Again, I come back and a whole 'nuther round of drama. I got tangentially swept to the other thread...I agree with Don....cesspool.

We should be able to civilly talk about alligators, with personal experiences....and no drama.

Mostly, condolences and prayers for the family. Hope your sister gets well soon.

Too cold and bad road conditions to go into work today. 28F windy and wintry precipitation. Feeding the fireplace. It's hungry.

Got my freebie alligator testing devices yesterday.

Popgadget, great job on the welding table. That annular cutter magnetic drill is the shazbot nanu nanu.

Prayers my friend.

Hope you got things ironed out. You said it, "Times change".

Yes. and some reasonableness. remove the bad apples from the bushel.

Stopped at store at 7:50 AM yesterday. Had the place to myself along with the distributers.

I would believe that a tile roof has a 100 year life. Here in Texas (besides what Don wrote and scorpions), we have freedom. If you want to move a pile of dirt from one side of your property to the other....you can. Unless it might be the size of a lake.

Good post.

I took my kids to Whataburger and had a great breakfast with them this morning. (they were let out of school and the icing hadn't started).

What we need is a place to land together, if the worst happens.

Prayers for our team and our country.
Please don't bring up a closed topic in another thread.

20°F and snowing this morning, steadily dropping through the day into the teens overnight. It was down to 17° earlier, but warmed back up to 20° now. Snow has been falling (actually, blowing sideways) all day.

We've had an interesting time with this storm. Not the precipitation so much as the wind. Our power flickered quite a bit yesterday, then finally went out around 2:45pm. It was out until about 11:30-ish-pm when it came back on, only to go out again a little after 1:00am. It continued to come on for a few minutes and go back off again several times until sometime just after 5:00am when it came on and stayed on. Well, until about 12:30pm today, when it went off again. Came back on a little after 2:00pm, and has been on steady since then ... so far. Crazy. Reading the Facebook posts and constant updates from the electric company reveals just how crazy it's been for them. Multiple lines down all over the county (one on our road about 100ft from our driveway), wind causing "galloping" power lines that kept breaking, replaced cross supports and insulators were breaking within minutes of having just been replaced, ... the wind has not been our friend. We had about three inches of snow when I went out to feed the chickens this morning. Haven't been out since to see what's out there now.

This morning, I started thinking about RNG, and wondering why this only seems to be happening in our county. Are we getting some isolated storm that no one around us is getting? None of the adjacent counties are having these issues. The Quality Jerk in me has started pondering the potential root cause of all this. Is our county power co-op not adequately maintaining the equipment? It seems odd to me that this is only happening within the lines of Clinton County. Once we get through this mess, I will surely be asking these questions in a very public way.

It's also prompted The Wife and I to have the whole-house generator conversation again.

Condolences to you and your family for the loss of your BIL, Mostly_.
We used to have power outages regularly at our house.

Two tornados, 3 years apart forced the power company to upgrade poles, supports, and wires. They also did a mass campaign to trim back the trees along the power lines to cut down on limbs taking out the lines.

After the new infrastructure and tree trimming we only lost power a couple times. Both times were due to squirrels offing themselves and popping the fuse for a transformer.

PJ they close the plant down or you take vacation?
Yeah, the owner closed the place for a couple of days because of the weather. Not sure about tomorrow yet, but I'll probably just take a vacation day. Roads are pretty treacherous around here right now.
PJ as a guess Farmington, will have a different feel than Highland.
Oh, absolutely, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Highland is one of those places where you're either from there or you're not. I know a guy who moved there in his late teens, and even after living and working there for 60 years, is still considered an outsider. Just the way they are there. We're closer to Trenton, but do most of our shopping in Highland. I have relatives from Highland, so the attitude was no surprise to me when I moved out this way.
Farmington MO is not like that at all. I spent a lot of time playing music there (and other towns in that area) back in the '80s, and it's a very friendly area. In fact, our neighbors to the south recently moved to their other property near Farmington. So, we already know people down there. I remember noting back in the '80s when I drove down there all the time that the stretch of US-67 between Festus and Farmington likely had more Ford 8N tractors for sale on the side of the road than possibly any other stretch of road in America. Should I ever decide to buy one, I know where to go.

Toilet flushes, bathroom sink works, shower works/drains.
And the kitchen faucet should be here tomorrow. Caretaker progress.

And just like that it switched back over to snow (right after I last posted)

The radar on the 6 o’clock news was showing that Rich was probably still getting that mix though.

Woman made a pot of beef stew, was good but not the usual recipe.

Snowing here...just a dusting now, but looks like 14-16 inches by early morning. Wifey has to go get a booster shot at 0900, so I reckon early morning snow clearing is the plan.
Stepdaughter made chili...damn good. She cut a few peppers to give it a jolt, and a couple shots of whiskey (not in the chili!) while she was cooking

24˚F cloudy and no more precipitation this afternoon here. The new improved Texas electrical grid is holding. The maximum electrical use will come tomorrow morning at 9A.M. when a large area of Texas will be frigid, (19˚F here). In our electric area of 28,800 meters there are still no power outages.

Snow here has stopped. Forecast says we could get more between now and 9:00pm, but radar says otherwise. I think we may be done.

What will the naysayers have to gripe about if it holds up?
