37°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 72° today. This is going to be one of those nice days I wish I would have taken off work to enjoy.

Wife and I stayed up way too late last night. She had a late training in St. Charles MO (60 miles one way), and I was working in the studio until she got home. Then, we stayed up even later talking a bit. Hit the snooze button a couple extra times this morning. Going to make for a long afternoon.

Kyle, my Father died in '89, and was buried in a little country cemetery. When my Mother died in '11, she wanted to be cremated. The cemetery care taker was going to charge us for a full opening just to bury her urn. When my uncle, who grew up with him, questioned the fee, he told him no one was going to care if we did it ourselves. Since I was the only able-bodied adult at the time, I was handed the shovel ... and I got to bury my Mother. As strange as it was at first, looking back, I think everyone should have the honor of doing this. I've never been to a more intimate funeral/burial.

I can't talk to my ex-wife, Drew. We're no longer married for a reason, and she hasn't changed a bit in the intervening 31 years since our divorce. I actually tried to be open to the idea a few years ago, and accepted her friendship request on Facebook. It didn't take long to realize that was a mistake. I have no contact with her at all, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

There is a store a few miles east of us on I-70 that sells mostly Native American made products. The Wife (the good one) and I used to go there around this time every year and buy a bunch of hand-made blankets to donate to a homeless shelter in our hometown. We haven't done that for awhile, and should probably get back to doing that. It's not an easy task to find stuff made on this continent these days. Americans' tastes have shifted from quality to price point. I remember when Walmart used to advertise that they carried American-made products whenever possible. Good luck finding anything American made in there now.

You bring up a good point about dog food, Doug. One of the training certificates my Wife got a few years ago was in pet nutrition. Of all the training material she has, that course had the most, filling a 3" ring binder. She was amazed to find out what goes into most dog food, even (and especially) the popular big names. Most seem to have grains and sugar as their primary ingredients. Treats are even worse, especially with high sugar content. It's not easy to find the right combination of healthy food that your dog(s) will eat.

Good morning to all! Low was a balmy 42, going up to the low 60's. Unfortunately, a cold front approaching and crossing over today causing 45 mph winds. Tomorrow's temps only low 50's and dropping to 23 tomorrow night.

Paul, with all the advertisements for "specialty" dog food, it is no wonder how big an industry packaged dog food is. We call it 'poison in a bag'. We lost 2 of our fuzzy friends from the Menu dog food poisoning escapade back in the 90's. We have been making our own dog food since. The wifey actually tastes it during the cooking process...... mmmm, mmm, good!

OH NO! I see pics of snow..... no, no, it's too soon! What happened to summer and fall? For some reason, time has gotten faster and I have gotten slower.....

Don, the kale chips look tasty! Maybe a new business venture? You could undercut the competition and sell for $30/lb. Cha-Ching!

David, hope the services go well. Expenses can get astronomical quickly!
Wifey and i both agree that getting cremated is right for us....want our ashes spread over the northern Rockies.

Today's agenda involves changing the oil in the car and the truck. Picked up the oil at Costco last week, the filters were acquired yesterday, so no excuse now. The truck is relatively easy, the car not so much.... a small 6x6" access cover is all the space given to get a filter wrench on and take out the filter.... I would have a serious conversation with the engineer that designed that!

Oh, forgot to mention.... we had some action in our small town Sunday night.... Walmart was attacked by arson, 4 fires were set simultaneously in different areas of the store! The flames were 75-100' shooting above the roof. Fire depts from 4 different counties responded. They are not sure if there were multiple arsonist who started it.

The store is now closed indefinitely, major smoke and water damage. I feel sorry for the employees that are now out of work. They were a major employer in this rural area. Hopefully they can catch the culprit/s.

If there continues to be more fires in the area you might have a serial arsonist out there but if there are no more fires an disgruntled employee or past employee may be the suspect. Cha-Ching! Still takes too long to prepare 5 trays to go into the dehydrator - 7 minutes a tray to lay out the chips - 35 minutes and then 25 minutes to make and mix the coating, ingredients cost $10, that would be $20 an hour if they weigh a pound after dehydration. I'll check the weight when I bag them.

We had a serial arsonist here, got caught trying to light a local night club on fire, were some staff still in the building.
Luckily someone figured it out and the LEOs took her away.
She may have burned three "not in use" houses too.
All the fires stopped when she went away.

My dad died in 1964 and was buried near Elizabeth City, NC. Mom passed last February she wanted to be cremated and her ashes buried or spread with my dad. We own plots there and my grandfather is buried there as well. So we took the ashes down and buried some in her plot between dad and grandpa and spread the rest on the site. After 57 years they’re back together.

