Thursday Friday forecast keeps changing. Right now rain will stop before it gets cold enough to freeze. Last night they showed snow at the end. 1.5” of rain predicted.

BEF again the models do not know how to handle this event but the rain should not be caught by the cold front in your area

Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 4:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High around 60F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph.
Yesterday's wind advisory remains in effect, but I don't think we'll see the 35 MPH gusts again today. If Phil was to poke his head out around here, he'd see his shadow for sure. Hope he's right; we could sure use the rain.

So now we can add snow to the menu of Texan delights? I hope it's the kind that looks pretty for a a few hours and melts by noon, like it does around here. Does the wife's O2 generator have a car power adapter, Bird? That's good to know about the humidity, Don. I've been to Amarillo a few times in the summer, and the thunderstorms there were quite fierce, along with pretty high humidity, at least by west coast standards. But then I guess no place is perfect.

Those prices are similar to what I was seeing in the Salem/Portland corridor of Oregon when I went poking around last week, Mike. But the homes on them were all clapboard siding and in need of quite a bit of TLC. Hope the new arrangement at work works out.

The lady from State Farm called back yesterday and confirmed the quote was legit, but confessed their underwriters had yet to see it. A few other insurers followed up with denials, but have yet to hear back from a dozen or so inquiries.

Doctor's office called yesterday morning to reschedule the appointment to early March. I used the time to get the zebra bike out of mothballs and get my luggage packed. Then got one barrel and head back on the touring bike before finding the surface on one of the original cam followers was too pitted to use. So I'll run errands in town today and pick up another one that the dealer's parts kid said was in stock. Not sure what else I'll get into today.

Here it is Hump Day already!

Morning all, 24 going up to 44 and the fog is rolling in heavy right now.
They keep changing the forecast for TH/Fri from rain to snow and back.

Tonight is sons talent show, should be fun. Seems like a lot of competition.

NJ's Milltown Mel Dies Before Groundhog Day, Event Now Canceled

Not the best timing

I spend a lot of time on California- first for work in the 80s,90s,2000's and also my dad and uncle and my wifes cousins live there between San Diego, all the way up to LA. Probably spent 2-3 years of my life all over the West cost (minus Oregon for some reason, just never made it there) Wife wants to retire there, but.....

RNG - good luck with the insurance hope State Farm stands behind their quote

When I was a kid we used to go to NYC Chinatown a lot.
I had bright blond hair and the people there thought it was good luck to touch my hair and give me cookies and toys! When I was a kid Ctown was still all Chinese immigrants. Today it's mostly tourists and whoever can afford the apartments.

Good morning, low temp is 33 and the high? 30°F. Wind WSW 9 mph. Snow.
They are calling for an inch, but we will see.

I am up late this morning. Didn't get to bed until almost 1 AM.

A town run today and pick up the new fuel gauge sending unit for the tractor.

The North Bay trip was a piece of cake except for the ride back down here. It sure was windy. West wind blew me all over the highway at 65 mph, so I sped up to 75 and didn't notice it so much except for when I came out of the rock cuts. Cruise control all the way except for the one spot where the snow was drifting across the road for about 100'. Didn't bother to slow down, just kick the cruise off, then back on after the drift.

You guys that are getting a decent amount of snow, stay safe.

Good Morning.
It was 17 at 5:30 this morning when my DIL called me. She locked herself out with the dogs, my son is out of town, grandson was inside asleep in his crib. Fortunately I’m minutes away and had keys. Supposed to get above 40 with overcast skies once the fog lifts.

Highlight of yesterday was putting 20lbs of pork in the smoker. Local grocery had loins for .99 a pound, so wife brought home 2 10 pounders.

I’ve been very happy with this smoker, it will run for 24 hours on one load of lump charcoal, and maintains temperature within a few degrees. It’s well insulated, so ambient temperature doesn’t really matter.

Today I will get to the projects I had planned for yesterday if all goes well. I’ve got to go to the courthouse to pick up renewed LTC, and a few other chores before sitting in front of the computer doing government exercises.

Good morning! Happy ground hog day and six more weeks of winter! 51˚F partly cloudy light North wind the high will be 57˚F at 1pm then the cool down starts.
2" of snow and or ice is predicted for Thursday/Friday.
The news is again making it sound like a snow and ice armageddon. Schools and business are planning to shut down for Thursday and Friday and it is warned the roads will be like a bumper car ring without the bumpers. Grocery stores are flooded with people getting prepared. The governor has warned of possible electrical "Shedding", a new term meaning rolling blackouts. Our electrical line is underground so our immediate area will not be affected by downed limbs because of ice. Wind chill will be zero˚.
I made a trip to Mom's yesterday and got her ready. The HEB grocery stores parking lots in Taylor and Elgin were over filled. In Taylor all checkouts were open with lines into the aisles. Mom's county road was a muddy mess and I had to stop at the car wash close to Kyle and high-pressure the mud off the Ranger.

