32° right now...high in the mid-30's. It was raining last night...I imagine there's some icy areas on the roads

Stepdaughter is feeling OK now...thanks for the comments
I'm trying to figure out a time I can take the truck in to have the snow tires mounted. You might recall, I'd planned to do this a week back, but plans go awry
Not sure if the stepdaughter works today, but it's probably too late to set up an appointment to get the tires mounted (today) anyway.
Still working from home...going good, for the most part. If time permits, and the snow is washed away or melted, I'd better get those driveway markers in...we're looking at snow moving in mid-week next

Coffee has finished brewing. 29° with light snow this morning. Heading to 39° with cloudy skies. Got 2 trees down and hauled over to chipper pile. Never made it out for grocery shopping. On today's list. Neighbors that have Covid walked over to my place to see what I was doing with tractor. Kept at least 20' distance. Good to see them getting better.
Posing for a winter weather picture.

Thomas, hope you get better soon.

Wngsprd, never had gout. From the sounds of it. I do not want to get it. Get better soon.

Don, just go get a new golf cart. You are going to need it. It's only "your" money. Lots of action at your place. Snakes, beans and nails.

Alien, great bird pictures. Barn looks good.

Buppies, good you are getting jobs done. Hope surgery on 1/7/22 goes good.

PJ, I got to do a couple of Military Ceremonies at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Very well done Ceremony.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

To get everybody into the Christmas Spirit, a lovely tale of Santa...

A Little Christmas Story............
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce
toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the
per-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which
stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were
about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out,
heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked,
the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot
of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk
all the cider and hidden the liquor...
Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the
door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big
Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa.
Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would
you like me to stick it?'
And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the
Christmas tree......

PJSprog said, "I've been to several military funerals, but they were always at a local cemetery. This was my first time at a national cemetery, and it was an experience I'll never forget."

I can sure understand that. I only visited the Arlington National Cemetery once, but I've attended several funerals of both friends and relatives at the DFW National Cemetery in the western edge of Dallas, and they are quite respectful and impressive.
I should have mentioned yesterday that one of the last times I visited the DFW National Cemetery was for the funeral of "Jinman" (Jim Inman) who of course was a regular poster and great friend to many on Tractorbynet.

good morning all
warmish 45 out now, not going up much all day in sun

nice visit with MIL, we potted the amaryllis bulb I got her and set it on a window sill.
She remarked it has been close to 20 years where I've given her an amaryllis each year and she gets to watch
it grow for several months. When you are 94 and moving slow, that's plenty of excitement for her.

6000 miles is amazing Mostly. That's almost driving across the country and back again. You really must be in great shape.

Don, sorry about nail, that should be easy to fix. Are you still pleased with your Ranger?

Alien, I send your bird pics to my sister who loves to see them. As she says, I'm a sap for animals.
I think most of us are too.

off to lunch today with old friend from high school, he has a home in Florida now also so I don't get to see that much of him.
His son is the guy who helps me on all my build it projects I can't do anymore. Kind of sad that Father, who got me into boating on the Chesapeake,
was all set to put a nice small boat on his lift in Florida, and he got some neurological disease in his legs where he loses, sometimes, the ability to walk
and keep his leg straight. You can drive a boat sitting down, but you sure have to be agile to get on and off safely. Lot of folks get hurt then and my friend's wife
knows it. They have boats with side doors now, but it's still a risky idea for him. So he has two nice jetskis on his lift. My back won't allow riding them so no boating
for either of us. Maybe this winter when I go visit him we can rent a boat for the day and I'll captain.

we are headed to Costco which is near my friend's office, to get me signed up and get info on hearing aids. My friend expects me to find a light where I can floor this
600hp car and in respect for my pristine driver's license, I will do so carefully... Frankly those summer tires felt a little greasy yesterday, even with awd. They really don't like the
cold. Today is warm enough though.

Toppop, hope you are doing ok and not too chopped up. Sounds like you'll be pretty sore this morning.

hope you all have a great day. Keep distancing yourself and don't get sick.

Yep, I remember Jim...tragic accident, IIRC

I can just hear the rustle of Bird's old ticket book, as he pulls out the ticket writing pen.
C'mon Boy, light 'er up.
Stand on the brakes, floor the pedal, and do a big burney drift in a full circle for your admiring friends.
And then you are mine... ka ching ka ching

we are never too old to be stupid.
So we need to be careful.

47 going to 64.

Mostly, congrats on the 6K...hoping you can break your record.

Don, good job on catching the rattler. Are you taking it out to the country to free it? Hard to tell from that photo, but maybe not enough tread left on that tire to repair it?

Split firewood yesterday, and then changed the oil. Based on the way the engine is mounted on the splitter, it is hard to get to the plug, and then messy draining the oil. I had made a note to myself in the manual about the best way to go about it after experiencing the mess last time...only problem was I forgot to get the manual and discover the nice note until after I finished and was updating it with the new oil date. 🤯

Jim was a good friend. He passed from Cancer. Mike was the one who had the tragic accident. May they both RIP.
You're right!!
My apologies

45 outside, heading to upper 50's. Nice.

