance out the door myself.

At least thats what I did when the grandkid caught the toaster oven on fire

26°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 61° today. They say we may hit 65° tomorrow, but then the bottom falls out with rain turning to sleet turning to snow and 1-3" by the time it stops on Thursday.

Trip to Louisville today was delayed yesterday, possibly until late next week. I'm OK with that.

Had to change a light bulb in the upstairs bathroom yesterday. The one in the light/vent/heater flickered and went out while I was in the shower Sunday night. Turned out there was one of those curly compact fluorescent bulbs in there. Replaced it with an LED.

Stepson popped into the studio later to tell me that the valve to the toilet was leaking in the downstairs bathroom, and there was water all over the floor. He'd already put down towels to clean up the water. After checking, it wasn't the valve, but the connector at the bottom of the tank was a little loose. I got about a 1/4 turn before it was tight. No idea how that suddenly came loose, but something to keep an eye on.

Mostly_, Fin is decidedly not my favorite. In fact, on more than one occasion, he's narrowly avoided the walk to the back of the barn. Frankly, he's just downright mean, and picks on our much smaller (7 lb) female cat entirely too much, many times coming away with large amounts of her fur in his mouth. My Wife's interventions are the only reason he's still with us. I call him Butt-Head, but he has other more frequently used names not fit for this forum.

I feel your pain regarding wading through motor vehicle laws, RNG. Illinois is the same way. Even the simplest of things like light requirements seem like they deliberately wrote it to be as confusing as possible.

60°F and .01 inches rain.

A day to piddle about the caretaker unit cleaning up small tasks. Probably focus on the wire shelving.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

dftodd, it was a very good thing I was standing nearby. Heard this zorching, crackling sound, like electrical current grounding.
I looked in the microwave and saw sparks and a small flame and immediately opened the microwave door, stopping it and letting out some nasty
smelling smoke. No damage to the rest of the unit.
I sent them this pic, apparently they have seen much worse.

perhaps in order to file the proper notice I should have stuck my bare hand in and picked it up while smoking.... :sneaky:

Buppies, when I was little on the farm our family's NJ cousins would come for an annual or every other year picnic.
Then unfortunately there was a falling out in that side of the family and the picnics stopped. We were disappointed.
This was back in the early 60s and our cousins would arrive in a beautiful large Jaguar sedan, BRG, wire wheels and tan leather inside.
And oh the little walnut tray tables in the rear. We would sit in the back of the car and put those tables up and down.
My mom's Biscayne s/w sure didn't have those...

All that lovely wood. And the amazing smell of all that leather, leather everywhere. Probably Connolly hides.
I think the last Jag they had was a Vanden Plas, with those two inch thick mouton sheepskin floor mats, like Rolls and Bentley used.
The feel of taking off our shoes and running our bare feet in that super soft carpet.
I don't think my father even opted for any carpeting until the 70's when it probably became standard.
That's what a rubber mat was for, right?

I would be like a little boy of 8 in that Bentley Mulsanne.

I was prepping dinner one night. Started the oven to preheat. Went out in the garage for a few minutes to finish up a quick project.

Came back inside to the dog banging off the back door and it sounding like someone was welding in the kitchen

I bailed back out to the garage and shut the breaker down for the oven. There was no way I was gonna touch it with power going to it.

The electric heating element in the oven broke in half and was contacting the bottom of the oven.

Called the wife and had her pick up a pizza on her way home

welding sound, that's it.
Remember the sound when the Terminator arrives in all that electricity?
Bzzorch plus

I just read that again. Live electricity up against the frame of the oven, making it all live likely.
Genuine electrocution hazard.
Something about the design of that heating element is just wrong, shouldn't be allowed to come apart so easily and for sure
have a fail off mode.

Drew- glad your kitchen did not catch fire.

Dftodd- how poorly made that the element cracked like that?

Last time I saw a heating element break was due to age and impact. Seems like yours had neither, maybe a factory defect.

My grandfather had Jag mk7 with the burl wood tray tables and a silver tissue holder in the back.
He got rid of it as maintenance was so expensive.
Had two gas tanks and fillers. Fun English designs of the era.
Fun as a kid to have pretend classy picnics in the back.
Looked like this one, might even have been this color:

Good afternoon! 28° and sunny now. Was 5° when I woke up this morning. Supposed to be mid, upper 30's today, mid 50's tomorrow into Thursday, then rain and falling temperatures.

Finally got the IRS paperwork for the pension done. I redid it 3 times. Likely still not right but I gave up trying to make sense of it. I had other people look at it and they figure I was sorta close to right. It doesn't have to be that arcane......

Need to get into something useful this evening, not sure what yet

Anyone had any experience with an aftermarket canopy for their tractor? I finally have decided sitting in the sun mowing is getting old.

Everyone stay safe out there!

7° this morning, 33° now.
Frustrating night trying to get the new Dell computer to make sound. Did get an email back this morning with a long list of things to try. Most I have done, but they suggest an older version of the sound driver. Downloading at home was taking hours, downloaded all they want me to try in the office, took a few minutes.

MVA did extend the emissions test deadline for my truck and said no late fee. They ignored the part about refund of late fee on the Honda I did yesterday, so resent that request. Will probably do the truck soon regardless of extension, since it doesn’t extend the next test date, just means I’m testing in the middle of the 2 year window instead of at beginning, next test date stays the same.