53 now, low was 30, a little breezy but bright sunshine. Tomorrow is supposed to be 68, then 72, then 49. Can you say roller coaster?
I haven’t hit a lick at a snake this morning, the afternoon is shaping up to be just as productive.
I’m planning a nice long golf cart ride with my doggie to a nice little fishing pond tomorrow or Friday and hope at least the catfish are still active. I’m just going to take my cane pole, or maybe my one small Zebco and some earthworms and dough balls and maybe a rubber minnow just in case there’s a bass lurking.

Not sure what else to say about HP printers, except that I've wasted hours on their tech support line keeping one working, finally giving up and replacing it with a Canon all in one.

CalFire continues to track down and prosecute hundreds of arsonists each year. Mind boggling the damage they've done, in spite of all the fire safe efforts and tens of thousands of first responders. There is no punishment too severe for fire bugs..

Summer is alive and well at the Salton Sea, Ted. And it's not that long of a drive for you and yours if you're not quite ready for winter.

Awoke at home this morning to the sight of tule fog filling the canyon. It was sunny yesterday morning in Paso Robles, CA, but very brisk for the ride north. We took back roads through the coastal mountains for the first hundred or so miles, enjoying some nice views, but the bumps and pot holes; not so much.

The farther north we got, the cooler the temps dropped, and in the last fifty miles we were riding in heavy fog again. We briefly broke through as we climbed the last bit of road up the mountain, but then dropped back down into it before we got to the driveway. Visibility was maybe ten feet for that last quarter mile. And while my friend packed this morning, it came back, so he's going to have slow going on his way home. The recent rains have made fog an issue; three of the six days saw good doses of it, and without a fairing, it made for some chilly motorcycling. The discomfort was worth it, as temps during the day at Salton Sea were in the low 90s.

The Rendezvous was well attended, and as usual, we had a great time. The Salton Sea is a short trip for most Airhead members in the Los Angeles area, and after being couped up for so long, quite a few came out to join the fun.

Saturday found me with a couple buddies touring the sculptures at Bombay Beach, something I'd heard about many times but had yet to explore. Apparently there are some people there with a LOT of time on their hands, and ingenious ways to use it.

May not be on much for a while. Lots of disruption here. Kitchen getting pulled out today. Builder and electrician here for that work then tiling the whole house. Kitchen wall drywall repairs, etc etc. Other builders doing the barn as well.

Now if I could get Sassy to work with me. She will not eat the latest food I bought her. Not going to eat anything that has gravy on the label.

So we just have a 9 lb chihuahua, and so I try to buy her good food since she eats so little. I had previously purchased Rachel Ray's food and she tolerated it. But I bought some Blue Buffalo food, and she does not like it. It has a peculiar odor.


I did not have a tractor for the 1st wife....not sure it would have made a difference.

Re-married in 2001, bought tractor in 2002. I believe having the good Lord in the middle of my marriage, makes the difference for me.....oh, and to keep my mouth shut most of the time.

37F and "Fair" @ 19:45, headed up to 41F by midnight and will be up to around 50F by 07:00 tomorrow. Wednesday's high is forecast to be 66F.

Hopper feeder filled yesterday, it and the two sunflower tube feeders will be due to filled again tomorrow.

Blew the leaves on the west side down around the house off with the Cub, mostly oak leaves at this point. Also got about 80% of the lower front cut today and the leaves ground up. Will finish that tomorrow. Same deal there: mostly oak leaves. Quit around sundown.

Tomorrow will be mostly spent doing the last little bit of outside prep for winter: a few hoses to gather up and put away, a little leaf blowing, 4 plants to get in the ground, clear some stuff out of the shop so I can get the Kubota in to work on it.

Long day

Another tail light out, so stole one from a door that’s same bulb. Last time I took the cargo light. Ordered more bulbs.

Wife made stir fry for supper, the sauce was pretty strong, salty. Been drinking lots of water since.

Neighbors kittens, going on young cats like to come over. One very friendly, just runs right in. other a little timid, but comes in if hungry.

Slow start, bike ride, got golf cart back from shop, discovered one of the weather seal held in by Velcro was not sticking, they are coming back tomorrow to fix it. Did get nap in. Gopher has not reacted to my digging.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 43° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 59° with chance of rain in afternoon. Got gardens around house cleaned up. Used lawn mower to blow leaves into field and woods. Used leaf blower to clean out areas around building. No need for neighbor to come over with trac-Vac. Tree came down along west tree line. Need to cleanup branches and other stuff after one of my neighbors hauled away the trunk. Also have some shrubs to pull out along fence line that I took fence down on. That should be enough to do before it rains.
I think Sassy and I have come to an agreement on what she will eat. Like Kyle's little dog it's hard to find good food she will eat. I buy some canned wet food for her morning meal. It has to be kept in fridge after it is opened. It is good for about 4 days. But she doesn't like it cold. So I have been looking for smaller packing. With not much luck. So I am back to the same she has been eating for last 6 months. Pedigree Chopped Ground Wet Dinner. She does not like the expensive stuff I have bought her. If you think our food has gone up in price. Dog food has done the same. Maybe more.
Deer has it winter colors.