Ugh...what crazy past few days. So my buddy was a no-show at the splitter duty and that was OK. Seems the plumbing developed a gurgle when the washer was going. Thought the sink might be blocked...so out came the snake. Weird stuff going on, so out came the phone and the plumber shows up. Out come more snakes. Now we are snaking and running water but no joy on half the plumbing. So the team splits and some watch the clean outs while others snake. Still no joy on half the plumbing. The only happy time for some people when they don't see a snake. Yeah, not the same type of snake.

Yeah...that new septic system, major miss on connecting some pipes to it. So under the house I go. You do know it is over 100 years old right? I had to break out renovation pics from 15 years ago to track pipes. Unfortunate, some pics are indeed under construction. I hear water plumbing in a wall, but I don't see the plumbing in the pic. Bad timing.

Back under the house I go. Now into the real old part. Ugh... the kitchen... the last hold out of the 20 year renovation project. I still have a few years left....obviously.

Well, some bright smart person, not me, said they ran all new pipes during the last renovation. Yeah, and attached two bathrooms and the kitchen sink to to old cast iron pipes right in a corner of the old kitchen foundation. Ugh....I eyeball the direction, get some measurements and outside I go.

Yep, I find the kitchen pipe three feet away from the bathroom pipe on the outside of the foundation (now both are pvc) and then they join together some two feet later. Into more cast iron. Yikes.

We call the septic guys for backup, since they missed this too when they were flush testing. They will be out in a few hours to correct it all. Means more digging and splicing. I should just break it up under the house and run one pipe to the new stuff. But I can do that when I remodel the kitchen. Hah!

During all this, I managed to make it into the city and do some work for a partner who has decided to retire. The boss has made a few calls my direction and is working on getting additional help into his customers. The city was quiet, nice decorations are up, lots of businesses still closed. Covid and security protocols are still high.

I returned home late last night exhausted, and in a few hours it all starts up again. Need to drain the pool, another friend coming over to help close that up for the season. With the weather, I should chance it and just leave it open. It looks nice. Even relaxing by it though is hard to find the time.

Hope all have a good weekend. Get healthy for those ailing and be safe.

I have three close family friends buried at Arlington. And a coworker buried at Culpeper.
They are never far from my thoughts.

Good morning, low 8 and going to 14°F. Wind NW 7 mph. Sunny!

While I was Northwest last summer I saw a bunch of those cranes on the ditch side of the road. Trouble is, I don't remember exactly where I saw them.

I have 2 vehicles that I drive regularly and don't put 6,000 miles on either of them in the course of a year. Riding a bike for 6 grand a year is impressive.

Speakiing of lighting up tires, I did that in Oshawa, ON one hot day and didn't realize there was a cop on the other side of the intersection. Yup he came after me and nabbed me. My arguement (the only time I ever argued with a cop) was that the vehicle was NOT doing over 30 mph. He said that the tires sure were, oh but the vehicle was not. He told me that he had to charge me with something, so I suggested excessive smoke and he went for it. Ticket cost me $28.oo and I went to the court house and paid it as soon as he cut me loose. Ticket never did show up on my license record. That was about 30 or so years ago. I was old enough to know better, and young enough to be able to do it. The Chevy had the horsepower as well. The two s-boxes I have now will hardly spin the tires on snow let alone bare dry pavement.

Not much on my plate for today, so I think I will conserve energy.

Have a safe day all

Good Morning
It’s 39 and only going up about 4or 5 degrees today with clear skies.

Yesterday was a putter around day that didn’t get much accomplished. Tried to change voltage regulator on little airplane, but it’s mounted to the firewall with faster with nuts in the cockpit, so I need someone to crawl up under the panel and hold the nuts, so that was the end for that project until I get a helper.
More luck with helping wife wife set up for craft show. It’s in a beautifully restored 250 year old barn that is now an event venue. All I can say is there must be a lot of money in “events”!

Drew, what happened at Home Depot?

Today I’m off to Vero Beach again, hopefully get to get her with the band tonight.

Paul, the guy read my letter to Rubbermaid describing what had occurred and agreed with me totally
I should get my money back. But....they are going to send a truck out to pick up the old shed.
It is in 50 pieces, no longer on a skid, just don't know how they are going to do that and I don't see much
responsibility on my part to assist them with 400 pounds of plastic parts. They will call me Monday to set up a pick up date.
Will sure have a long conversation with the expediter but at least Customer Service did their job. I was in and out in fifteen minutes.
They said they would credit my credit card when they picked up the "item". This should get very interesting...

So I guess I have to dig out the base we installed for it; I guess they want their floor back too. I'm going to get a bigger shed that will hold the mower
with the bagger attached, say an 8x10 instead of a 7x7 now. All that work on that picture frame foundation I built for it likely wasted, though maybe I can just extend what I have.