I'll head to the garden and get the beets, and move the outdoor citrus plants into the garage and then self PT this afternoon. I might go to the store later this afternoon to see if the shelves are empty.

I do not foresee this as bad as last year Don but I’m not a state or local employee or a meteorologist

That's a good way to think about it, Buppies.

I have hope for this new year, but past experience has taught me not to set my expectations very high at all...

Good morning to all! Low of 22, going up to only 28. Tonight's low will be -6°. Started snowing around 04:30, about 2" on the ground by 07:00. We are predicted to get 8-12". North of here, up to over 2 ft. They closed the schools yesterday afternoon before the first flakes were a couple states away!

Apparently this is a really big storm. Snow might spread as far south as El Paso! Also spread way east and up the coast.

I was able to get some shop time in, but didn't finish the project.... not yet anyway. Maybe today or tomorrow.

Today is trash day, I"ll venture out and haul the trash can out to the road, but I really don't think they are going to collect it today.... I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to be driving that heavy truck on snow packed roads. I imagine their liability insurance is sky high to begin with.

Speaking of insurance.... RNG, hope you are able to find some affordable coverage. My Aunt was telling us about their insurance fiasco yesterday.... Their insurance sent out a notice that if they didn't put a new roof on the house, the policy would be dropped. WHAT? Sure enough, if the roof is over 15 years old, they won't insure the house. A couple of their neighbors already had to replace their roofs? Is this legal? My Aunt said their first bid was $22K. They live in Alachua Fl.

Everyone take care, avoid the weather if possible, and have a great day!

That's the first I've heard of the insurance companies using an old roof as an excuse for declining coverage, Ted, but it makes perfect sense. Most roofing materials deteriorate with age. Then again, the roof here is concrete tile, and is fifteen years old, and now I wonder if that's yet another reason why I'm having so much trouble. Guess I should get out of here before the whole place comes tumbling down around my ears, huh?

That quote sounds ridiculously high. Hope your aunt can find something more reasonable. Maybe her neighbors have some ideas for her?

/ Good morning!!!! #145,134
When we were getting insurance on our new cottage here, and re-insuring the out buildings, our agent with State Farm kept asking what the roofing materials were on all the buildings..... when I told her 'metal', she said "oh--good". She didn't go into any explanation other than an all metal roof got us a discount.

Tile roofs last a long time... as long as nothing falls on them, or somebody doesn't know how to walk on them. I have never actually calculated out a square foot weight, but they have to be heavy for sure.... especially the "entire mass".

64°F and .03 inches rain.

Spent some time reading the 2 referenced threads. WOW. While I’m in the No camp, his site- his rules, I do think Mod transparency should be a part of that and Mod action without at least a simple explanation doesn’t help. I guess above is a violation. Oh well.

Off to Hilotown, Sophie has ophthalmologist follow up this morning. I need a few more plumbing fittings to install the water heater.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

BEF, I'd look further west and south of Culpeper. Land prices around my area are quadruple what they should be, IMHO. Houses, up there too. Yesterday I saw a 2000 sqft home, 12 acres, 600k.

Saw an interesting property yesterday in Rockbridge county. Has an old rundown house on it that needs a match. However, there is a nice stream between it and the road, so a substantial bridge would be needed. Looks like people drove thru creek, or parked on road side, it has a footbridge across the creek. 20 minutes outside of Lexington. Mostly wooded over 50 acres.

My house insurance just informed me that my (steel) roof is over 15 years old and they will reduce the replacement cost by 30% to start and then 2%/year after that against wind and hail damage. It is 30 years old, so I got it figured out that they (the insurance shysters) will reduce the coverage by 60%, pity they wont reduce my premium by 60%.:(

32°F and light sleet falling this morning, steadily dropping through the day to 20° over night. Supposed to change over to snow sometime after noon. Voice on the radio is sticking to his 12" snow prediction.

Barn door was frozen shut when I went out to feed the chickens, so I had to use the side entrance.

Nothing solid planned for today, other than waiting to see what we get for accumulation. Probably spend some time in the studio (where I am now). Power has been flickering here for awhile, and went out completely for about three seconds. Fortunately, my recording equipment is all on a UPS.
