Got to stay flexible

Nice drive to Waimea, but the ReStore wasn’t open. Sign on street said it was open, gate was open, but a rope across entry had a sign saying Closed Today Due to Covid.

Such a pretty day decided to drive back via the old Saddle Rd which goes between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, past the Army
Training area, PTA. Hadn’t taken that route in a few years. Pleasant drive. Stopped in the Hilo ReStore and picked up a mirror for caretaker bathroom. Knew they had it from visit last week. A quick stop at grocery store before heading home for late lunch and then Zoom Happy Hour. HH friends in Oregon decided to cancel their upcoming cruise. Being as both are in their 80s likely a good decision.
Cottage tenant had walk thru new house with contractor. List of 95 shortcomings would seem to delay their move until at least next week.

Good morning, low temp -29°F and high should be 12. Wind calm. Periods of light snow today and tonight. None so far.

I got up a few minutes ago to a nice warm house. The downstairs/basement wood furnace needed wood and so did the upstairs one. They are both cooking right along now.

While plowing yesterday I threw a front chain, it will stay off until I decide it is warm enough to put it back on.

Today is going to be an energy conservation day.

Hot coffee is going to taste good this morning. -1° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 23° with sun most of the day. Temperature will probably drop a few more degrees by sun up. Dr got me set up for blood draw. Fasted for 6 hours and got it done. Dr was off sick this week. Hope he is better for my appointment next week. Stoked neighbors branch pile fire. Nothing but ashes left. Not sure he got second pile started yesterday evening. Will check it out today. No other plans.

RNG, I use those gnarly pieces of firewood during the day if I am in the house and don't need to stack them inside the woodstove...keep a separate pile for them. But, due to your storage system, and need to keep combustibles away from your house, I understand your process.

Eric, I hope you and your family are doing well. I've learned more members of our family have tested positive...all double or triple vaxxed.

Worked 4 more hours clearing branches and lopping overhanging ones on the woods trail yesterday. I got it in shape to drive the tractor with chainsaw to the trees that will need to be cut to finish. I'm a little sore from bending over so many times, and reaching up high with the loppers, but with the ground frozen, I'm hoping to get out there for a while this morning, finish clearing the trail, and then cut down a dead tree for firewood to bring back to the splitter.

There are still 737 folks nearby without power due to the storm, and it is estimated to take until Thursday to restore some of them. Been planning a hike for Wednesday, now that Shenandoah NP is reopened, and looked on the VDOT website to see that the road I was planning to take was still closed from downed power lines...there are other routes I can take that are clear.

good morning all
going into the deep freeze for awhile, staying below 30 and mid teens at night.
Not like Bill's cold but cold for here.

landlord called last night and said she had an almost new fridge for me. Nice surprise. I think she is moving into a smaller home on her farm and she
probably wants a different fridge than what is there already. Would be nice to have a built in icemaker but that would hog up what limited freezer space I have.
So I'm headed over this morning to have coffee with her and check out this fridge. Mine works but she knows it's pretty beat up.

this afternoon I take my neighbor to doc appointment in Doylestown, will likely sit in car and read my Kindle. Waiting rooms don't seem like the safest places right now.

neck still not good this morning, going to have to call primary to get pain meds refilled, the tylenol/codeine lightweight stuff. At least this soft collar keeps me warmer
in these very cold days. Have to look for silver linings...

Little stick, branch pickup yesterday. Instead, rolled out the log splitter and made a few more piles.

Wife not too happy with the in-attention of the property with downed twigs, sticks, branches and trees where ever one looks.

I'll get around too it. Maybe today with the nice hard freeze. I can move about without fear of tracks and mud. LOL.

I missed the game, football for some odd reason, not missing it. Guess it is because my loser team has been so dreadful for the last two decades in all facets of the game, on and off the field, players and management. Once a storied franchise, now a dumpster fire, class D.

I certainly don’t hate Georgia, in fact it just reinforces the dominance of the SEC. Since 2006 The SEC has won 11, most of them by Alabama, the ACC has 3 and Ohio State got one.

Yesterday was a BJ’s run, cleaning and paperwork for the FAA. Last document came back with 27 “findings” in a 180 page document. All are simple corrections or adjustments.
Hauled some more grain to the barn.
Today starts with a zoom meeting in 10 minutes, so I’ve got to run.
